What's Your Favorite Summer Vacation Spot??

It is impossible for me to say what place is best. My spouse, I and my kids have been fortunate to see a lot. Vacations are a personal taste. I don't mind making long drives and have driven to California more than once. Took the truck and drove out to the Bad Lands, Yellowstone and Glacier Mountain a few years ago. But, we have jumped on a plane to go places and across the pond a few times as well. Going to Iceland later this year to see the Northern Lights.

When my spouse and I retire in a few years we are getting a smaller RV and hitting the road. We don't believe in going on vacation to sit around. Hell, we can do that here. So, we hike, fish and do whatever the location calls for. And by the way Zip-Lining is f-ing great. We did that in Gatlinburg a few years ago and it was awesome. They had 7 lines and at least one was a quarter mile long and about 500 feet up. Also did some white water rafting there and in Wyoming. However, taking a day and sitting on the beach is not out of order.

I got the worst sunburn of my life in Tahoe - fell asleep on a hammock.

It was VERY SOOTHING to jump into the lake, if even for a few moments. But there is LEGIT SHRINKAGE if you swim in Tahoe's melted mountain water.
Been to Reno and Tahoe three times. What people from here don't realize is how intense the summer sun is out there because you have relatively no humidity. And the need to hydrate is real as well.

Yes, the water in Lake Tahoe is cold. That lake is 1500 feet deep and it is filled with melted snow, hence the clear water. I went there once at the end of June. It was 91 degrees on the beach but the water was 51 degrees. I have never been a person who "tests" the water before jumping in. I run and take a dive every time when first going in. But that water temp will take your breath away. I wouldn't recommend a heart patient doing that! The contrast will definitely wake you up. But it was still a rush.

Lake Tahoe? No I never left the city of Reno. I'm not much of a sightseer or skier, but Lake Tahoe would have been a better trip than Reno.

I'm not sure what you meant there, and not because you used "persona non grata". :)
For me, I am not a gambler so Vegas doesn't interest me. But I do like Reno. There is a lot to do if you are an active person and Tahoe is only about 45 minutes away and is a must. I can't speak about the casinos because the only one I ever went in was in the hotel. It is all personal taste.

If you like zip lines I would highly recommend Superfly Ziplines in Windsor Canada.
One line is about 2/3 of a mile long, another 650 feet high between two mountains, plus speeds of over 60 miles per hour.
It’s a great time.

I was wrong about the zip lines in Gatlinburg. One is a half mile long. I think you get up to about 45 or 50. It is a blast. If you look down you can see old stills.

The zip lines in Puerto Vallarta were pretty cool. You
Zip line over the area where they shot the movie Predator. Then a nice place to grab a bite to eat.

LOL! "Predator" has to be the best, worst movie I ever saw! Hilarious.

Corey, my spouse really didn't want to zip line. Poor girl was scared to death, but overcame that fear. My fear is riding horses. Never have. But, I made a promise to her that I would since she did that. The opportunity hasn't presented itself yet and she loves horses. So, I will keep my promise and I know the day will come.

Horses are not to bad. I have rode horses a few times and unless you act crazy they will just follow the pack. I don’t like heights but the Zip lines were cool. White water rafting is fun.

What do you like to do there?

What's your best memories there?

Northwoods of Wisconsin, specifically the lakes and rivers near Park Falls/Fifield/Phillips. Go before the skeeters and flies are too bad.

Enjoy fishing with the menfolk of my extended family. Been doing it for decades. Too many best memories to pick just one.

That looks like a ball.
I'm scared to death of heights ... but I tried to push through with my girls. I got through the first two runs ... wanted to abandon. Not possible, had to do one more to be able to walk back - the big, long scary one. They tethered me to a young woman who "brought me across."

As my girls were on the far platform, the group of strangers started asking, "Should we applaud for him?"

My girls correctly suggested they not do that ... or even look at me. "Just ignore him ... you can talk to him at the bar later if you want."

So are you saying you won't be jumping out of a plane with me anytime soon?? They do give you a parachute. And 12,000 feet isn't all that high. ;)

No flipping way!
LMAO!! The way to overcome fear is to just do it. I am not saying I don't get nervous right before it happens. I do. But you just trust the process and do it. When you are in the plane it it almost like it isn't real until you get in line to jump. It becomes real when you see the guy before you disappear as he jumps.

When I was a kid I used to fear roller coasters. Then one day when I was about 15, my family took us to an amusement park. I was scared, but I just got on one, took the ride and when it ended I asked myself what I was afraid of. Never had the problem since.

My dream as a little kid was to be an Air Force pilot. I had so many toy planes when I was little. Then I needed glasses in 8th grade. One of my Uncles who was in WWII told me I could't do it because my sight wasn't perfect and that dream went away. I still don't know if that was true, but I thought it made sense. So, I let that go.

However, I always wanted to own and fly a private plane. I have been up in several. When I was dating my future spouse she said it was fine, but there was no way I was getting her up there. I remember one time she said, "it is fine as long as you end up on the ground" and before I let her finish the sentence I said, "oh, I'll end up on the ground one way or another." I laughed as I said that. She didn't think it was very funny.

But, I understand your fear. My older brother is very afraid of heights. So much so, I flew with him on his first flight over 30 years ago. He hasn't gone up since and refuses to do so.

Afraid of heights is a weird thing. I have no problem flying, zip lining, parachute behind a boat. I freak out going up to the edge of a cliff, high building like Sears Tower. Something about falling off the edge freaks me out. Lol

Like that tilting thing at The Hancock. No way.

Yes Corey. Falling off the edge could present a problem. :):)

Wassup:

I have a deep affection for the Mayfair and South Kensington sections of London, Locarno and Chamonix in Switzerland, Hallstatt, Austria, and Florence, Italy.

The memories are too infinite to expound over in detail.

If one will allow me, I would recommend a journey to Chamonix. It rests at the base of Mont Blanc; it is surrounded by lush forests; it boasts magnificent views of the Alps; and is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited.
