Bears

It is beyond me how anyone can throw a rookie QB under the bus after 10 games. Especially when the guy gets no protection when passing. They just throw the guy in there with very little preseason playing time and expect a Rookie Of The Year performance and with some of the play calling? Yeah outside the new OC, the coaches DO suck. Especially the HC. BTW do you still think this is a playoff team?
Seems to be working out ok for Daniels and Nix. Hell even Maye has looked better in limited action on a terrible team.

Funny how everyone was ready to anoint him before he took a single snap, but when he's not good then we can't judge him based on only 10 games.

MMXXIV Edition - CCL-ESCC Predictions Week XIII

Naz -13 Hurts me to do this to my new Spartan friends but taking the 'runners seniors at home over the young St. Francis squad. I will justify it to my new friends by telling them I am only doing this to counteract Tuccs Holtzian posts this week.
Ouch! I’m human you know! When I get cut I bleed 😢

I like your pick though 😉

The following question is posed merely as a matter of curiosity. Why do people on this thread periodically refer to Gambletron, when the predictions come from CalPreps?
What. The. Heck. My whole life has been a lie. No way. Out with your blasphemy. Its full name is actually Gambletron 3000 tho. So there.

Never said it was all on him, but at this is factual data, not just "oh the coaches suck".

MMXXIV Edition - CCL-ESCC Predictions Week XIII

Some surprising spreads from Gambletron this week. I might be able to get more than 1 right. Hope springs eternal.

Ignatius -14....picking these Prep Bowl games is a bit like picking the games in the last week of the NFL season. Who is actually trying to win?
Montini +3...what was Gambletron smoking in coming up with this spread?
DePaul +4....Gambletron still with some altered perception on this one?
St Francis +13....seems like too many points. Rivalry game played a second time. Should be close.
Morris +35....can Morris compete at the LOS? They didn't last year. IF the compete better, they will cover this spread.
Rita +10....another rivalry game played a second time. MC's pass defense is very suspect. Does Rita have the passing game to exploit that? Rita's defense is stout, but MC will score. Can Rita score enough to keep this one close and possibly pull it out at the end? I like their chances at home. (Hopefully, that's not the kiss of death for the Mustangs).
LWE -7....went into this expecting to take LA and the points. But, I thought the spread would be higher. Just seems like a tall order for the Ramblers in Frankfort only getting 7. This LWE team just seems too good.

Marmion Academy To Go Coed

And if not, where will all these females come from for Marmion? I assume Batavia and surrounding western burbs will provide some, just like they do presently for their boys. But I would think most of the families of girls with means who want Catholic/Christian education in Aurora are already paying for Rosary, ACC, or AC. If Marmion isn't going to make inroads with the ACC crowd, I don't know that there is enough female population for this to be a successful transition. I just don't see a ton of new families who are going to be like "I was going to send my daughter to Batavia HS, but now there is finally a private option in Aurora I am satisfied with."

If they did their feasibility study right, and I have to assume they did, they know the answer to your question of where the girls will come from. My guess is that there is substantial money from existing Marmion families that has been pledged or in some way committed to this change. Current and past Marmion families that want to send their girls to Marmion and not to any other Catholic high school is likely where many of the girls will be coming from.

Let's not overlook Marmion enrolling girls who would have otherwise attended Batavia, Geneva, or St Charles East high schools.

My only prediction with limited knowledge is that either this will be a failed experiment by Marmion OR it will be real bad news for at least Rosary if not ACC. I can't imagine all three thriving, but I hope I am wrong.

Folks said Trinity and Regina would close when Fenwick and Loyola went coed 25-30 years ago. That hasn't happened. Both are very much alive. Regina's girls hoops team finished fourth in 2A last year. Regina is actually in a much better financial position now than they were back with they had 4 times the number of girls as they have now.

MMXXIV Edition - CCL-ESCC Predictions Week XIII

NND +14 I'm officially on the Don bandwagon. I think their game matches up well vs Iggy and we are treated to an exciting back and forth affair

Montini +3 The line reminds me of when my Pops ran a confidence pool at the tavern for the neighborhood degens back in the day with the teaser spread for the College bowl games. You'd think swinging a line 10 points was easy pickings. It was not.

DeP +4 Not exactly confident with the Rams being on the road but they have had an exceptional year and cannot see it ending this weekend.

