Well I don't know a ton about York other than they are a heck of a program. But the big question will be can they stop the run because that's all Warren is going to try to do unless they get behind by a lotHow does Warren match up with York.
They had two good runners, not sure which one was the freshman, the guy next to me in Bronco regalia gave me conflicting info, either #3 or #22.Damn I read the star running back for Barrington tonight was only a freshman…ooof put him on your watchlist for next year
Thanks Corey. Just repping the flag ... its all fun ! This is a down year for Warren but the kids are fighting which is typical of a McNulty team. Next year should be interesting. They have a young QB (Soph) that has seen some action. Stewart (JR) and Zay Montgomery (JR) Zay is Warren best skill player, who is out with a knee injury after game 2 or 3. Looking at York everything runs through #1. He is tough and has speed. Warren has speed every where ... will Warren be able to bottle him up and make him throw moving his feet. He wants to run vs throw. But this is HS football it may turn into a defensive battle. It looks like York runs a 3 - 3 - 5 defense (some version of that). Will they change their front line with Warren having a heavy run game. The FLAG !Great game. Happy to see Warren win. Congratulations Newt & Micah! Six Flags is still open!
Sounds like Warren is getting hot at the right time. It’s the Quarterfinals. I see LWE plays Stevenson. I know nothing about them other than they are 10-1. They haven’t announced what time or where it’s being played. Thanks Corey. Just repping the flag ... it’s all fun ! I will be surprised if Stevenson beats LWE. LWE is hard to run on and well coached. Im glad we do not meet LWE in the quarter finals this year. Against Stevenson, Warren tried to throw the ball too much in my opinion which put them behind the sticks. After that game Mac just said we are going to ride Stewart and slow the game down. Let’s see what happens this week. I think everyone can see NSC was a tough conference this year, so all the teams are battled tested. The FLAG !Sounds like Warren is getting hot at the right time. Good luck maybe our two teams will meet up?
They have played against big DT tackles all year. Most teams just fall in the hole or crab rush. When teams play straight up and not try to clog the middle – it gives holes to Stewart. Warren runs a zone blocking system, so they are not trying to drive block. They just mirror you and let Stewart find the right hole. The scheme has been successful over the years. Warren offensive line is not small. They use a two big TE;s to help lead block. You better have more than 1 DT guy. Warren will test all DL’s and LB's. The DB's better be able to tackle when Stewart gets to second level. He is low to the ground, very strong, quick, pretty fast and flexible from being a wrestler. THE FLAG !York didn’t get out of their defense for glenbard west or Glenbrook south so I doubt they do it this week. They have 6’5 260lb nd commit Joe Rieff to anchor the d line. Also besides the qb they have 2 good running backs
I might be wrong but it Doesn’t look like they run a ton of zone. It looks more like power and counter schemes, pin and pull. I don’t think I’ve seen them run any zone schemes. They have played against big DT tackles all year. Most teams just fall in the hole or crab rush. He is one of the slipperiest runners I’ve ever seen. If you can wrap up at the line you’re in good shape but if he gets a bit of speed he’s so tough to hold on to.They have played against big DT tackles all year. Their base run game is zone. Hat on Hat. There is no miss direction. They block with lead blocker sometimes.I might be wrong but it Doesn’t look like they run a ton of zone. It looks more like power and counter schemes, pin and pull. I don’t think I’ve seen them run any zone schemes.
hat on hat isn’t zone though. They go hat on hat with a lead blocker that’s iso blocking. Zone is everyone stepping one way and combo blocking.Their base run game is zone. Hat on Hat. There is no miss direction. They block with lead blocker sometimes.
Ok. I get it. You are right it does not matter. But I know the offense my son played there. I will leave it at that. Should be a good game.hat on hat isn’t zone though. They go hat on hat with a lead blocker that’s iso blocking. Zone is everyone stepping one way and combo blocking.
Honestly I don’t think Warren runs any sort of zone scheme. It’s power, counter iso.
Either way Micah, it is just old school power football. It’s easy to appreciate what they do. They trust what they do well and don’t try to do too much. They make some nice simple play calls too that build off of what they do. Whoever calls the offense does an excellent job.
I could have saved you the time and you could have just read my thread. My thumb is still sore from all the typing and cold weather22 is the freshman rb for Barrington. I’ve been hearing about him for 4-5 years. He’s legit. Not sure how much more he will grow but with that speed? Wow.
I just watched the replay. Wow Barrington fumbled on the goal line! Brutal.
I realize Micah is the ultimate Homer for Warren football and there's nothing wrong with that. however, I've been watching Warren football back to when Micah's son starred there and even earlier than that, as well as the other North suburban conference schools. Warren's quarterback is not a thrower, I don't care what Micah says my son has played against Jack Wolf for years going up through the ranks as well as that running back Stewart. They're both wonderful athletes. they want to run the ball 100% of the time if they can get away with it and when they make it work it is a thing of 1970s football beauty. If this game has to get into Warren throwing it to get back in it it's not going to happen. As you saw yesterday and I mentioned on a different thread when we were prognosticating some of these games Warren has been susceptible all year to big plays even against some of the weak sisters in the conference and you saw it again yesterday with stud players. they are going to have to shore that up or they're going to have a problem. This is not the Warren defense your mommy and daddy grew up with!!hat on hat isn’t zone though. They go hat on hat with a lead blocker that’s iso blocking. Is the Warren RB a big kid?Do you have the Barrington running back stats so far?
Not if you just look at him. But. His legs are tree trunks. Reminds me of Barry sanders. Guessing he’s about 5’8” 180 but wrestles around 160.Is the Warren RB a big kid?
Fair point. But Wolf is serviceable for a HS QB. He just does not have weapons. When Zay Montgomery and Aydan Edward was available .... Wolf look good throwing the ball. Wolf is RAW but good arm and size. If he committed himself to being a QB ... meaning getting a QB coach and playing 7on7 he would be really good. But you are right Warren is a primarily a running team. The last time they threw the ball 20-30 times a game was when Micah and that receiving crew was at Warren. Ian through for 2000+ yards. Hopefully they will gain more balance next year. But in Illinois 8A you do not need to throw a ton to when a state championship. LWE Proved that the year they beat Warren in state final game. Stay tuned for next week game against York.
