No talk of the Prep Bowl as of yet

The CPS strike could add an interesting twist to the teams who are eligible for the Prep Bowl from the Public League.

Phillips and Simeon in the CPS finals... if the strike ends. But the teachers will run out on money sooner or later. In the mean time Hammond Casino is making a killing.

Might make it good again. Championship was brutal to watch last year. Not just because it was at the unfriendly confines known as Gately. But Taft was so over watched, felt bad after awhile.

I assume that the CCL starts the playoffs regardless of labor strife on the other side?

Are the former ESCC schools eligible for the Prep Bowl? They were in the previous edition of the combined leagues

That's right. Might make it more interesting. I'd think yes. But teams aren't practicing today then I doubt they're playing.
If you win two IHSA playoff games your out of the Prep Bowl Playoffs.
Think the kids already voted no anyways.

You think?

Now anything can change but as of last week I got the scoop from a 17 yr old that got a vote in the matter.
I don’t believe it. It doesn’t make sense. I can see to get up for the upcoming game, (because you go into the prep bowl playoffs if you lose your first round or second round state game) a senior or coach saying “Do you want to go to the Prep Bowl?” And the whole team going “No”
I cannot picture Coach Kuska sitting the players down and saying “ok team, if we lose this week or next week, do you want to accept a spot in the prep bowl playoffs”.

My money is on you misunderstood your son.

My guy can be shady sometimes, haha.
These kids fought last year to play in the prep bowl when some adults didn't want to be bothered . Coach Kuska is a big believer in this. I hope they miss it because they are still playing. I'm taking the caps off the above post. Texting in the car never works well for me.

Yes, maybe talk among seniors, they dont want to go since they won it last year. Last year was fine to finish after a very rough season.
But it is different going in after losing in state. After the cluster **** loss in Rockford few years ago, they weren't in it mentally when they played carmel in the prep bowl.
In approximately an hour and half I will interrogate him to find out.

Just tell him to win the next two weeks and concentrate on GBS and not worry about Mom or Dads internet posts and disagreements

Maybe that's it too, they're thinking **** the prep bowl. For I know could have been 2am talk in someone's basement after the ND win.

Especially with the possibility of Simeon and Phillips in the mix.

13 out of the 24 CCL/ESCC schools have committed to the Prep Bowl. If teams lose first round they are back in. D vs. Leo and Carmel vs. St Pats are first two games. CCL/ESCC will host Prep Bowl Championship

Any chance you could list those 13 schools?

Yes I stand corrected as I mistakened my son for my ex and paid no attention details.
It was senior talk as they won it last year they aren't real interested. Lot of that is just being young and not realizing in 30 years you'd love to play one more game even if it's in the prep bowl against Taft again.

Thanks for the info.

Depends on year. Sometime winning one gets you removed depending on amount of teams left. They no longer do wed games to accommodate everyone.

Any of the catholic schools in serious trouble week 1 and likely in the prep bowl mix?
Hope all win but usually doesnt work out that way.

And why can they not get a better championship venue? St, Xavier, U of C. Anything to add to it.

I love the St Pats and Carmel's getting in.

I find it ludicrous that Brother Rice again elected to not play in the Prep Bowl.

I like the lose week one only teams. Hopefully the CPS has the same policy.

Proud of these teams keeping a special tradition going, getting all their players extra reps and fighting to finish their seasons with a W!
I remember CPS used to play a bunch of games in multiple weeks.Julian once ended up with 17 games. For the most part playing the Catholic League you better be ready but I’m sure they were worn out.Saturday game for many.Wens playoff game.lose.Then Prep playoff Saturday Win there and some years play the following Wens then Saturday again

MC will always play in it. Extra Football and to some 8th grader seeing them hoist a trophy Thanksgiving Weekend can make a big impression.

That being said though, as a fan, I’m losing interest in the game, and I always liked the Prep Bowl. The benefit and reward for these players was the game was played at Soldiers Field which was something the players loved. Now it’s at Gately....Rita/Taft was a running clock after the first quarter last year...I saw MC play Curie a couple years ago and it was similar. I wish they could at least play at Soldiers again...

Not playing in the prep bowl in 2017 had no impact on Rice in 2018.

You love to make opinions sound like facts. Their great BR soph QB would benefit with more reps if they were to lose first round this year. The prep bowl benefitted the young SR team this year. Two frosh started in the prep bowl. Now they had varsity tape sooner rather than later. And football is a funny game, you’ll never know when an opportunity presents itself; extending the season presents more of those opportunities and 7th and 8th grade parents understand that even if you don’t.

Maybe Bean’s backup could’ve received more reps in 2017 that could have helped them in the state championship game. We will never know.
