Antioch-Grayslake North kickoff
Returner dropped ball somewhere around the 10, and it rolled toward goal line. He tried to grab it again and nudged it over the goal line and into the end zone As he was about to get hit, the ball was batted forward and rolled out around the 3.

Whats the call?

Batting is not always illegal. You are permitted to bat a grounded scrimmage kick toward his own goal line. He can also bat a a pass or fumble in flight

It's not a touchback because, according to what is written here, the player attempting to field the ball changed the impetus of the kick

The muffing of a pass, kick or fumble in flight is not considered a new force.

Touchback.

If the ball was at rest yes, this is still a kick, it’s a touchback. This is an easy one, don’t overcomplicate it

Since many refs here in the thread...is a tied bandana allowed again. I was told probably 5 years back now that it was not and was considered illegal equipment. However, I see then week in and week out Amazon product ASIN B08CZY4FK6

Great answer.. As they say "A kick is a kick until the kick ends" And when does it end ?
So, is that to say, it's a different call if he actually caught it and dropped it after a full catch?

And, at college/pro, with no auto touchback in the endzone, how does the bat forward out of the endzone change?

If he caught and possessed it then the kick is over and you’ve got a fumble so the ball would still be live when it entered the end zone. In which case a bat forward would be a foul enforced from the spot, in this case in their own EZ resulting in a safety.
On Saturdays and Sunday’s the ball would stay live upon entering the EZ due to the touch in the field of play, but he could still fall on it for a touchback However if he batted from the EZ then you’re again looking at a safety just like Friday night

If we can't see the tail, nothing to call. If we see it tell the to remove it. Just like earrings , illegal but with a helmet it we usually can't see it.

Easiest way to solve it. At the pregame the head coach verifies that his players are legally equipped to play the game. First violation warning to the head coach, second a 5 yard penalty on the head coach. Third violation 15 yards on the head coach. Watch how fast all the BS with the uniforms stop.
