I m writing this before Saturday night semi KO so it’s just still an educated guess but I am thinking that next weekend the brilliant qbs at Lincoln-Way East and Mt.. Carmel are going to lead their teams to dominating wins in the state finals.
based on their current college choices, it is obvious that the junior qb and Oregon commit from L-W East is considered a better collegiate prospect than the Vanderbilt commit from Mt. Carmel.
I have no problem at all if the L-W East qb winds up as player of the year.
That said, nobody is more valuable to his own team than the Mt. Carmel qb.
There might be players at other schools with off-the-chart stats, but the Mt. Carmel qb is in this view, more important to the success of his team than any other player in the state, especially when you consider the competition he faces every weekend.

Come on. They have plenty of talent on that roster. He is a great player but others are performing as well with less talent around them.

I get your point but I look at it this way:
1) the team’s running game only works because he is such a dynamic threat as a runner. The game he missed and when he first came back from injury and was seemingly not as aggressive with his runs then the ground game disappeared.
2) the team defense has been torched several games this season putting the
Pressure to score on virtually every possession squarely on the QB’s shoulders.
3) there has to be an enormous amount of pressure to win at Mt.Carmel yet the qb performs as though he thrives under that pressure.
I totally get that there are other great players on teams that would be ordinary without them.
But Mt. Carmel love them or hate them, is likely a top 5 team in the state out of 500 programs this year and the qb is the reason that is so.

Why does college prospect factor in at all to player of the year? Who plays the best and has the most impact to his team? That is the key to a HS player of the year.

At this point I see Fitzgerald or the RB from Loyola ahead of everyone.
