Chicago (Ill.) St. Rita (4-1) 2022 three star ranked offensive tackle recruit Valen Erickson (6-foot-6, 280 pounds) has been making several unofficial and official visits this summer. Erickson at one point this summer seemed to be on the verge of a college decision, including taking his lone official visit to Nebraska. So what's the latest with Erickson and his recruiting these days?
"I'm not in any rush to make a college decision," Erickson said. "I took one official visit to Nebraska which was great. I've also made unofficial visits this summer to Illinois, Missouri, Cincinnati and also Tennessee. I'm going to just slow things down for now and I'll get back to taking more official visits this fall."
Erickson admitted that he considered making an early verbal commitment this summer, but then as more school became involved in his recruiting the process started to become more complicated.
"I spoke with a lot of the schools who have offered me already and they have told me they wouldn't push me for an early decision and that they would wait for me to decide. I just feel that I need to be patient and things seemed it was starting to go really fast with my recruiting. The last thing I wanted to do was rush a decision then have regrets later."
Erickson also has a short list of schools that he's focusing in on hard this summer.
"Nebraska is right at the top of my list right now along with Missouri, Louisville and also Illinois. Ohio State has been reaching out more and my guy Kaleb (Brown) has been talking me up to the Ohio State coaches quite a bit. I'm pretty much done making visits this summer, but I might go out to Ohio State for a personal workout in July."
Erickson is also locked in with his team in camp this summer.
"We are lifting now as a team and working out on our own as well. WE really get going with our team staff now and then after the 4th of July."
My Take on Valen Erickson's Recruiting: Erickson sure seemed to be getting close to a decision this summer and I was expecting him to be done by now. However, more and more schools have gotten involved with him and I can also see even more schools taking a second look at him early this fall.....and I will NOT be saying that for too many other recruits in the 2022 class under the current recruiting climate with such a small amount of offers available. A month ago I would say it was Nebraska was the top team to beat for Erickson, yet now while they are still a top favorite....I don't get that same feeling at this point for Erickson. Stay tuned and more and more schools will also get involved here.
