Biggest issue with the lack of Week 0 scrimmage games?

Unpopular opinion…

People way overthink safety for IHSA football.

It’s ok to go full padded and tackle to the ground several times a week during camp. You have to learn to play the game physical and have to learn how to tackle and hit people.

If you teach your kids the correct way to tackle…they are fine to practice full go.

My team of choice didn’t do a scrimmage for fear of player injuries. They also don’t tackle during practice for fear of injury. They also….have become a very average and soft program.

State Champ Predications

Sounds like your town has some real skeletons in its closet. I will be rooting for the Cary Grove Bigots to go winless this season. Although I would love to sit on their side of the field and hear what they REALLY think of ESL as they’re getting spanked in the finals. I’m sure those are some real DisgustingSounds.
You're a special boy aren't you. Ya need to stop the racist shit truthfully because the dog don't hunt anymore.

Biggest issue with the lack of Week 0 scrimmage games?

If this came before the rule for team camps in the summer every school would do it if possible. The reality that some people don't want to hear is that most schools have had 200 reps in summer camp already lined up with different schools. If this was 10 years ago when team summer camps weren't allowed you'd get 90% schools matched up. Some coaches with thin teams don't want the risk an injury or two a week before the games count on the record whether that's right or wrong.

Week 0 Scrimmage

I don’t understand why a team wouldn’t do this.
I can only echo the few coaches I have talked to, but some are worried about potential season altering injuries. For example, what you see with NFL joint practice fights. Except instead of fights, kids going out of control at a QB or whomever. Personally, I think that can happen at any time, even with planting wrong at practice.

The Hun School of Princeton @ MC (Week 1)

Hun School of Princeton play this Thursday August 22rd, We can get a look at them a week early, Which is good! Just looking at Maxpreps roster they look like they have size, but not depth if I was a betting man MC numbers will wear down them down, Maybe a potential dog fight but I'm sure Lynch has some tricks up his sleeve. 42-14 MC
Looks like Hun lost a close one to Haverford (PA), 25-24.

5-4 Flyers

matching a 5-4 team vs. a 9-0 team in the first round and having the 5-4 team the favorite is old news.
We just did that last year with 4-5 Nazareth Academy taking out 9-0 Prairie Ridge in the first round and then beating a 9-1 team via running clock in the Round of 32.
Seedings are meaningless. I cringe every time I read about how a team can use a forfeit win for playoff points. The only time it matters is if a team is in the 4-5 range record-wise and needs playoff points to get into the postseason. Otherwise, seedings are a crap shoot. Last year in 6A, a three seed (out of 16 teams in the north) and a four seed (out of 16 teams in the south) played for the state title.
This coming season in 8A, it's possible that Loyola could be a 7-2 team come tourney time. Last year, in a 1-32 seeding, the best-ranked 7-2 8A team was seeded 10th.
Loyola seeded 10th in 8A?
The less offered up about "seeding" the better.

No crap, dude. Saying obvious stuff isn’t the intelligent statement you think it is. Point is until IHSA adopts a more complicated playoff seeding system (check out joeeitel.com if you want to see the mess Ohio has to sift through) you’re going to have 5-4 teams knocking off paper tigers every year.

Problem with that method is before Ohio expanded they did have the occasional 10-0 team miss the playoffs entirely.
