IHSA approves all but two of the rescheduled CPS football games

The strike may also cost Simeon a playoff spot. They currently sit at 5-1 with a sure win coming up putting them at 6-1. However if the strike lasts beyond Wednesday of next week the CPS schools will not be able to play week 9. This would leave Simeon with only 7 games played with 8 being the minimum allowed to become playoff eligible.

That would be pretty awful. What exactly happened week 2 that they didn’t have a game?

There is a zero percent chance IHSA would not waive that rule.

I agree, they would absolutely waive that rule. The spot that gets tricky is if CPS is still on strike on selection Saturday. What do they do then?

They go in the bracket as if they are playing and if they can’t play the bracketed opponent gets a forfeit win.

why should they, how does a week team game get botched like that? apparently the Baltimore team scheduled the game for Simeon week one, Simeon thought it was week 2, they likely had to drop the week 1 opponent to accommodate the Baltimore team

Because it changes the entire field. The next team up probably isn't in the same class, it changes seeds and everything.
Or come the Friday night of week 9 if the strike is still going then they leave them out. It's a no win situation. Either the CPS schools get screwed or the last few teams get left out while teams get round 1 byes

This could be a huge mess. You have CPS teams from 1A to 8A.So if they are on strike when the playoff pairings come out do you add them? If so and they end up forfeiting you will make many schools who could have been added mad.But then if you replace CPS and the strike ends to where they can play that creates another mess. And it’s also unfair to teams who are practicing for one opponent and have to play another let alone reworking all the brackets

1987 was easier.Only Lane Tech made it because the other schools didn’t play enough games.Lane who honestly had a real chance of winning state had played a lot of games in a short time and as a result were beat up and burned out and still almost beat Mt Carmel in round 1.They also lost 2 studs beforehand to injury by pushing the team too hard and they crashed and burned in the CPS Prep Bowl playoffs.I also recall one of the schools would only play Lane if Lane played their JV team vs Farragut Varsity.Lane barely won vs I think it was Farragut

It’s not a tough decision. The “back up” teams that you could add didn’t earn their way in, they have no beef. It’s better to bracket the teams that qualified and if they can’t play so be it. If you don’t bracket them and they could have played that would be the bigger travesty.

The ihsa can have it set up both ways to have the cpl included or not. It will really only effect some 5&4 teams that will or won't make it. The seeding and class you play in? Those are really not for sure till after all the games are played anyway. So if it works out that you are playing a tougher team earlier then so be it. You would probably play them in the next round anyways.
