Biggest issue with the lack of Week 0 scrimmage games?

If this came before the rule for team camps in the summer every school would do it if possible. The reality that some people don't want to hear is that most schools have had 200 reps in summer camp already lined up with different schools. If this was 10 years ago when team summer camps weren't allowed you'd get 90% schools matched up. Some coaches with thin teams don't want the risk an injury or two a week before the games count on the record whether that's right or wrong.

Week 0 Scrimmage

I don’t understand why a team wouldn’t do this.
I can only echo the few coaches I have talked to, but some are worried about potential season altering injuries. For example, what you see with NFL joint practice fights. Except instead of fights, kids going out of control at a QB or whomever. Personally, I think that can happen at any time, even with planting wrong at practice.

The Hun School of Princeton @ MC (Week 1)

Hun School of Princeton play this Thursday August 22rd, We can get a look at them a week early, Which is good! Just looking at Maxpreps roster they look like they have size, but not depth if I was a betting man MC numbers will wear down them down, Maybe a potential dog fight but I'm sure Lynch has some tricks up his sleeve. 42-14 MC
Looks like Hun lost a close one to Haverford (PA), 25-24.

5-4 Flyers

matching a 5-4 team vs. a 9-0 team in the first round and having the 5-4 team the favorite is old news.
We just did that last year with 4-5 Nazareth Academy taking out 9-0 Prairie Ridge in the first round and then beating a 9-1 team via running clock in the Round of 32.
Seedings are meaningless. I cringe every time I read about how a team can use a forfeit win for playoff points. The only time it matters is if a team is in the 4-5 range record-wise and needs playoff points to get into the postseason. Otherwise, seedings are a crap shoot. Last year in 6A, a three seed (out of 16 teams in the north) and a four seed (out of 16 teams in the south) played for the state title.
This coming season in 8A, it's possible that Loyola could be a 7-2 team come tourney time. Last year, in a 1-32 seeding, the best-ranked 7-2 8A team was seeded 10th.
Loyola seeded 10th in 8A?
The less offered up about "seeding" the better.

No crap, dude. Saying obvious stuff isn’t the intelligent statement you think it is. Point is until IHSA adopts a more complicated playoff seeding system (check out joeeitel.com if you want to see the mess Ohio has to sift through) you’re going to have 5-4 teams knocking off paper tigers every year.

Problem with that method is before Ohio expanded they did have the occasional 10-0 team miss the playoffs entirely.

FLYERS 5-4? Can't wait to see the lucky 9-0 that draws them round one 😂

Biggest issue with the lack of Week 0 scrimmage games?

Most coaches look at this night as a dress rehearsal. Working on pre-game mechanics, uniform issues, technology on the sidelines, personnel logistics, etc. Health is way more important than banging heads in a competitive scrimmage. That's what the coaches that I've talked to have said.
Same here, but some here think those coaches are idiots and don't know what they are doing.

Biggest issue with the lack of Week 0 scrimmage games?

It’s better to get a look against kids that aren’t your own it’s a better look and gives you a chance to correct flaws before the games count.

The whole big night for fall sports thing that has been mentioned multiple times is stupid your job is to coach the football team not help out the girls volleyball team. Come year 2 when there is a noticeable difference between teams that play week 0 and those that don’t it will become a non issue.
In most schools, the HC for football does not have all power. The AD might be a roadblock and want the "fall sports" thing. AS much as we love HS fball here, it's not the end all be all at most schools.

Biggest issue with the lack of Week 0 scrimmage games?

When I played 30 years ago we used to have a Jamboree game where we would bring in 8 teams and we'd all play 1 half at the same location. It was a lot of fun. You'd bring in teams from out of conference and out of state. You could team up with 4 conference teams and all play a team that you wouldn't see during the season. It was a great way to start the season. Personally I think the Intrasquad scrimmages are a little dumb. You need to see a different color jersey to dial up the intensity and If you have your best players playing both ways it doesn't give you a great look.
NW Indiana has or had an O’Rama & not sure what they called the ones in Illinois. I know for some years instead of playing 9 games Bremen,Hillcrest,Tinley Park & Oak Forest would have some scrimmage in week 1 amongst themselves

State Champ Predications

1A - Camp Point

2A - Althoff

3A - Byron

4A - Rochester

5A - St. Francis

6A - East St. Louis

7A - Mt. Carmel

8A - Edwardsville
I know more about 1A than I do any other class. Feels like it is a tad more loaded. Lena, Althoff (potentially), CPC will be well coached again and have that stud FB back, Hardin Calhoun returns a significant amount from last years team that made CPC work in both games, Morrison and Annawan-Weathersfield as well. I'm sure there are more teams I forgot

Impact Player for South Elgin

South Elgin senior WR/TE Ishmael George (6-foot-2, 206 pounds) has a very productive season in 2023 for the Storm added 20 touchdown catches . George has good sixe and physical tools and is a receiver who just shows great hands and runs very good overall routes.

Looking for a sleeper name to watch for South Elgin? South Elgin senior QB Jack Ginnan also had a very solid 2023 season for the Storm. Ginnan was an all conference and all area performer last season.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 South Elgin Storm

South Elgin and first year head coach Pat Pistorio is looking to keep the Storm on the winning path after the Storm posted a 9-2 season in 2023. Pistorio, who previously the Storms head coach from 2013-2017 and posted a 29-19 record at that time. Pistorio left Niles North to come back to South Elgin this spring replacing former head coach Dragan Teonic.

The biggest question facing South Elgin this summer?

Can the Storm continue it's winning ways under old/new heasd coach Pat Pistorio? The Storm have been one of the power programs in the Upstate 8 conference for several years now. With an impressive 15 returning starters back this season (10 offense 5 defense) look for the Storm to pick up right where they left off last season and to get back into the IHSA state playoff field.

Preseason Ranking? 2024 Preseason EDGYTIM Chicagoland Top 30 poll consideration.

Biggest issue with the lack of Week 0 scrimmage games?

Preview night for all sports I would agree is one big reason why more havent. Another reason is the schools cant have back to back days with contact otherwise you could do all sports preview on Friday and Scrimmage on Saturday. Id say the scrimmage is more beneficial in the smaller schools where program numbers are low. You get really next to nothing out of trying to scrimmage your JV squads.
