Pass Interference Rules

Yeah, I don't necessarily think that they need to go full NFL. I am familiar with the rule, but I just never saw it get as exploited as I did this weekend. I can't imagine the circumstance would make since often at the HS level, but it was pretty wild. The way the rule is written (to go to a laughable extreme) you could line up a bunch of wrestlers in press on the and just tackle all the recievers every play until the game ends to ice a game with the lead. It didn't quite get to that level but the end result was the same. Evert time the recievers would get more than 10 yards downfield they were just getting wrapped up. The rules have to be written in a way where they can't be easily exploited, and in my humble opinion this one is not.

At very least make it a spot foul so they can't just hit a defenseless reciever while the ball is in the air and just take the walkoff, right?
Im not understanding your gripe/scenario. If the def decided to get a PI every play, thats a free 15yds and the clock stops. Its no different than if the offense ran 15yd outs the entire length of the field. Unless the refs just dont call the foul, im not sure how a committing consecutive DPI calls exploits the rule to the advantage of the defense.

Pass Interference Rules

The following is just one opinion, with several aspects to the opinion. I, for one, like the rule as written. Pass interference tends to be one of the most controversial penalties in football. Perhaps half of those calls are clear; but the other half seem to be very questionable calls by the officials. Why give the offense a 40-yard advantage by making a questionable call on a long pass? I would rather the offense have to earn the yardage rather than officials gifting them the yardage. Secondly, in most cases a 15-yard penalty will give the offense a first down. That in itself is a worthwhile advantage for the offense. And lastly, (although I may be wrong on this), I do not think a game can end on a defensive penalty. Consequently, at least on a technical level, the scenario you describe above cannot happen. The defense would not be able to end a game with repeated penalties. If the defense commits a penalty as time runs out on the game, the offense would be given another play as an untimed down.

JCA Shut Out

JCA brought back 15 players. But none of them, according to Mike O'Brien, have star power. That's how you get shut out in your second game..
Lots of teams don't have players with star power and don't get shutout. I think it has a little something to do with Oswego being pretty good.

Pass Interference Rules

I understand that, I mean conceptually... I just don't understand, at all, why they would write the rule like that? I mean, for instance, they changed the kickoff rules in the NFL because they wanted to protect against the full speed collisions. They change the tackling rules for the same reason, etc. Why on earth would they set the rules up so that teams can get a lead and just tackle your wide recievers?
This is the way this rule has always been. This isn’t the only rule that’s different from the NFL rule book.

I’m sure they look at it each year. Wouldn’t be surprised if the HS rule matches the college rule before too long. But I don’t see it matching the NFL rule any time soon.

Naz @ MC

We’ve seen this episode before…Naz has to be at the very least 5 score dogs. It’s the mighty caravan from the mighty blue. They don’t even belong on the same field. Logan not even a part of the conversation for Illinois QBs his 41 TDS and 3k yards came against inferior opponents than that of MC. Plus the rain…forget about it!

Blah, Blah, Blah

Montini beat Loyola for the first time with a sophomore QB at Loyola.

All You Can Eat Chicken

But you gotta clean up after.

The parish festival at Queen of Peace (aka The Factory) may have broken even after feeding the Crusaders during the all-you-can-eat chicken dinner. Still, the Althoff boys did their part by cleaning up and putting away all of the tables and chairs this morning.

I am sure public schools do stuff like this too, but it is nice to see the community that is built in Catholic schools.

CS8 Predictions-Week 2

Week 3 Matchups
Division play starts, so only 6 games all on Friday.

West Division
Jacksonville (2-0) at SHG (1-1)
Southeast (0-2) at QND (1-1)
Springfield (2-0) at Lanphier (0-2)

East Division
Chatham (1-1) at Eisenhower (0-2)
MacArthur (1-1) at U High (1-1)
Rochester (1-1) at Lincoln (2-0)

MacArthur at U High is the probably the game of the week after both schools had tough Week 2 losses. From a playoff point of view, the Generals need this one more than the Pioneers who end the season with Eisenhower, Southeast, and Lanphier. U High won 28-14 in '23.

It's looking more and more like the Week 8 matchup between Lanphier and Eisenhower will be the only win opportunity for either team.

There was a fair amount of hype leading into the Week 3 game last year between Jacksonville and SHG. The Crimsons were 2-0 and coming off a last second victory over MacArthur, and the Cycs were 1-1. SHG pulled away quickly and won going away 51-10.
All.... "Shangri-La" , the old Griffin Wood tailgate area owned by the diocese which had been closed since late last season having been washed out with ruts, construction mud dumped in the area and torn out grass was reopened Friday.

Monster numbers of Cyclone supporters and even some of the Indian faithful arrived in that area to tailgate. (the rodent was holding court as usual🐀) I would thinka big crowd to show up Friday. It was nice to see the SHG side loaded up again and expect because the Crimsons travel well their side loaded up. Especially since they come in 2-0. Should be another fun one.Ratsy

Maine East 34, Aurora East 6

Was a freshman when Jay Baum was a senior. His group got the program turned around however short lived it was. Jay and I ended up coaching against each other when he was at DGS and I was at GW. Had the privilege of working out for a little bit with Guy Bouliaux in his garage along with his brother Bryan. Guy was doing stuff with weights way ahead of most, this was way before schools were having their football players and athletes lift seriously.