Naz -13 Hurts me to do this to my new Spartan friends but taking the 'runners seniors at home over the young St. Francis squad. I will justify it to my new friends by telling them I am only doing this to counteract Tuccs Holtzian posts this week.

JCA -35 I am done going opposite the Hilltoppers. They are rough and tumble to the outside looking in but actually explosive enough to keep crushing these spreads each week

MC -10 A little recency bias has infected a handful of pickers out there in Edgyland between St. Rita's impressive third quarter vs Quincy and Mt. Carmel's closer-than-expected shave vs the Ironmen last weekend. Hoping it's a close game into the 4th quarter and if it is, Mt. Carmel has proven they don't mind scoring all the way up to the 0:00 mark. So a backdoor cover is always in play even if the action on the field is more of a slobber-knocker

LA +7 No team has benefitted more from a week one opponent than the Ramblers have from their Flyer drubbing in August. Will they win, who knows, but they are better today than nearly 3 months ago

Marmion Academy To Go Coed

A lot
How does ACC get by at that low a tuition rate? Do they have other substantial sources of funds? Is there a required fundraiser for an extra few grand per year? Large endowment?

Unless you're lookin at an all religious faculty (which is seemingly not even possible today), it is hard to conceptualize paying salaries and benefits and maintenance while only bringing in 7-8 k per year per child.
It is my understanding that the "Central Catholic High School" concept, whether it is Aurora Central Catholic, Marian Central Catholic, Newman Central Catholic, Bloomington Central Catholic, etc. means, in part, that the school is "central" to a number of surrounding Catholic parishes that provide an annual subsidy to that school. If true, that could certainly explain a lower tuition, especially for kids from those surrounding parishes.

Marmion Academy To Go Coed

Marmion is a fantastic school and this will be the end of Rosary.

One thing I don't understand, they want to start with Jr/Sr female classes. Why not start with Freshman and grow by a class each year? If your kid transfers there as jr/sr they are going to have to sit out a year due to the transfer rules.
Rosary is also a fantastic school. As MTFB pointed out, people said Trinity would close when Fenwick went coed. Didn't happen. People said Regina would close when Loyola went coed. Didn't happen.

I think what is really going to be interesting is to see is how this move impacts Catholic coed schools like Benet and St Francis and Aurora Central Catholic. As the crow flies, Marmion is just 8 miles from St. Francis and 10 miles from Benet.

Will kids interested in a Catholic coed education who live on the western edges of the Benet and St. Francis enrollment areas continue going east to Benet and St Francis, or will they perhaps stay closer to home and go to coed Marmion? Is a Marmion education LOCALLY PERCEIVED as equal to or better than those two schools?

As for ACC, it is just four miles from Marmion as the crow flies. Elsewhere in this thread, someone mentioned that ACC tuition is much less than Marmion. I think the presumption they were making is that very few families in ACC's demographic would want to pay much higher tuition to send their kids to Marmion now that it is coed. Perhaps. Only time will tell, though.

I've always been told its because of their association with the Rockford Diocese. Most schools in the Rockford diocese are under 10k...except Marmion and Woodstock Marian.

Great Job Ritamen!

Cool move, no question. But let’s be real—schools and students pull off nice stuff all the time. Cut the hype parade and gear up for the real main event: taking on your big brother this Saturday.
Dick, let me explain it to you. I’m a Carmel guy, and I said that Rita finished fourth in the special Olympics. I was trying to be a little creative, not using the pizza joke. Problem is, I don’t think the Rita guys got it.

Marmion Academy To Go Coed

Coming from an outsiders perspective, this seems like it would be similar to BR going coed and not merging with McAuley. Neither school seemingly struggling financially or enrollment wise. Some good athletics teams at both schools. It just doesn’t make much sense. I know the distance between Rosary & Marmion is probably greater than that between BR & McAuley, but I don’t understand it. Hope it works out for the best.

Addison West- (Cary Grove 2018) Outland Semifinalist

Addison is a great kid. I had him as a 4th grader playing middleweight, which was mainly 6th graders, and I made a comment, Who's this West kid, he's big and really athletic, but he sure is goofy. That was when I was informed he was two years younger than the rest of the team.

It will be interesting if he makes the league. That would make 2 pro athletes from the 2018 Championship team, Addison and Quinn Priester with the Red Sox.
