Over on the Edgy Nation I was putting my thoughts to keyboard and I said I was good with Nazareth being #2, if not #1. Then as I looked at this past week's results along with the results of the 1st two weeks I realized that I may have incorrect in my placement of LWE & Naz at #1 & #2 in whichever order.
Mike Clark, whom has been covering football since I can remember, called Michigan City the best team in NW Indiana. And we all know out of state teams are better than in-state teams, that's why they're out of state. What does H-F do? Goes on the long trek by horse (once they hit the Indiana border since Indiana is basically back in time) and defeats Michigan City, which is so good they are a whole state in one town.
Then, what do the Vikings do for a follow up? They drive 5 hours south to East St. Louis to face a top team from Missouri, and once again we know that out of state teams are better than Illinois teams. This particular opponent, Lutheran North, boasts several Power 5 recruits including 2 4* and 3 3* recruits and 11 players in the rivals database. That's like having Aaron Bailey, Dale Martin, Deshaun Mallory, Robbie Bain, and Jacob Huff all on the same team with other stars. The Vikings just go out and dominate beating them by 20 which is more than my prior #1 (or 2) Naz beat them by.
Week 3? All they do is win 46-0. For those of us familiar with H-F football, we know they aren't exactly known for defense. However, these last two weeks have them looking like the Steel Curtain.
You won't see a bunch of stars next to these H-F players names on recruiting sites, but you will see a bunch of W's in the win column from playing smart fundamentally sound football. So, I ask, should Homewood-Flossmoor be the state's #1 team?
