Finals predictions: Closest and Most lopsided title games

I think it would be dope if we took the top 8 and crown 1 champion of the state. That would kill a lot of noise of who’s the “best”. Clearly all the teams that make it to this weekend are very deserving. Some more dominant than others but I would love to see a team like Althoff square off against the winner of 8a. 2a vs 7a…6a vs 3a. 5a vs 4a.. I think there would be a lot of surprises and a very competitive last man standing game…just my two cents..

Bracket Dark Horses (spoilers)

Chicago Christian, the 2A dark-horse pick, rolls to the title. CalPreps had them ranked 6th in 2A prior to the start of the playoffs.
Good call. I really wasn't sure when the playoffs started how good this team was. After we went on the road and beat Tri Valley, I felt we could make the finals. Thanks for the confidence in us ! It's been quite a season.

Finals predictions: Closest and Most lopsided title games

1A - Althoff -28
I REALLY didn’t like the way Lena looked vs Hope’s spread last year. This is hope on steroids.

2A - Chicago Christian - 3
Knights are this years team of destiny

3A - Montini - 42
3a south is no bueno

4A - DePaul - 4
I know nothing on either team. 😉

5A - Naz -3
Best game of the weekend

6A - ESL -4
I REALLY want to pick the Vikings but just can’t.
I’ll set the total points at 87 for this one.

7A - MC -28
I think Lynch has grown quite the distain for Batavia’s “one town one team” motto in protest of private schools and doesn’t call the dogs off.
Bulldogs will never be able to hang with Mt Carmel until they open up their offense.

8A - Loyola - 17
I do love to see a program lose their HC and then go further the next year. But this one will be all Ramblers.
Good call on 2A 😉

Private Schools 7 - Public Schools 1. That’s a wrap!

It is obvious that something needs to change - putting private schools in a seperate playoff would not be a bad idea as other states do it. Publics, especially the smaller ones cannot compete with the recruiting advantages that private have for the most part.
I'd make all the non-tiny privates play at least 6A. A CCL school playing below that level is unfair to the smaller private schools.

1A and 2A traditionally the private schools have struggled. Even this year most of the private schools in 1A were out early.

Althoff was a different beast and certainly the new multiplier waiver format is demoting teams much more aggressively.

Thanks so much guys ! Today really was an unforgettable day for Chicago Christian . Didn't see a 47 -0 game coming . I thought after this playoff run we had, we could hang in with Moroa and maybe pull it out in the 4th quarter. This was basically the same team as last year that lost to Moroa 42-6 in the opening round of the playoffs. With 9 guys going both ways, it was truly a testimony to hard work, teamwork, and outstanding coaching. I really didn't want today to end.

Using the current setup, Montini wouldn't have been #2
Problem is 1/32 seeding using current seeding process woujd have had Plano number 1 and losing to number 14 Montini in semifinals that would still result in Montini wiping out somebody at ISU.
Using the 1/32 system would likely cost the ihsa $$$$ because of long fan travel which kills the gate and the high travel expenses the ihsa would reimburse teams.
If you want Plano vs Montini at ISU then what is needed is a fair solid new way of seeding teams that can pass the ihsa test for fairness and would somehow if used this season had Plano and Montini seeded 1-2 in class 3a.
Good luck with that.
And of course if you have a 1/32 seeding system that has Plano band montini at 1-2, then you are surely going to get even more playoff teams getting clocked in the first two rounds than you are getting now at 1/16 seeding.

Safe to say…

The 2 CCL champions today definitely benefit from playing competition that has them ready for anything they’ve seen in the playoffs.
No doubt! And no discredit to any of them, they played and beat who showed up. The IHSA got the statewide representation they want too, just makes for lesser championship bouts (not champions).
