Finals predictions: Closest and Most lopsided title games

This is either the catalyst needed to change IHSA Football, or the sport will continue declining in the state.
These lopsided finals actually aren't a public-private issue. It is the North/South brackets issue as well as a lazy seeding issue.

In 3A, if we seeded 1-32 and actually tried to seed by relative strength and not simply record, then the Byron-Montini second round classic would be our championship game tonight instead of this mismatch of a final.

Not sure what to expect in 4A, but if it's a mismatch, you only need to look back to the North semifinal to see a good game between Coal City and DePaul.

1A Althoff was clearly an outlier and not really a 1A type team.

Public-private is obviously a tough debate with lots of issues to develop any resolution. But for anyone tired of blowouts in the finals, most classes have true championship games being played in semifinals, quarters, or even the second round. It should be near unanimous agreement to get ride of the north/south bracketing and almost as nearly unanimous to support an algorithm or committee seeding the 32 teams in each class and leaving the two best teams on opposite sides of the bracket.

There is nothing controversial or difficult about getting either of those two things done.

Monticello 8 v Montini 49 FINAL

Yah makes for a great “title game.” The next post I’m sure will be from someone stating they don’t deserve to be there. It’s an annual tradition just don’t know why we haven’t seen it yet.
How did you feel about last years 3A game, Byron 69 -7 win over Mt. Carmel?

The problem is the only way to make a change is a formal proposal. There is no other avenue. It’s a problem the IHSA k owes its a problem but unilaterally they can’t impose a change without the membership asking for it.

What's going on with Batavia?

I've been critical of MC's defense this year as it's been different from what MC's fan were spoiled with the past two seasons defensively but let's take a look at the QBs MC faced this season week in and week out.

Hun QB ended up with the second most passing yards in the Nation. Broke New Jerseys All time passing record.

SR QB Steve Armbruster All Conference CCL Green, broke SRs single season passing yard record, played against him 2X this season

Naz QB Logan Malachuk All State, All Conference, CCL Green Offensive Player of the Year, 4 year starter, possible 3x State Champion QB

Iggy QB Jack Wanzung 2024 CCL Blue All Conference 2023 CCL Green Player of the Year

Benet QB Jack Kubacki CCL All Conference, Purple Conference Offensive Player of the Year

BR QB CJ Gray- Hon Mention CCL Blue All Conference

Fenwick Jamen Williams- 1st team CCL White All Conference.

Loyola QB Ryan Fitzgerald- All State, All Conference QB, Big Ten Bound

St. Charles North QB Ethan Plumb- All State, 3X All Conference, 4 year starter, broke numerous records, in Batavias conference and was completely overwhelmed by MCs Defense.

Iron sharpens Iron. I'm not saying Batavias QB doesn't have talent. I watched the LWC game and he made some nice throws and as only Sophomore I'm sure he will have a similar successful career as Ryan Boe did at Batavia. But looking at the QB's MC has had to face this year, he's nothing MC hasn't seen numerous times and I don't think he is their main concern this week.
This absolutely reads like a hater comment because MC has faced better cumulative QB competition than most teams outside of the CCL/ESCC. But to put some context to the accolades as a measuring stick for talent…

There are no honorable mention all conferences and their are no “1st team” all conferences. Iggy passes maybe 8x a game if they are chasing points. 3/4 QBs in Benets division made all conference (same w/ Rita. Somehow SF QB didn’t get it, but coach did give it to their 3 WRs)
