Coal City, since giving up 21 points to Morris week 1, has pitched five shutouts and given up only 21 more points all season (7 to Herscher, 14 to Plano)...Do the Coalers have the best defense out there...Anybody with a better scoring defense?

Is East in there if they didn’t play 2nd & 3rd string more than the starters?
Not that it's their fault, but they also have only beaten one team with a winning record. Then they played Oswego and gave up 32.

Do they play their starters all game? These stats don’t me squat because teams that give non starters playing time are willing to give up points due to blow outs.
They don’t play starters the whole game - did mainly in two during that stretch but that’s about it

They got some play makers on all levels but especially in that secondary.
Generally speaking, but I've seen some terrible defenses win high school championships too. A really good offense makes up for a lacking defense. Some years teams give up 5+ scores in the championship game and still win.
Apparently you never watched Peroria play in 2016, they were embarrassingly bad on the defensive side of the ball.
Watching the 2011 5A championship between Montini and JCA might make you change your mind about that idea.
