Private Schools 7 - Public Schools 1. That’s a wrap!

It is not a huge surprise that the first competitive game of the championship round was between two CCL/ESCC teams. It seems the only teams that can stand up to Catholic football teams***, are other Catholic football teams (and sometimes East St. Louis).

Congratulations to both teams. It was a great game between two excellent teams. A big, big effort by the players.

Kudos to the camara crews as well. Wonderful replays, particularly on the touchdown catch for Joliet Catholic's third touchdown.

***Within assigned class levels.

What If? East St Louis vs Althoff

They have played in the past correct or no? I believe Althoff has played ESL Assumption & ESL Lincoln I’m sure
Never have they played.

In 1990, when we could not find a week 9 and ESL was slated against Collinsville, there was discussion of a game because we were evenly matched. (MOST OTHER YEARS, FLYERS ROLL BIG TIME!)

It came down to where the game would be played. Shannon told Schoot, "Our old bus would not make it up the hill." Schott claimed the same. Then both old men chuckled and wished each other luck for the state series.

Teams who knocked out MC in the playoffs

With all the traditional complaints that Public and Private should be separate, here is a look at who knocked MC out of the playoffs since 1986, which was Coach Lenti's first State Championship game.

1986- Wheaton North in the Championship

1987- East St. Louis- semifinal

1988-1991 MC State Champs

1992- JCA semifinals

1993- De La Salle

1994- Rita

1995- Maine South in the Championship

1996- State Champions

1997- Rock Island

1998-2000- State Champions

2001- Hinsdale South (no misprint South not Central) 2nd round

2002- State Champions

2003- Glenbard South 1st round (not a misprint, South, not North)

2004- Providence semifinals

2005- Prospect in Championship game

2006- WWS in Championship game

2007- Glenbard North in Semifinals

2008- Hinsdale Central semifinal

2009- Loyola

2010- Maine South in Championship

2011- Bolingbrook in 2nd round

2012-13- Won State

2014- Providence

2015- Glenbard West

2016- Didn't make the playoffs 😮

2017- Lake Zurich semifinal

2018- St. Charles North- Semifinal

2019- State Champions

2020- FU Covid

2021- Br. Rice quarters **BR lost to Wheaton North in the Semi and then Wheaton North beat Rita in the State Championship, minimal complaints that year of the Public/Private**

2022-2023- State Champs

So 15 Public Schools, 7 Private have knocked out the Caravan. So over double the amount. It can done, it has been done numerous times and it may be done today, gotta play the game. And the games that the Public Schools beat MC were some outstanding games! While I'm at the point where I wouldn't complain with there was a Public/Private split and I wouldn't vote for it, it's taking away some great possibilities of great future football games. Change the seedings based on strength of schedule and you will see some great finals!!
This is funny! Good stuff. Thanks for the research.
