MMXXIV Edition - CCL-ESCC Predictions Week X

Welcome to the Playoffs! Congrats to @3OrangeWhips on his stunning, masterful performance this past season. Going 6 of 10 and 5 of 11 the final two weeks, yet still winning the regular season crown. I bet he drives on E until he gets to Indiana.
The reward for the Belleville East Lancers after a 71-0 beatdown of Granite City is a five-and-a-half hour trip to Wilmette on a Friday. Road gets a bit steeper.
Question for quidnuncs: Wasn't Harlem HS in Loves Park at one time? I recall "Loves Park Harlem" making a run in the baseball playoffs years ago.

WB6 Week 11 Playoff preview

Moline @ Quincy: Played week 4 to the tune of a 43-21 Quincy win. But sucky that two of the three remaining WB6 teams play each other round 2, but tis the way of things. Last time these two teams played, it was in Moline. Now, Quincy gets to host. Always harder to play a team the second time around in a season. Moline needs to get a few stops on defense early and the offense needs to hold on to the ball for some long grinding drives. The less time Quincy’s offense can put their flying circus on the field, the more chance for the Maroons. For Quincy, the defense needs to play tough in the trenches against Moline’s ground and pound and get the ball in their offense’s hands as often as possible. Quincy’s offense can not come out sluggish like it did last week. I think Moline can play Quincy tighter this time around, but Quincy still has too much firepower to overcome.

Prediction: Quincy by 2 touchdowns

Geneseo @ Depaul Prep: After railroading through the number 1 seed (yeah, yeah, I know), Geneseo gets a much sterner test against Depaul. Depaul overwhelmed Chicago Dyett 48-8 last week. Depaul looks like they are a fast, athletic spread team with a quarterback who can both sling the rock and take off and beat you with his legs. Their only big loss of the season was to Loyola, but other than that, their other two losses were close affairs (including a 41-38 tilt against St. Francis). Geneseo has not handled athletic teams very well this year and will need to rely on their ground game to limit the amount of game time their defense spends running after athletes. Still a very winnable game for the Leafs.

Prediction: Depaul by a touchdown

CPL Pick 'em CPL PLAYOFF EDITION #1

It's the CPL Playoffs! Yes, I know there are a number of CPL teams still alive in the IHSAA playoffs, but if you want to know about them, head on over to the countless other threads where the discussion centers around how awful the CPL is, and how unfair it is that they even get spots in the state playoffs at all. Meanwhile, we are over here in the thick of playing for the CPL title! On to the picks!

Kenwood vs Simeon
Obviously, the main story here is the Kenwood coach jumped ship and is now the head coach at Simeon. As it happens in the CPL, when a great coach leaves, good programs have a tendency to get average - or worse - pretty quickly. Kenwood hasn't been the Kenwood of the past few years, but they still have some players from those teams that will bring a bit of a chip to the party. At 11 am on Saturday, the only party I want to be a part of is the dudes in the north end zone at Gately getting those coolers out and those smokers fired up!
Rib Tips!

Payton vs Lincoln Park
When these teams take the field at Gately Saturday afternoon, the party should really be kicking in the north end zone! Gately dogs on the south end, rib tips on the north. That is a true CPL taste bonanza! Speaking of taste bonanzas, a few buddies and I found ourselves at Declan's a couple blocks north of Payton earlier this year. They have these Cincinnati hot dogs, served with a bunch of shredded cheese and onions. Of course, we sampled some. Then sampled some more. On the way to one of their apartments, we were walking down Wells past Payton when the stomach of one of my buddies decided the 3rd Cincy hot dog wasn't going to have a long stay in his body. My buddy valiantly attempted to puke in one of the trash cans by the Payton main entrance, but bumped his head as he was trying to get is face close to the can. He fell on the ground, and puked all over himself and the entrance. Quite a sight. I'd post a pic here if it wouldn't incriminate him....
Glizzys!

Amundsen vs Taft
This one is the disappointments of all disappointments. It's not a Winnemac Park, so no Lululemon wearing pumpkin spice sippers. It's not at Taft, so no early nights at the HarHig with loose pocketed ex-Taft coaches buying rounds... Nope, this one is at Lane on Friday...at 6! Come on man! At least it gets me to Pete's Place across from Horner Park sooner... Gotta get on those dart boards early!
Bullseye!!

Pretty rare feat I would guess

School district with 3 high schools… Lincoln-Way Central West and East all being football powers at same time. Plus the Catholic school in community, Providence, is a traditional power.
I mean Maine south is awesome in fb but Maine west is a product of a horrible conference and East is what it is.
Elgin, Larkin Streamwood, South Elgin and I think Bartlett are same school district and are nothing special in fb. Plus the Catholic school St. Edward is no Providence.
The suburban schools all in same district like palatine and fremd etc. can’t compare to 210.
Just feels truly amazing that all three public schools are legit in football at same time.
Rockford has bunch of public schools and they are not fb powers
Cary-Grove, Prairie Ridge, crystal lake south and crystal lake central are never all very good at same time.
Hampshire , Jacobs and Dundee-crown are not on football map as a district.
I can’t think of any school district that can match what 210 is currently doing.

WB6 Week 10 Playoff recap

Geneseo 42 @ Chicago Sullivan 0: Another year, another CPL team going undefeated and getting the number 1 seed only to get waxed by a WB6 team (Sterling did it to Payton last year). The Leaf’s defense did not allow Sullivan to get anything going at all and created a lot of short fields for the offense to run around and mostly through. It was 28-0 at the end of the 1st quarter and that was pretty much that.

Addison Trail 13 @ Moline 38: Moline took the opening kick off and hammered it’s way down the field, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Addison Trail would be able to move the ball in the 1st half but after the half, it was pretty much shut down. Moline did a very good job of controlling the ball on offense and creating negative plays or turn overs on defense.

Argo 7 @ Quincy 49: Quincy started out slow on offense, not really getting going until the 2nd quarter. Quincy’s defense came ready from the get go, forcing multiple negative plays and several bad punts which gave the offense good field position. Once the offense got going, it was lights out as Quincy went into the half up 35-0 and launched the running clock soon after the start of the 2nd half.

Sterling 18 @ St. Francis 42: Watching St. Francis’ starters operate against Sterling was like watching a D3 college team play a high school team. Interestingly, the running clock was never launched in this one as the halftime score was 42-3 and St. Francis put mostly 2nd stringers in for the whole second half. I figure that worked for both sides as Sterling got to have some success and both teams got to get their young players more game time.
