The CS8 went 2-1 in Week 2 of the playoffs, with SHG and Rochester winning and Springfield losing. There will be two home Saturday afternoon contests in Week 3.

Breese Central (10-1) vs SHG (10-1)
Breese Central beat 2019 4A finalist Murphysboro last week. Their lone loss was in Week 2 to Breese Mater DeI, who is in the 2A quarterfinals. They beat Columbia 20-0 in Week 8, while SHG beat them 49-13 in Week 1 of the playoffs. The Breese QB has thrown for about 1,600 yards, and three players, including the QB, have run for about 600 yards each. SHG has only given up more than 13 points once. They have a very balanced running and passing attack. QB Ty Lott is a threat to run and has at least 5 talented receiving options. Like Columbia and Bethalto, Breese will try to grind out drives and keep the SHG offense on the sidelines. I think the outcome will be similar to the first two weeks of the playoffs. SHG 46 Breese Central 14

Freeburg (9-2) vs Rochester (10-1)
Freeburg came from behind in the 4th quarter last week to beat Carterville. Freeburg‘s two losses were both by less than 7 points, to Chester in Week 3 and Breese Central in Week 4. The Freeburg QB has thrown for almost 1,500 yards, and they have 2 RB’s both with 700-800 yards rushing. The Rochester offense was very efficient last week against Paris, scoring each time they had the ball in the first half and getting the running clock started. QB Hank Beatty has thrown for 21 TD’s and run for 20 TD’s. Derek has rotated 4-5 RB’s pretty effectively all season. The 1st string defense has only given up one TD in the first two weeks of the playoffs. Expect a solid performance by the Rockets at home. Rochester 50 Freeburg 17

All..... Cyclones over Breese 55-14. First seven (when the game was already over) for the Cougars multiple questionable calls by the stripes. Terrible. The last seven I believe but could be wrong (I was sitting in a heated tent after the first half lol with a soda ) a pick six by a Shg qb that decide up 55-7 to throw the ball.

Once again the injury bug hits the Cyclones. As the Rocket scouts noticed this game. Another Cyclone stud injured. Will he be available? Haven't a clue. Amazing what the coaching staff has done with this Cyclone team that has never been at full strength before the season and it continues. Massive personnel injuries, no size, extremely young overall and yet the team is in the semi's.

Rocket game is not nearly over but the match is already set I hear. SHG @ Rochester Friday 6pm. Ratsy

SHG 55 Breese Central 14
SHG came out strong and led 48-7 at halftime. Running clock for the entire second half. Left for the Rochester game late in the 2nd quarter, but it seemed like SHG scored at will and Breese struggled to sustain drives. Leonard Bowl 2021 Part II next Friday at 6 pm at Rochester.

Rochester 57 Freeburg 28
Give credit to Freeburg. They fell behind 13-0 early in the first quarter but did not deviate from their ball control offensive plan. Freeburg completed short passes to multiple receivers consistently for most of the game and had a little success running as well. They led 14-13 after one quarter. Several of the Freeburg drives lasted 6-7 minutes, and they converted multiple 4th down chances. Their offense ran the play clock down to 5 or less throughout the game.

Rochester’s offense was solid, with Hank Beatty throwing 3 TD’s and running for one and Christian Crevistion running for 3 scores. The defense was only so so, lacking intensity at times and too often not being able to get off the field. One of Freeburg’s scores was the fault of the Rocket kickoff team, which fumbled around the 10 yard line and gave them a very short field. The fumble recovery also got the fairly large Freeburg crowd back in the game. If Rochester has a bad stretch for as long as they did in the first half next week, SHG will take advantage and have a great chance to win.
