And ICE has 5 likely playoff teams...

Coal City 54, Reed Custer 6

Wilmington 24, Peotone 0

Lisle 55, Streator 14

Manteno 46, Herscher 7

Bottom of the conference really bad this year, were any of the bottom 3 competitive in any games against the other 5 this year???

Strange doings affecting ICE...

Genoa Kingston beat Stillman Valley...lose a 4A unbeaten

Canton lost to Metamora... Canton misses playoffs

1A Aurora Christian beat 4A Wheaton Academy,

3-4 Chicago Phoenix gets auto bid @ 536 enrollment

Chicago Urban Prep Bronzeville 4-5 auto bid 681 enrollment

I think Streator gave Wilmington a decent game which surprised me but no not really. Herscher and RC will be improved over the next few years

Those definitely improved the Coalers projected draw

Herscher opens up with Watseka and Central the next two years.. Central will be a top 2A team again next year, then probably down to a game Herscher should win most years.. not sure about Watseka.. but need to get back to where they can beat 1 or 2 of Lisle, Manteno and Peotone most years..

I am all for keeping traditional rivalries. Herscher, Central & Momence have been in conferences together on & off for 80 years. Watseka's not that tight of a history in football...Hunting wins is okay, but does a big 3A Tiger squad really need to play a Warrior squad on the 1A/2A border?

And in college updates, Manteno alum QB Gavin Zimbelman continues his assault on the record books. He earned his third NACC Offensive Player of the week award this weekend for Aurora University, going 23-34 for 327 yards and 7 TDs. He also had 7 carries for 61 yards. He broke the NACC record for TD passes in a season with 40 in 7 games, breaking the conference season record of 34. Its the fourth 7 td game of the season. He also has set the school season records for passing yards 2362 & completions 177, and career records of passing yards 5235, attempts 689, completions 417 and td passes 59. He's leading the country in total offense per game 374.1 td passes, points responsible for, third in passing yardage & passing ypg.

This year Herscher enrollment is 504, Watseka is 310 according to ISBE..

Is that a whole lot different than Manteno (660) playing 5 teams with an enrollment of below 510????

Tigers didn't seem to complain much when they were the 600+ student school in the RVC, with nobody else over 400...picking on Donovan, Grant Park, Sheldon, etc. Remember Manteno was well under 400 students when they started football.

At least every school in the ICE is a 2A school for basketball & volleyball except for Streator...

What were our options back then???? We looked into the I-8 numerous times and Coal City was always a roadblock... So we went local for non-football, football went to the SPC and then Corn Belt..
