What brings you here?

I do remember the Joliet Catholic site. I would fondly talk about the Illini 8 Days. I’ll stir the hornets nest(don’t worry Edgy) I actually found out about this page when an arguement happened in a site that some of you I think possibly the Mt. Carmel people may remember. It told true news that the media mostly Chicago/Chicagoland swept under the rug as well as national & it was called Detective Shaved Longcock. True or Tru News USA was another.

ICE week 1 recap

‘Tone took care of business as expected. 55-14

Coalers put up a decent fight @ Morris, but eventually got worn down. I heard their QB1 also suffered an injury and didn’t play the second half. Unsure of his status. 31-12

Wilmo handled Hope a bit easier than I expected. After giving up an early score, adjustments were made, and Hope did little the rest of the way. 44-6

Manteno put up quite a few points vs Sandwich and won what looked to be a bit of a shootout. 54-32.

Streator pulled out the win vs Ike in what was maybe a mini upset. 20-12

Herscher got relatively handled by Chicago Christian. 34-14.

R-C got humbled by a decent EPG team. 28-6

It looks rough in Lisle. Scored the first TD then proceeded to give up 42 unanswered to a Harvard team that hadn’t won a game since 2021. 42-7

Overall 4-4 for the league.

Predictions for flyers vs Loyola

Does ESL have more database kids? Absolutely. But what does that actually measure? Typically height, weight, 40 time etc.

I'm not buying that CG or any team making it to the championship game did it with a bunch of bad athletes that aren't skilled on football. So I agree with your final sentence which to me is the point.
This. CG is 56-11 with 3 championships in the last 6 seasons. They ain't doing it with smoke and mirrors.

Predictions for flyers vs Loyola

Considering ESL doesn’t have a hockey team, I would say Cary Grove.

I made that determination about CG and PR because I was a high school football official for many years. If you disagree about the comparison, I would be all ears.

ESL’s talent is objectively leaps and bounds above virtually anyone, anywhere. Loyola coach said himself he’s never seen speed like that. This is not a knock on Cary Grove. I thought it was awesome when they won last year.

CG clearly is talented and they all run that offense from second grade on. They execute it to perfection. It’s awesome. I just think CG is a matchup problem scheme wise for ESL more than anything. They have ESL’s number, but I don’t think they could compete nationally like ESL does. Just my opinion. Personally, I’m proud to have both teams in the IHSA.
I still don't know what you mean by talent level. I don't know that I disagree or agree with your assessment of the talent level of CG and PR. To me, the teams tend to play very competitive games against each other so my assumption is that the talent level is similar.

CG and ESL tend to play very competitive games against each other so I assume when they meet up the talent level is similar. Maybe one of those years when ESL makes it to the championship and CG doesn't the talent level is different, who knows?

It appears to me, this year there is a wide gap between ESL and LA talent wise. Maybe if they played again the game is closer and the talent level is apparently more similar. Who knows?

Predictions for flyers vs Loyola

The overall skill level is very similar in my view, though the style of play is (of course) very different.

What did we learn week 1!?!?

Lol
Hard to argue with you since LA has beat the Griffins the past 2 years but East has beat them before so there’s that. I agree that the ESL/LA was a bigger game.

I’m not sure what next level means in this reference? Coach Zvonar has announced his retirement date already to the district and is the only head coach LW East has ever had since inception. Too many folks to mention have turned this public program into a powerhouse program and if winning titles is the only measure of success there are a lot of failing football teams in the state. 6 appearances in the final game I believe would be enough for any program in 23 years and having never missed the playoffs with an insane .841 winning percentage? First year was with a Frosh,Soph and Junior fed team only…no senior class was in the building. The softball team upstaged them winning state without a senior class in the building…
I understand the ESL comparisons and talk as well and appreciate their program, but the Griffins have never played them, although district sister school LW Central has had a home/home competition not that long ago with both teams splitting the outcomes. Enjoy the season all!
I am old & remember when Lincoln Way East was a Frosh/Soph High School for Lincoln Way(sorry I refuse to call it or original Plainfield Lincoln Way Central or Plainfield Central) & schools who would play Lincoln Way on Saturdays before they had lights would wind up at East High School lol

JCA/Oswego

Thoughts?
What kind of offense does Oswego run? Can their defensive line match up with the Hilltoppers offensive line to stop running game? Looking forward to this one!
Does Oswego have a streaming service?
Will JCA stream the game? Thx!
Should be a fun one. Both teams will know a lot more about themselves after this one. I know Oswego has a good defense and a highly touted linebacker. I am not sure what the size of their DL measures on average, but their defensive front against the mammoth JC OL will determine a lot here. Oswego will need to stop the run. Doing so would force JC to put the ball in the air more this week. Assuming Oswego has some success slowing the JC run game, that will tell us a lot about the versatility of this offensive attack. If they are forced to throw, how effective will it be?

JC's defense looked good. They will be tested more this week than last week.

Overall though, it will be strength on strength as the veteran Hilltopper offense takes on the veteran Panther defense.

I'm fairly sure I heard the JCA announcers say "see you next week at Oswego". They usually do away games if they can.

Predictions for flyers vs Loyola

So often on this board, we perceive the ability of players by how they are judged by recruiters at the college level, instead of judging them as high school players. There are certainly great 3-5 star athletes that are great high school players, but there is also a certain amount that are judged based on their potential and measurables, rather than their ability to play the game at the HS level.

CG has a lot of really good HS players that run a system that plays to their strengths, and since it is different than what most teams see, week in and week out, it adds to their strength. And success breeds success., from the JR levels on up.
I'm not sure if, with this message, you are agreeing or disagreeing with my post. Either way, I agree with what you have written here.

In my post, I referred to the star system and college recruiting as a measure of talent (natural athletic ability), not as a measure of overall high school football playing ability. Football playing ability can also be developed through training (weights and conditioning) and practice. When, as you put it, players are "judged based on their potential and measurables," it is their talent level that is being judged.

It is my contention, which is just one man's opinion, that as a program East St. Louis's teams generally have more talent than Cary-Grove's teams. The overall skill level is very similar in my view, though the style of play is (of course) very different.

What did we learn week 1!?!?

Agreed. LWE has an outstanding program and a proud tradition firmly in place. They've had some great talent and teams come thru there. You can bet the search committee will be looking for a HC that can take the Griffins to the next level. It will be interesting to see who they bring in. That day is coming sooner than people think.
I’m not sure what next level means in this reference? Coach Zvonar is the only head coach LW East has ever had since inception. I’m certain his retirement date is not private.Too many folks to mention have turned this public program into a powerhouse program and if winning titles is the only measure of success there are a lot of failing football teams in the state. 6 appearances in the final game I believe would be enough for any program in 23 years and having never missed the playoffs with an insane .841 winning percentage?
