ESL plays the schedule they do because it’s hard to get games locally. Had it not been for Mt Carmel and Loyola the last 2 years stepping up would have been another out of town game. Here’s a thought…why doesn’t ESTL go independent in football? Would allow them to have a dynamite regular season schedule and then play where they belong for the playoffs.
Only option I could come up with that could get them to 8a.ESL plays the schedule they do because it’s hard to get games locally. Had it not been for Mt Carmel and Loyola the last 2 years stepping up would have been another out of town game.
would conference kick them out if they pulled football, just something I thought about.Only option I could come up with that could get them to 8a.
That is one of the valid questions. Other sports at ESL aren't so successful that it would warrant being kicked out in all other sports just to benefit one program.would conference kick them out if they pulled football, just something I thought about.
I would think their conference would welcome this with open arms.would conference kick them out if they pulled football, just something I thought about.
It seems to me they only care about getting their ass kicked in the playoffs by ESL not the regular season.I would think their conference would welcome this with open arms.
Prior to GC and Collinsville leaving the swc scheduling two open dates were challenging some years. Now they have 4 open dates. 2 years ago they only played 8 games because a local team (De Smet) bailed on them right before the season to play another swc team. Here’s a thought…why doesn’t ESTL go independent in football? Would allow them to have a dynamite regular season schedule and then play where they belong for the playoffs.
Idk if thats really the issue. The conf currently has 6 teams. If they drop to 5 they lose some of those auto bids to playoffs. They did allow Collinsville to drop out of football and stay in everything else.would conference kick them out if they pulled football, just something I thought about.
Sounds like leverageIf they drop to 5 they lose some of those auto bids to playoffs.
No one really has leverage by threatening to leave/kick someone out. The conf is left with 5 members. No auto bids for champs and the remaining 5 schools have 1 additional week to fill. ESL then has 9 open dates to fill there football schedule.Sounds like leverage
No leverage. If ESL wasn't a a founding member the conference would have kicked ESL out a long time ago. That being said, the minute ESL leaves, several schools would line up to join the conference making it bigger and stronger. You have to know and understand the dynamics of the metro east. Yes, the conference allowed Collinsville to remove football however, ESL currently don't participate in ALL sports. Collinsville leaving for football is equivalent to ESL not having a soccer team. The bottom line is that the rule helps the conference and has zero negative affect. In their eyes everything is working well.Sounds like leverage
