Hilltopper Fans!

All.... Game time has been set for Saturday 2PM. Tailgating is encouraged. (at least by me)☺️ Next to the stadium (west side) is a large tree lined grass area where all the fun occurs. Grills, flags pop up tents the works are usually all over that. Before entering this area is small asphalt lot where one can park a rv. They prefer those not on the grass. An entrance is also quite close where you can purchase tickets and get into the stadium

The only possible hitch on all of this is this land is owned by the diocese. The field was torn up last year during the season (rain and ruts) even though they don't use it much. Seeded the grass and it's nice. No rain on Friday but at the moment it looks like morning and afternoon precip for Saturday. I think for this game they will need the area because of limited parking . But if the word comes down it can't be used the secondary tailgate site is directly behind the baseball field next to SHG's main parking lot west campus. Not as "fun" but it is what it is. It will kind of be a wait and see thing as they say. I will try to stay on top of it.

Anyway for you tailgaters and even those that don't many just park on the grass stop by for a meet and greet if you would like. I'm easy to find in the corner (of course!) with the SHG flag flying high.

Lastly adequate seating for visiting team fans shouldn't be a problem. A bit over 2000 and berm seating on grass adjacent to the stands on both sides of the field and beyond the end zone. Field specs actually have the stadium 4600 in seating and another 2000 in standing room only. I have never seen a crowd like that. With possible rain one shouldn't have to arrive early to get a good seat. Safe travels for those making the trip. Ratsy

Feeto's Friday Upset Special.....

Playoffs are here!!! Lots of people confuse a lower seed beating a higher seed as an upset....... Well that's often not the case. If it were, I'd take 19 seed Mount Carmel every week from here on out. Upsets are based on team quality wins or losses. They're based on Edgy and Newspaper rankings. They're based on Gambletron spreads. So, for this week's upset I'm going with the 6-3 unranked, 23 seeded T-bolts of Andrew over the 8-1 #18 ranked and 10 seeded Vikings of Fremd. I think this one comes down to regular season games vs quality opponents, and Andrew has that advantage. Their 3 losses all came vs high quality opponents from their own conference. I like what I'm seeing from the T-bolts offense putting up close to 40 per game. I'll take Andrew tonight out in Palatine. Final score...... Andrew T-bolts 34 - Fremd Vikings 28. That's this week's upset. What are your thoughts and who is your upset?

A favorite time of year...Proposed IHSA By-Law Amendments are live

Got some interesting ones as usual...reducing summer contact days, lot of residency ones, transfers, classification, contest limitations for football. Worth a read, can see who submitted what. Meetings start soon....

ICE Playoffs Round 1 and Outlook

3A
#15 Stillman Valley (5-4) @ #2 Wilmington (9-0) - Rematch of the '03 Snow Bowl in Champaign. First time they have met since then too. I do not think Stillman will poise too much of a challenge. Cats should get some reps in but still be rested for round 2. Wilmo by 3 scores.

#10 Peotone (6-3) @ #7 Eureka (8-1) - Peotone just didn't impress me much this year. They lost to Wilma and CC which was to be expected, but I am not so sure that the Manteno loss is a good look for them. Peotone also hasn't beat anybody of note. Eureka only lost once, but I'm not convinced they played the toughest of schedules either. I think It'll be a close game, but Peotone won't be able to hold it together for the win. Eureka by 10.

4A
#10 Johnsburg (6-3) @ #7 Coal City (7-2) - Johnsburg doesn't appear to have any notable wins with the exception of Richmond-Burton. They also lost to a few teams that they probably should have beaten. Coal City looked tough against Wilmo and I think they have enough to carry them to a win. CC by 14

#10 Normal University (7-2) @ #7 Manteno (7-2) - I think Manteno was a fluke that came out hot, but got beat bad by CC and Wilmo. U-High beat Chatam and barely lost to Rochester and Bloomington. I don't think Manteno can hang. Normal by 3 scores.

Wilmington has a pretty decent draw to face up with Byron/Montini in the Semis, but like someone said in another thread they are going to have to play tough. Some of the tougher 3a teams won't let them get by with making mistakes.

Peotone even if they do upset Eureka would be done in Round 2 when they face Wilmo.

Coal City should meet up with Dixon in the quarters. I think their season ends there.

I don't know much about the teams in Manteno's quad, however I don't see them making a big run.

To any Amundsen fans who may be lurking….

1) Thank you for making the trip to Geneva. I used to live a few blocks from Jorndt Field (beautiful place to watch a game BTW) and watched many games there….Amundsen, Taft, Juarez, Roosevelt, Mather, etc. The trip to Geneva is a complete pain in ass so hope you were able to find a food place to your liking in town before making the trip back.

2) The couple of fans I spoke with were about as cool as can be. Talked about my time in Andersonville/West Ridge ….. a lot of nice memories were shared.

3) Amundsen played HARD. The final score did not indicate it but your boys played their asses off, start to finish.

4) Class team and class fans all around.

Red Bud Smoked by Johnson City

Two TDs called back, three interceptions - two in the endzone - and many flags, including three in a row, doomed the Musketeers against the top-ranked 2A foe.

The Indian's double wing was a problem too.

“You don’t see many offenses like that any more,” Musketeers coach Dave Lucht bluntly said. “They do a lot of cut-blocking and it’s hard to simulate because you don’t want to get guys injured in practice. I thought we did a good job in the first quarter but when you’ve got nine guys going both ways, you get fatigued.
