What did we learn week 5!?!?!

Realize this was just for fun, but really hope Evanston is not weakest of remaining teams for MS. We were within a score in the 4th quarter the last 3 weeks against heavily favored Palatine, Prospect, and GBS before giving up late scores. Hoping we can start putting 4 quarters together & win a few.
Evanston was much better this year than last, and very gritty. You weren't within a score in the fourth quarter against Palatine, you tied it up. It was 19-7 then all of a sudden it was 19-19.

Something I found interesting, I met someone who moved to Cary and he said that he wanted to move somewhere where his sons would be in a good position to exceed in football as they got older and moved 45 minutes away and bought a house in Cary. Just thought that was interesting
Well, the good news is that CG has other nice things if the kids end up not being very good at football

CS8 Predictions-Week 6

When would that have been? I can't even imagine it now. I mean there has to be some incredible athletes in the halls at Lanphier though. Their round ball team is always top-notch.
I think the CS8's first year was around '92/'93. Very early on, Lanphier beat SHG in the regular season but then lost to them in the playoffs. I believe both games were decided by a single score.

The Lions have produced at least three NBA players. Kevin Gamble and Ed Horton overlapped in the mid 1980's, when they won a state title together. After Gamble graduated, Horton took them to another final. My alma mater stopped scheduling them until after Horton graduated. Andre Iguodala just recently retired after a long run with Golden State and multiple rings.

Does C-G really have another real rivalry other than PR?
I just like non-con games.
Agree C-G/PR seem fine in the closed conference.
No, CG and PR have pretty much been superior for the last 10 years in the FVC. Look up their scores against the other teams. I think we’re all just being selfish and want to see them play good teams early on instead of waiting for the playoffs..lol

I am just not seeing a benefit for the top schools to dump conference rivalries in exchange for games that will better prepare a team for the playoffs that doesn't need to be better prepared, based on playoff results.

CS8 Predictions-Week 5

Relevance? CIMRY got none.

But hey! At least we know you aren't a member of that High Horse (Loser's) Supper Club Cigaros and his buddies pay dues towards. That's a plus!

Should also be noted, the only disgraceful thing I've witnessed yet, is a grown man trying to insult other grown men using abbreviated slang like "u" instead of the really difficult and tough to type out "you" most commonly used. Which you used prior to that point. How embarrassing.
U really got him!!!!!
This continues to be the most bizarre thread week in and week out.

Bears

Should have been...could have been. Whatever. Some of you guys act like the Bears will improve but no one else will.
And you act like no one will regress. Vikings aren't going 17-0, Detroit is about the same as last year, Washington is hot right now but Daniels is still a rookie and will make mistakes.

It's never a guarantee, but I think anything less than 10 wins is a let down.

Bears

Even if they get 10 wins, it's no guarantee they make the playoffs, although there would be a good chance. I am sure you remember Lovie's last year with the Bears. They won 10 games and didn't make it into the playoffs. In 1988 the 49ers and Giants were both 10-6. The 49ers beat the Giants earlier in the year and gained entry. They then went on to win the Super Bowl. So, one never knows.
I know 10 wins doesn't guarantee a playoff spot. Get 10 wins and I will take the chances on them getting in.
20 teams have missed playoffs since 16 game schedule was put in place in '78, for reference.

CG and PR have really blossomed last few years, maybe FVC will do something soon so they can get tougher opponents. Most FVC teams don’t really give them a battle. Few years ago Huntley wanted to climb up with them, but I think it was more of a really good talented group they had, but program has gone back down
This makes the most sense to me, as size and location does not align with balance out here
Not sure what the motivation for the Fox Valley teams would be to split into two five-team divisions.
First of all, the math listed on this forum is wrong: If the plan is non-conference games Weeks 1-2, crossover games Weeks 3-4, then each week 5-9, there will be one crossover game each week, so the actual alignment would be four division games, three crossover games and two nonconference games.
Now, for the "weak" division, there is real danger here. If a team goes 3-1 and wins its division title, goes 0-3 which obviously is very likely against the powerhouse division, and splits its two season-opening nonconference games, it is a division champion with a 4-5 record and does not qualify for the playoffs.
That's a bad situation. Right now, you have teams in the league finishing 4-5 and missing the playoffs. But to finish first in a league and. not qualify for the postseason is just not good.
But here's the other thing. What is the motivation for playing nonconfernce games weeks 1-2. Right now, the schools have rivalry games out the rear-end. And short travel which saves money. And easy travel for the team's fans, which parents surely like.
And there is absolutely no legit argument for saying the Fox Valley Conference top teams would benefit from playing top competition weeks 1-2 as a replacement for two weak conference teams.
How do they benefit? In the last SEVEN years of playoffs, the Fox Valley has had a team playing for the state championship. Not many conferences in the state have that standard of excellence. So clearly, conference play already is preparing the best team for a legit state-championship run.
I am just not seeing a benefit for the top schools to dump conference rivalries in exchange for games that will better prepare a team for the playoffs that doesn't need to be better prepared, based on playoff results.

Bears

They were 2-4 in the division last year and should have won both Detroit games. The Vikings will level off and Detroit doesn't scare me. The Packers will get better, but I don't see any reason why the Bears can't split with each of them.

They were 7-10 last year and should have been 10-7 if not for 3 fourth quarter leads they blew. They are arguably better this year so I don't see how they don't get 10 wins this year.
Should have been...could have been. Whatever. Some of you guys act like the Bears will improve but no one else will.
