What did we learn week 8!?!?!

Gone way too soon this season is. Just one week to go until the fun starts.

1 - That preseason rankings don’t mean squat - ask Cary Grove.
2 - That the DVC went all FVC this last week.
3 - That Stevenson is back in the show for 3 year hiatus.
4 - That we get out fair share of win or go home games week 9.
5 - That both Simeon and Morgan Park will cause problems in the playoffs.
6 - That if your team hasn’t learned to adjust to the elements, it’s too late.
7 - That quite likely a 4-5 team will make it, and they shouldn’t.
8 - That something happened long ago to Benet football.
9 - That all gas and no brakes found a running game
10 - That Moline could be a problem in 7A this year.

One more week until the fun starts.

NFHS Problems

I should have learned from other posters here on Edgy about the quality of NFSH broadcasts. I didn’t need it for football because I was watching the games live. I just signed up for the end of the basketball season. I watched a St. Rita game from Florida and the picture was ok. Fast forward to last night. I tried to watch the St. Rita - Fenwick game. For most of the game there no picture with a screen message they were having trouble with the camera.

So I switched over to the Loyola-De LaSalle game. The basketball court was too long because there were TWO centerlines in the picture. It looked like they had two fish eye cameras and wanted to merge the two camera feeds at the centerline but missed by 4 feet at the bottom of the screen to 8 feet maybe at the top of the screen. When a player dribbled the ball down court and crossed one center line he would appear again in the other side of the second centerline. So for awhile there were two pictures of the same player!

Is the quality of their broadcasting? If so I’ll cancel before my second month payment is due.

Changes in Basic Spot for Penalty Enforcement Headline 2023 High School Football Rules Changes

A notable change to Rule 10 of the NFHS Football Rules Book will eliminate the excessive penalty enforcements for offensive fouls that occur behind the line of scrimmage in high school football.

This change in Rule 10-4 (Basic Spots) is one of seven revisions recommended by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Football Rules Committee at its January 8-10 meeting in Indianapolis. All changes were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors for the 2023 high school football season.

In a move to achieve one of the committee’s fundamental tasks of maintaining a balance between offense and defense, this revision stipulates the basic spot for enforcement of fouls behind the line of scrimmage is the previous spot rather than the spot of the foul. Current penalties for illegal kicking, batting and participation fouls, as well as provisions for offensive fouls occurring in the end zone that may result in a safety, remain intact.

2022 Poster of the Year Awards. The Rocks.

So last year, I was able to post this in a more reasonable timeframe: first week of December. But Mrs. Rock and @McCaravan shook me out of my 2 month daze. Mrs. Rock found me last week in a puddle of my own urine, in the same pajamas I had on Nov. 19th, with empty boxes of Barracos and Marlboros strewn about and I don't even smoke. Then @3OrangeWhips @Topiary and @Vincennes6410 gave me some offseason juice and of course McCar's take on the new St. Rita coaching staff hires shook me back to the laptop. Thank you men, you are heroes!

Last year @eireog took the Rock for POY. Without further ado, my Poster of the Year Rock goes to @3OrangeWhips . Just knocked it out of the park this year. Always a solid poster, 3ow brought subtlety and humor to the cuts that cut both ways, great info with a new coach-Lauschless- BR team that many people had questions about, and provided great info in the CCL/ESCC realignment. Brother Rice posters are like that Aunt at your family parties: sometimes the smartest, sometimes the funniest, sometimes the most dramatic, sometimes the drunkest. With @krock the house mostly lurking and chilling and @Topiary only playing free safety and not letting misinformation or disparaging remarks get past him, 3ow has become the best source for Brother Rice information and comments and an excellent source for relevant info on the many CCL/ESCC rumors, lies and half-truths that make a season on @EdgyTim so entertaining. Congrats 3ow for an excellent season, keep an eye out for your Rock in your mailbox.

Last year @rocketnation took home the Rock for the "I've never heard of your school, I never followed your school or conference, but because you posted great info on your team and conference instead of just whining about how everyone just posts or talks Catholic League stuff, I now follow you, your team and conference because you are awesome" Rock award. This Rock category might need to get a shorter name. This year the "I didn't care until I met you" Rock goes to @Formicidae13 . Dude crushed it on all things Missouri Valley. His weekly "618 Talk" post was must-read material. Actual pertinent, current, information on the upcoming games, the results and the teams from that region. Man, I thought I was good, I thought I was Bond's Die Another Day Halle Berry but Formic's writing and reporting makes me look like Monster's Ball Halle Berry. Congratulations 13, If I can't make it down there to drop off the Rock, do me a favor and just grab one from the Cahokia Mounds and write "ROCK" on it with a Sharpie.

The Chicagoland Area Public Poster of the Year or the CLAP goes to: @brucealmighy . It was a close race with @stl705 and @RD_Watcher . But Bruce just can go into any IHSFB team, conference, matchup thread and post intelligent posts seamlessly. While I use him for his west suburban takes, as he reps the WSC Silver and his GW Hitters, he travels well into any area's High School football conversation and that's pretty admirable. My only question is, has anyone seen @brucealmighy and @ClownBaby together? When GW is up there among the state's best, Bruce is your man for West Suburban info! When WWS is up there as usual (lest a couple of seasons), @ClownBaby is the man for all things DuKane! Both knowledgeable, witty and assets to all our discussions on this board. Bruce, I'll stop by and give you the CLAP. Whoa, that doesn't sound too good. my apologies. How about you stop by Waterfall Glen and find a Rock and write CLAP on it with a Sharpie. Thank you and Congratulations on a fine season.

A shout out to a couple of new posters that are a joy to read. Some may not be new, new, heck I think one is an all-timer, but all the following I noticed more this year (I'm not checking sign up dates or history, obviously, 2022 was their only season if they are new, but if they are veterans of the board, I apologize putting them into the "new" category, but still thought they were worthy of a mention.) Maybe call it new to me award, even though no Rock's are awarded for this category to the following posters because one-hit wonders can't receive them, when you are consistent to the grind and bring it each season, then we can talk awards. Congratulations to @tuccs , @MalleusMaleficarum , @Silver Rain , @DMurph11 . Now DMurphs been around, but man, upping his game, getting CCL/ESCC ready, I just felt he deserved a mention because he was just informative and passionate all season long. Congratulations to our "new to Rock" shout out winners.

Hopefully, next year, I can release these closer to the end of the High School season but with the Caravan kicking my teeth out Nov 19th and needing the recovery time, I thought if I can still get it out before the Super Big Game, this post can be considered this season.

Thank you to all my Edgy family, and of course thanks to the grand poobah for giving us a place to get us through these seasons and an almost necessary distraction from real world junk. THANKS FAM!!!
