ICE week 1 recap

I was on the initial interview committee for him. He blew the room away. I still can't believe Chicago Christian got him. Yes, we are all very excited to watch them over the next few years
I’m hoping he stays for awhile. I really think that place can be a 2A/3A title contender. They used to have some really good teams and in a great area for talent.

ICE week 1 recap

Chicago Christian is on the rise and has a good coach.

El Paso isn't a bad team at all. I am not surprised by the outcome at all. Thought RC would put up more of a fight.

Expected more of a game in Wilmington and Hope but Wilmington has proven how tough they are to play, especially at home.

Streator beat a very, very bad Eisenhower team.

Something must have happened to Lisle, injuries, kids in trouble, or something. But I have heard Harvard is on the rebound, maybe not playoffs yet but will win some games.

Coal City fought hard but not hard enough.

Manteno jumped on Sandwich and never looked back. Looks like some huge improvements from the Panthers this year.

What brings you here?

Joined Sept 2019. Lurker for awhile, have no interest in Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Started here to follow local teams that I knew had kids I had coached myself or coworkers kids who played and I followed their teams. Deep love for the game at the HS level for what it taught me and deep appreciation for the coaches out there. Played for Tim Cedarblad, Bob Williams and Ira Jefferson. Love the lower level college because thats the level I played at. Played for Jim Scott, Jon Cooper, Mark Walsh, Paul Hefty, Joe Nauman, Tim Betustak. All had influence in my experience and college years. Now, I really love seeing those I played with and who are coaching now-Brian Cooney, Tyson LeBlanc, Benny Boyd, Marc Hancock, Dan McGuire, Paul Forsythe, Tony Melchiori, Joe Howell, just the ones I know of and there's probably more.......appreciate the site and the connection it provides for people who share a passion for the game.

Lyons and Bennett Not On Rivals Radar

Working on it now......also Lyons played at Granite City last season so was pretty much an unknown and we wiull cover them regardless. I think I have a pretty good track record of covering ESTL kids over the past 20 plus years or so.....
OH, for sure you do!!!

Another thread was about HS studs that are not necessarily college material, thus the incredulousness of CG beating ESL was disrespectful,

Lyons and Bennett Not On Rivals Radar

Neither East Side's starting QB Kendrick Lyons or Christopher Bennett Jr. have profiles for Rivals as far as I can tell.

This is similar to the stars and MVPs for many CG and PG teams - great talented and disciplined high school ball players, maybe not so much in college.

Predictions for flyers vs Loyola

I'm not sure if, with this message, you are agreeing or disagreeing with my post. Either way, I agree with what you have written here.

In my post, I referred to the star system and college recruiting as a measure of talent (natural athletic ability), not as a measure of overall high school football playing ability. Football playing ability can also be developed through training (weights and conditioning) and practice. When, as you put it, players are "judged based on their potential and measurables," it is their talent level that is being judged.

It is my contention, which is just one man's opinion, that as a program East St. Louis's teams generally have more talent than Cary-Grove's teams. The overall skill level is very similar in my view, though the style of play is (of course) very different.
I'm agreeing with you, but wanted to make the point that so many times we judge HS players on how they are recruited, rather than their play on the field.

MMXXIV Edition - CCL-ESCC Predictions Week I

I haven’t even skimmed the tallies yet. Anybody glance at who did well? The full report will be out Monday night.

It won’t be tonight. After 3 intense days of football, tonight is for Mrs. Rock. Can’t believe she still talks to me after 31 years. Must be the romantic dinners I lavishly spent on her in the past. But tonight is special, I’ll add candlelight this time to our steak burrito dinner. Then the next time we’ll talk is after Thanksgiving. Maybe that’s the secret to our happy relationship.
You laugh @chakazulu89 but you know full well you and I out kicked our coverage in the wife department. I hope they never get their eyes fixed and they most definitely enjoy that we turn 17 years old every year from September to December 😂

What did we learn week 1!?!?

Oops. I was wrong.

ICE week 1 recap

Chicago Christian’s new HC was the sophomore HC at Mt Carmel. I think this is a program that is going to do some good things under him. Excited to watch them over the next few years.

ICE week 1 recap

Nice start for them, but it remains to be seen what’s up with Herscher.
I heard they might be on the rebound, but they’ve been pretty rough since COVID.
I was at the game and Herscher left me shaking my head. They had some success running the ball against CC, so they decided to start passing. Bad choice. So they went back to the run game and had some success again. So they started passing again. I think the QB was picked off 4 times. I don't get it. Anyway, I'll take the win !
