1. Lincoln-Way East (Seems to be the best in a conference that has won three of the last four 8A championships)
2. Loyola (Defending champion of the best conference in the state.)
3. Maine South (Close last year, and seems poised to make another run.)
4. Marist (Any team from their conference cannot be ruled out.)
5. Lockport (Lost some key players, but the defending champion deserves some consideration.)
6. Warren (Their defense will keep them in every game.)
7. Neuqua Valley (The school and program are too solid to keep coming up short in the playoffs.)
8. Glenbard West (Could this be a resurgent year?)
9. Palatine (They have some talent.)
10. Glenbard North (Tough team is always worth some consideration.)

Consequently, in my view only Glenbrook South and Hinsdale Central drop out; to be replaced by Glenbard West and Palatine.

If you are taking Hinsdale Central out, then the only West Suburban team to replace them with is York, IMO. Having watched last years sophomore games between GBW, HC and York, and having watch the Varsity games - York is bringing the most talent group of Juniors. GBW, I believe, continues to live on reputation alone. The last time they won the conference was 2019.

You spelled Da Brook wrong😂
With Coach Czart being a Raider I and we take pride in his success. And with Lockport being one of the favorites we will take the hockey assist as we continue to 'Honor the Raider' wherever we are.

But when was the last time any other team in the Silver did anything on the playoffs besides GW and even they have been bounced early almost every year they have been in 8A. HC gets “upset” every season in the playoffs. None of the Silver deserves to be in the top 10. Maybe after week 1 if GW beats Marist or HC beats NC.

Fair point about the playoffs and WSS as a conference. However, this board loves to live on “tradition” and “reputation”. Rarely is there an objective look at the particular team that will be on the field THIS year.

I agree - HC isn’t in my pre season top 10. But York is. Why? Because I’ve seen them play over the last few years, and I’ve payed attention to what is in their pipeline. If I’m just rating the WSS for what I have witnessed, I think it’s York & HC, then GBW, LT, and DGN, OPRF, and a big gap to Proviso West. Both HC and GBW sophomores lost to York last year, and York’s Varsity was the youngest (junior heavy) of the three. This is just my opinion, and the argument I was trying to make. I take maybe the two previous seasons into account - as, again IMO, anything beyond that is pretty irrelevant to this years players who have to perform on the fiel

I’m sure I’m like most others on the board - I know the home conference the best, and I rely on other posters and contributors to inform me on their home conference. Once I remove some of the homer-ism, I can get a somewhat fair assessment. That’s why I also ask if you are removing a team, then who are you replacing them with?

Almost all the rankings rely on previous season and reputations unless there is a large set of transfers in or out. Ultimately York didn’t really beat anyone any good last year and got upset at home in the playoffs. Willowbrook or Glenbard West were their best wins and those teams had 3 and 2 regular season losses. Until a Silver team gets to the 8A quarterfinals then none of the teams deserve to be ranked in the top ten during the regular season so the earliest they can do that is 2024.

My 8A ranking for this year? Easy
1. Neuqua Valley

(and the rest don’t matter cuz if you’re not first, your last)

(yes I’m goofin around for those of you who know me, it’s me! POPS! I’m back for another season of REALLY funny, slightly biased😉, and incredibly creative posts…. Then, as many of you have told me, I will most likely vanish into the wind and these sacred forums will be here “long before me and long after I’m gone. Edgy Tim, good sir, thank you for this vehicle you’ve created so that a bunch of dads, grandpas, armchair QBs, has-beens, wish-they-had-beens, and of COURSE actual expert analysts such as your self.. it truly is a usually welcoming environment, once people stop making fun of you for being a “daddy baller”😂😂😂😂)

so all, let the GAMES BEGIN! Super excited for another fantastic season of IHSA football, and Neuqua Valleys FIRST state championship!!!!😂😂😂😂😂

(remember I’m very sarcastic but not really kidding…🤪)

HF suffers blow with Maurice Densmore transferring to Maine South...if this was known news I’m sorry.
