Nothing like Friday night lights!!!

CS8 Predictions-Week 5

Going to learn a lot about the character of this Raider team on the road for first time Friday. I like QND's chances if the game turns into a ground and pound slugfest due to weather. Might counter some of the speed and athleticism I've seen from the SHS WR/DB... Will be interesting to see how disciplined SHS is. QND avoided critical mistakes last week against SHG, while SHG penalties really killed a few drives for the Cycs. QND is going to need to make some extra points too. I said last week to my father that QND's inability to convert points after is going to come back to bite them...

Put up or shut up time for the Rockets. I've got one of them "feelings" U-High has something to say Friday night. We shall see....
Springfield is all giddy about their squad. But while they begin the season 4-0, it is more than likely they end 4-5. SHS has literally played absolute garbage in their first four games. Their first four opponents have a combined 3 wins. Meanwhile, QND has played a .500 schedule including only one team with a winning record, average opponent ranking #172. This week will be the test to see if the Raiders are worth anything. SHS never performs well under pressure. I see a 4th victory for the Dump Next to Hannibal.

Meanwhile, the Rockets have played 6A Simeon (3-1), 6.6667A Ritter (Division 5 of a 6 class system, #3 in Missouri, and 4-0), Lincoln (2-2), and 6A Chatham (3-1), average opponent ranking #103. Thats a 12-4 opponent's record as they begin the "easy" part of their schedule. U-High has also played a .500 schedule, average opponent ranking is #257. U-High seems to always keep it close. However since Derek's system has been in place, there have been 7 running clocks by Rochester. The two squads are NOT the same.

Cary Grove will TBC against Prairie Ridge but the game should be close as these two heavyweights punch each other. Most people wouldn't want it but I would like to see a 3rd place game in each class. After all Illinois has to have the money for few extra trophies with all their friggin taxes they steal from y'all!!! Are y'all taxed on the air ya breath?

EStL knows its place but if they can't play without getting 25 holding calls because they are too friggin..... lazy to block the correct way, they could be watching someone else play for the hardware!!!
ESL has NEVER loss a game due to holding calls. Not sure why you love typing such madness.

What team do you root AGAINST? Why?

Cleveland for being gutless and changing their nickname and mascot
Illinois for ditching the Chief
Washington for being gutless of ditching the Redskins name with 86% of Native Americans who supported the Redskins name!
Morris for ditching the Redskins name... Pure gutlessness!
North Dakota for ditching their mascot
Marquette for ditching their nickname "Warriors" Pure gutlessness
St. John's for ditching their nickname....
Syracuse for ditching their nickname... pure gutlessness
NBA and the NFL for numerous reasons.
RPO offenses... Arcade game scoring...
College football as a whole.... Paying players while they get a free ride without earning a degree... Shorts instead of pants...

Glenbard West question

It’s a race to the middle in BGYFL. The big towns are forced to field two teams at a level. While towns with 1 team can petition and go to silver.

The problem is the size difference in programs.

Carol stream for example is the feeder program for gbn

Wheaton rams is the youth program for 3 different high schools and will draw a lot more kids.

10 years ago a lot of these program would field 3-4 teams at every level. I also remember when park ridge had enough kids to have a house league and also a travel team that was in pop Warner.

Fenwick is likely to be the only contender from the CCL/ESCC.

My best guess is shown below. It is the same ten teams ranked by the Associated Press, so there is no real revelation here. However, other than the teams ranked 1 and 2, my order does vary from the A.P. The record in parenthesis is the team's current record, and to the right of that is their projected final regular-season record.

1.) East St. Louis (4-0) 8-1
2.) Cary-Grove (4-0) 8-1
3.) Fenwick (3-1) 7-2
4.) Libertyville (4-0) 9-0
5.) Kankakee (3-1) 8-1
6.) Geneva (4-0) 8-1
7.) Lake Forest (4-0) 8-1
8.) Chatham Glenwood (3-1) 8-1
9.) Kaneland (4-0) 7-2
10.) Belvidere North (4-0) 8-1

Only East St. Louis, Kankakee and Glenwood seem likely to be in the southern half of the playoff bracket.

Before Cary-Grove fans get on my case, I have no idea who is going to win this weekend's game with Prairie Ridge. I decided to give the nod to the home team and therefore added a loss to the Trojan's final record, but it won't surprise me if they enter the playoffs unbeaten.

