NFHS Streaming

As we start to enter the post season and more streams flip to NFHS Streaming due to their arrangement with the IHSA, please let me know of specific issues with NFHS streams. The more details you can provide, such as who was playing, when in the game the issue started, and what the issue was, I can help to get them resolved going forward. You can post them here or DM privately if you'd rather.

I don't work for them, but I do have contacts there that are well placed and very responsive to reported issues.

Best IHSA offense of all time from 7A/8A ?

The thread "what did we learn week 8" has had some great posts regarding small school offenses of the past. Caused me to look up the all time IHSA team offensive records - link. All the records are held by schools from 6A and under.

So.....what is the best offense of all time from the 7A/8A schools?

Fun fact...most yards in a game was by Chicago Hope (870 yards) in 2016. Too bad they gave up 807 yards and lost 91-70 :oops:

Argo 17, TF South 14

Argo (5-4) kept its hopes for back-to-back state playoff berths for the first time in school history alive as it rallied from a 14-0 deficit. Javoris Cotton (15 carries, 75 yards) scored on runs of 4 and 2 yards while Kacper Lobas kicked a 22-yard field goal with 2:59 to play for the winning points. Steve Holmes (26 carries, 152 yards) also chipped in for Argo. Seneca Smith (18 carries, 65 yards) tallied twice on runs of 4 and 10 yards for TF South (3-6).

CPL Pick 'Em Last week before the playoffs!!

Week 9? Damn, One week from the CPL Playoffs! On to the picks!

Schurz vs Orr
It Shurzly doesn't matter how many Orrs your boat has! I have no idea where this game is, but I hope it is at Schurz on that 80 yard triangle field next to the school. That would be a real home field advantage. Orr (see what I did there?) it could be at Orr on a real field, with stands, but pockmarked with giant divots from fireworks shows...another solid home field advantage...
Row the Boat!!

Kennedy vs Senn
Look, as long as I can post there is only one pick in any game Senn plays....
DAWGZ!!!!!!!

Dunbar vs Marine

A former CPS coach I know went to some sort of CPL coach meeting at Dunbar. Someone broke into his car and stole his cigarettes. Left his computer bag. Stole his extra packs of cigarettes. He's telling this story, and I'm telling him how lucky he was to have nothing of real value stolen... He looks at me dead in the face and says, "I can replace a computer, I NEEDED those darts after a CPL coach meeting!"
Mightymen!

Amundsen vs Lane

The battle of two teams that want to be in the suburbs so bad... But at the end of the day, you're playing in a stadium with no lights at 3:30 on a Thursday, or you kick off in a stadium with no working bathrooms...
Tie

Noble Johnson vs CVS

Noble Johnson or not, the Cavaliers are having a resurgence with the all the Butkus energy. No way I pick against that.
Butkus High!

SWSB talk

This seems to be the most competitive start for this conference in a long time.
LWE, Lockport & Bradley all 3-0
Bolingbrook, Andrew, HF & Sandburg all 2-1

This week we will start to see who are the contenders and who are the pretenders.

LWE has a tough game at home this week with the high scoring Bradley. Question is will the East defense be able to slow down Bradley explosive offense?

Lots of rumblings.....

Regarding several schools being incredibly banged up and many of which hail from the CCL/ESCC smaller enrollment schools. While you won;'t see any forfeits yet....you very well could see much different starting lineups etc. ,Seems like the schedule is starting to take a toll on many of the mid to smaller enrollment programs and that was always a big concern of mine with the new CCL?ESCC alignment. I've spoken to a few different coaches who have already said other schools are already looking at alternatives to this current alignment.

PSA: Loyola-MC on-site parking

Unless you get there at least 3-4 hours early, there probably won't be any parking on-site due to multiple other athletic events at the school and not that much parking to begin with.

In fact, even if you are attending the sophomore game, starting at 10:30AM, the school is advising to use the satellite lots at New Trier West and take a shuttle. (or a nice 20 minute walk). Depending on attendance, not sure the plan is that lot fills up.

Whatever you do, don't park in the neighborhood around the school. You will be ticketed and potentially towed. Loyola and neighbors in by fight right now over Loyola's plan to add lights to their stadium.

ICE week 9

Here we are last week of the season. Pretty easy to predict. Not much drama left unless we are banking on 4-5 teams getting into the playoffs (which ICE teams wouldn't based on playoff points).

