St Laurence 14 - DePaul Prep 26 F

Actually, DCP's sophmore class will fill about half of the varsity roster next season, as juniors. That class is projected to carry more talent than former soph classes to the varsity team. The freshmen crop this season carried about 60 athletes and proved ahead in development. This playoff team already rostered 6 freshmen who have seen varsity playoff action.
Correct, and they'll probably be at least 6A next year when it is significantly impacted

Bears

Trending? Well. let's take a look at that. In the last five games the Bears have given up an average of 23.2 points. That is not awful. However, in that same span they have scored an average of 14.6 points per game. I don't care how good your defense is, you are not going to win in the NFL if you're scoring 14 points a game. Again, the defense really isn't the bigger problem.
Like I said…it’s where the bears defense is trending.

Why York has a great chance to beat Loyola….

1. DEFENSE - York’s D has been phenomenal against both the run and pass! They shut down a great running team like Warren and a great passing team like Naperville Central.

2. York’s running game - Last year York was a great passing team with a legit throwing QB and talented WR corp. This year they are once again taking advantage of their personnel and running their QB as he is lightning fast . They will continue to capitalize on zone reads as their QB and RB’s will put Loyola’s defense in conflict. Plus teams are stacking the box to stop the run and that’s creating passing lanes. They are averaging over 300 rushing yards a game in the playoffs and if they do that Saturday they will win!

3. Loyola is down this year - Don’t get me wrong Loyola is still a great team but they are not as good as they were the last two years. They are beatable and now facing a hot York team that won’t be intimidated and knows how to win!

I know many have Loyola as a heavy favorite but York is a very well coached team and those kids BELIEVE!! It will be a great game……
Yeah you can’t go into it thinking you gonna lose. You gotta believe. At least the players and coaches do.
I’d love to see the weekend conclude with a down to the wire game, but I have the Ramblers pulling away. Best of luck.

Why York has a great chance to beat Loyola….

Were they really down or is it more likely that ESL was up? They actually won the 2nd game handily and Fitzgerald was out for the 3rd, so arguably they only truly lost to ESL. The narrative of them starting out down this year is overstated.
I think both things can be true. ESL is a great team and showed that all year. LA is probably not as good as they have been the past few years (at least they didn’t play as well the first few weeks). I think the best LA teams would’ve still found a way to win the SF game even with QB1 out.

Size matters

Per a Post article today,

Patton Leib (6-4, 261) and his fellow linemen work together like a well-tuned machine. Logan Davis (6-5, 318), Broc Rodgers (6-4, 328) Cam Golden (6-2, 312), Justin Wright (6-3, 272) and Chris King (6-2, 331) make up the hulking unit.

Each guy plays considerable minutes each game.

The puts the average size at 6-4 and 303.5 pounds.

Are you sure ESL line is bigger, @LHSTigers94?
Wonder how the big fellas will do at 10am tomorrow when it’s 20 degrees and windy.

Multiplier plus SF?

All.... The SF "penalty" (thank you) is clear. Only a one class bump up from the previous two year enrollment average that establishes a specific class designation. SF supersedes the multiplied enrollment even if a schools has less students.

Now where it gets interesting and I can't imagine this ever happening would be this. Lets say school x has the SF starting the new enrollment average but enrollment has exploded over the two years and multiplied would put them two classes up. Haven't seen Ihsa language but I would assume then the SF is eliminated and they play up two classes. Ratsy P.S. I still believe SHG at the end of the 2025 regular season will end up in 4A. We will see.
Thats right. SF only guarantees a move up 1 slot. If multiplier or enrollment bumps them too, that applies.

Most likely scenario this could come into play is some of the 8A schools who could play 6A with a waiver. Not hard to imagine a Marist making two 6A finals appearances and multiplier brings them to 8A such that SF is moot.

A wrap from a LWE guy.

Us old guys I think don't realize how much things have changed. There is real money now for college players. The NIL $$$ await these kids. This actually has and will continue to have a trickle down effect to the HS game for the top HS recruits. It is why a parent will take and move their kid from one school to another (public or private) if they feel it will help the kid get better - and therefore , get scholarship and NIL money. The old day's still exist "where all the boys have been playing together since they where 8 " in the feeder program and they are best buds ..........but that is less common and for the top programs will be even less common. Bottom line - it is part of the game. We have no idea of what happened in the LWE situation and that situation happens in multiple schools across the country all the time now. Each one is an individual story of that kid and a unique situation that may not be as obvious as we think - but who knows?

York can throw it as well. They have talent at WR. Just haven’t much this year

Happy Thanksgiving you jive turkeys

Here in Lakeview and the girls are “fighting” in the kitchen already … a list for a last trip to the Jewels is growing. Mimosas flowing. Parade on in the background. Grand puppy is drained. Cake from Big Mama’s is breakfast dessert. Could not ask for a better start to a great day!

Happy Turkey Day, ya’all!
