The Kickoff Classic Committee today officially announces that it will end all activities effective immediately.
“Over the last 14 years, we have given thousands of High School Student athletes, cheerleaders and their communities the opportunity to play and experience historic venues like Soldier Field, NIU Huskie Stadium and Toyota Park. but the time has come to cease operations. We however, are not here to disappoint students. We will not promise these athletes and their respective communities the opportunity to play in an historic venue only to have the opportunity blocked arbitrarily by other adults for no apparent reason. Our goal was always to make special memories for the student athletes. Disappointment is not one of the memories we care to participate in making.” Said Jim McHugh, Co-founder of the games.
“When we started these games, our goal was to make it a positive experience for the students, their families and their school communities. Over the last 14 years, we have done our best to accomplish that goal. We would like to thank the many volunteers who helped us throughout the years. Without their help, these games would not have been possible. They worked behind the scenes in Time keeping, media relations, public address, athletic Training, promotion all to maximize the experience for the students. Special thanks goes out to Tim LeFevour of SMG, Mike Kelly of the Chicago Park District, Mike “Moon” Mahoney and Sean Frazier of NIU for their generous support. We also would like to thank former Mayor Richard Daley who was instrumental in helping us start these games from the beginning.” Said Co-Founder of the games Frank Lenti.