Lisle (1-7) @ Reed-Custer (3-5) - What I initially believed to be a huge playoff implication game, is now irrelevant. Both teams playing for pride here. I don't think RC is good, but they are better than awful, which is what Lisle is. RC 35 - Lisle 21

Coal City (6-2) @ Manteno (4-4) - Default GOTW, but it won't be close. Wilmo trounced the 'Teno, and I expect CC to do the same. I guess the panthers might be motivated to get a playoff chance of they win, but it won't be enough. Loughran's boys know they need this win to get a slightly better seed in the playoffs. CC 28 - Manteno 7

Peotone (5-3) @ Herscher (2-6) - Peotone needs this one as well. Thankfully Herscher won't give them much of a challenge. Peotone secures a berth this week, but it's drama free and an easy win. Tone 35 - Herscher 14

Wilmington (7-1) @ Streator (2-6) - No contest here. Just a tune up for the Cats before playoffs. Wilmo 49 - Streator 12

What did we learn week 8!?!?!

And we are down to 1. One week to go. Been a fun ride to this point.

1 - That Mother Nature is unbeaten, untied, and untested.
2 -That the reported demise of HF has been greatly exaggerated - at least for this week.
3 - That Barrington putting a 50 burger in Palatine should require immediate attention.
4 - That a 4-5 team may make the playoffs and possibly win a game.
5 - That there is downstage chaos and we like it.
6 - That all is not sterling in Sterling.
7 - That it was the 1950s the last time Maine West was this good.
8 - That DePaul Prep is a nice story and could end with a playoff game.
9 - That the season should end with dynamite games and LA-MC, Morris-Sycamore and Naz-SF are what we hoped for.
10 - That I promise to let Catch 22 be catch 22 again and forever.

That’s all. Bring on week 9.

SouthWest Prairie 2024

Now that the season is over, let's discuss.

Whos the frontrunner in the West: Oswego, Plainfield N, Minooka?

Does Joliet West build on their breakthrough season?

Can Plainfield East take the next step?

I'm trying to get a hold of this SPC thing. Is there anything I need to know like places with regular tremendous home cooking? Concession stands to check out?

If the PLAYOFFS started today.... (Week 9)

Every Monday(-ish), I bracket the 256 playoff teams using the IHSA Playoff Outlook. This is NOT a prediction. These are NOT my opinions. It is simply the most logical way the playoffs would be bracketed, using the IHSA's specific system, if today's standings were the final standings.

Each week I usually have to add/subtract teams to get a true 256. The Outlook doesn't adjust for a conference champion/representative falling below the cutoff. It also rewards forfeit victories before the week that match-up would've been played. I take care of that before proceeding.

The cutoff on the Playoff Outlook is 4-4 with 36 playoff points. 14 teams have that record. 11 of those teams are in the playoffs, and 3 are out. The next tie-breaker used was wins by defeated opponents. Here is the sliver of difference between these teams:
Team 246 - Bremen in 6A --- 4-4/36/17
Team 247 - Oregon in 3A ---4-4/36/13
Team 248 - Tuscola in 1A --- 4-4/36/11
Team 249 - Nokomis in 1A --- 4-4/36/10
Team 250 - Piasa Southwestern in 2A --- 4-4/36/9
Team 251 - Crystal Lake Central in 6A --- 4-4/36/8
Team 252 - Fithian Oakwood in 2A --- 4-4/36/7
Team 253 - West Chicago in 7A --- 4-4/36/7
Team 254 - Rockford Lutheran in 1A --- 4-4/36/6 with 5 opponents in the playoffs
Team 255 - Genoa-Kingston in 3A --- 4-4/36/6 with 5 opponents in the playoffs
Team 256 - Bartlett in 8A --- 4-4/36/6 with 4 opponents in the playoffs, playoff opponents win total is 24 ---- LAST TEAM IN
Team 257 - Burlington Central in 5A --- 4-4/36/6 with 4 opponents in the playoffs, playoff opponents win total is 23 ---- FIRST TEAM OUT
Team 258 - Argenta-Oreana in 1A --- 4-4/36/6 with 3 opponents in the playoffs
Team 259 - Clifton Central in 1A --- 4-4/36/6 with 3 opponents in the playoffs

***** NOTE ***** The list above is what how I think the IHSA broke it down on this particular Outlook, from 8:30 AM Sunday. I think the 4-4 opponents threw off the tie-breaker. My research has the following, but I'm not changing anything now.

Team 256 - Argenta-Oreana is MY last team in at 4-4/36/6 and 4 playoff opponents totaling 25 wins.
Team 257 - Bartlett would be the first team out at 4-4/36/6 with 4 playoff opponents totaling 24 wins and having allowed 175 points in those 4 games.
Team 258 - Clifton Central would be the next out at 4-4/36/6 with 4 playoff opponents totaling 24 wins and having allowed 189 points in those 4 games.
Team 259 - Burlington Central would be third out at 4-4/36/6 with 4 playoff opponents totaling 23 wins

My adjustments....

Check the forfeits first. Just East St. Louis. Take away one win for now, drop them a few slots in the seeds.

Next, let's check to see if every conference has at least one team representing it in the playoff field. Praise Jesus, THEY ALL DO!

My adjustments.... Some are needed possibly, as detailed above. I made no adjustments, because it's too late and I'm tired.

THAT'S IT!