For me, ESL is the prohibitive favorite.

I am assuming (and I know Geneva is an uncertainty) that CG-Geneva-L-Ville will end up on the "north" side of this stupid geographic seeding.

For me, whoever is the home team in the matchup wins the game, so it's CG or Geneva that will represent the "north" region.

ESL should be favorites in that 6A championship game, but we all know that it's only on paper, and the game obviously needs to be played.

Glenbard West question

I’m most familiar with bgyfl. Park ridge falcons are bgyfl but they aren’t dominant. From what I understand the other Park Ridge team that was also named the Falcons but now is something else, is likely taking a lot of the top bgyfl park ridge program’s talent. Weird story there.

I would say the top bgyfl programs: Palatine, Downers, Wheaton. Tri-city usually has a TON of kids at each level but not the most dominant. Elmhurst Eagles are down. I think they lose kids to Bears each year. Bears has a decent amount of Elmhurst kids. It’s a feeder team for IC. Arlington Cowboys is not good, they’ve gotten decimated by the Arlington Dawgs, feeder for Hersey in Pop Warner. Glen Ellyn has some talent but you don’t see them at the highest level very often. They tend to be in d2(between lowest and highest levels of bgyfl).

Your old school bgyfl programs like Bartlett, Carol Stream, Lombard Falcons and Bloomingdale tend to dominate the D2 level. The talent isn’t great. Rarely do they get bumped up to the gold d1 (highest) level. When I was a kid Bloomingdale was unreal. Now? Not so much. Still some talented kids but not enough to dominate.

Sad to see the Hanover Park Hurricanes, a once dominant bgyfl program is no longer in bgyfl. Man when I was a kid they were an awesome program. As others have said demographic changes have shifted that area.

Another once proud program was Bensenville Bandits. They used to be great in the 80s and 90s. Went to KC a few times in pop warner. Bensenville was a blue collar town. Now it has also shifted with less kids coming out and when a kid is really good they end up at IC. Bandits are gone and been replaced by Bensenville Raiders. They were asked to leave by bgyfl after not winning more than a game or two in the entire organization.

Now that I think about it, all of those programs that are down tend to follow the trend where their high schools are these days.

Carol Stream down- GBN down
Bloomingdale down- lake park down
Hanover park gone- lake park down
Bartlett down- Bartlett HS down

Palatine, Wheaton and Downers all very good if you look at the standings of the top teams in each division. Biggest issue is that they all feed into different high schools so the talent doesn’t always get to the same high schools.

They are one of them. It’s gotten really bad in Pop Warner, AYF and UYF. The Elmhurst Bears 13u team is mostly kids from proviso. I don’t know if they even have a kid from Elmhurst.
Bgyfl programs do it right. I don’t know much about tcyfl but it looks like that’s also a solid league. It makes no sense for kids from Kankakee to play for Joliet and kids from Elgin to play for a team out of country club hills. You would think people would realize that these national championships are just a money grab. Not to mention I don’t see how it helps develop players when you are on a team that has kids from all over the Chicagoland area and you’re destroying local teams.
Downers Grove youth program has kids from all over BGYFL Board won’t do anything

ICE Week 5

They've had outstanding facilities since the early 90s thanks to the nuke plant. Football has always stunk because of their culture and loser mentality. I think Cappel had one good year. Johnson 2 good years. Put a silk hat on a pig and it's still a pig.
They have had success in baseball and basketball a few years ago so you know there are athletes there.

Usually two quarterfinal seasons in which being champs didn't seem far fetched, you would expect that to parlay into more success in the future but that doesn't seem to be the case.

What team do you root AGAINST? Why?

Benet controlled our conference in the early 80s but were the largest enrollment school in the conference. So I never liked them.

Detroit Pistons in the late 80s.

Lakers.

Detroit Redwings when they had Probert and I had Blackhawks season tickets

North Stars with Dino Ciccerelli.

USSR Hockey

Danny Ainge

Chicago Sky

The current White Sox

98% Run only HS Football teams. These games end fast and I feel I don't get much bang out of my buck $$$.

Bears Love/Hate Relationshipa

Packers when the Bears are going well. When Bears are playing bad I root for the Packers since they are the closest team to Chicago.

Cavs/Heat/Lakers. You get what I mean. Jordan is the goat.
