What an amazing defensive battle tonight was. Both the defenses were up to the task. Warren’s Run defense reminds me of Loyola in 2009. Big, fast, great tacklers, and aggressive. 8A teams better be able to pass the ball because you will not run on these guys. That is a fact. Maurice Edwards for Warren is an absolute stud. The paper said 27 carries it seemed like 40. He will rush for 2,000 yards and probably will win POY. But the problem for them is he is their offense. Shut him down and you win the game.
MS defensively was lights out too. they gang tackled and did not give Up a big play all night. Offensively we had one big play and that was all we needed. It’s early in the year and it will be interesting to see when we get to play them again in the playoffs.

Huge win MS! Playing on the road and holding a Warren team to 0 offensive points. Who has the best defense? Great win MS! Wheres MJ? LMAO

Tough to say. Against the run I would say Warren. But MS is not far behind. Also Warren did not have much of a passing game so again that’s why it’s tough to say. Both looked playoff ready yesterday.

Fantastic atmosphere and unbelievable intensity for a week 2 non conference game. Both teams were extremely physical and this was one of the hardest hitting high school football games I can remember seeing. Something tells me these two teams will see each other again before this season is over.

Kudos to Warren on a game well played. The defense performed as advertised on one of the states best aerial attacks. The Maine South offense seemed a bit off the entire game. Probably a combination of the Warren D, way to many penalties and starting 1st and 15 time and time again. The Maine South D played lights out. They contained and frustrated one of the states top running backs, put intense pressure and sacked the Warren qb over and over and had countless stops on 3rd and short as well as 4th down. Overall, it was am amazing playoff type game that should make us proud to be part of Illinois football!

Great point about the penalties! I totally forgot to mention them. I wouldn’t want to be them on Monday. Bring your running shoes boys!

These are the 2 best teams in the Chicagoland area IMHO. If Warren can develop a solid passing game, it’s going to be hard to beat them. Great game by both squads.

It’s tough to develop a passing game during the year it’s either something you have or you don’t unless there are kids that aren’t currently on the field you can add to the mix.

Just a couple thoughts from the game last night.

Both defenses are elite. The level of physical play was off the charts. Physical, but clean. Not a lot of yapping - clearly two programs that have a ton of respect for each other.

I like the MS QB but he was under pressure a lot. Surprised they didn’t try and run more to lighten the number of shots he took.

Warren is in week two of a new offense so the growing pains week 1/2 have been evident. It didn’t help that they faced a stud defense.

I think the passing game can evolve but that will have to come with better play from the O Line.

There are lots of very talented coaches at Warren so I’d expect they will get it solved.

Clearly these two teams are on elite level and the intensity was a second round playoff game level last night. Kinda missed that last year.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see these two meet again in November.

Two very talented teams. I think MS is who they are now, meaning don't think much will change with them over the season. They could use CP a little more on offense but the aerial attack is very tough to defend. If Warren can add a receiver or 2 the aerial attack should take off. Their QB can throw and run so I would say if Warren improves on offense they will be the bigger threat deep in the playoffs. Warren also missed more opportunities than MS in the game on Friday...

I agree and disagree. I agree that if Warren adds a dimension to the offense they will make a deep run in the playoffs. I disagree that MS will not change. That is one of the strengths of the program. Developing players and changing as the year goes on.

Sorry I missed you Friday. Agree with both your points.

I don’t think MS will face a defense like Warrens until the playoffs. Same thing with Warren.

That can be a blessing and a curse for both teams.

The only two areas I see MS needs to improve is their running game (didn’t see it much Friday but that might just be circumstances) and penalties.

What really surprised me was the 9 false start penalties - May have been fewer but seemed like that many.

For Warren I think it’s also two things- line play on offense and receiver play. I think it starts with the line giving Lucero time to throw. He’s a big, strong and tough kid. He can make the throws and I think you’ll see them work on that as the season progresses.

I think if they can incorporate their TE into the passing attack, that adds a dimension that would make that offense really tough to slow down.

Wouldn’t be surprised if these two teams meet again. I think MS has the chops of a championship team.

Yeah I was looking for you! Never can I remember a game being penalized so much. Seriously in the twenty years I have been involved I can't remember a time where the team was so undisciplined.

Yah me either. A lot of very strange calls on both sides. Game struggled for good rhythm at times. At some point, let the kids play.

I was also wondering why MS didn't try to run more often as well. I don't know if it was Warren's reputation on defense or if they are still trying to develop cohesion with the O line. They are more than capable with Mike Sajanko in the backfield. They only ran him 9 times I believe in the first game against Stevenson. A running game is a must for a deep run in the playoffs imo. Coach Bliss gets the benefit of the doubt and surely knows what he's doing, but many of us are still waiting for the running game to develop for those late October/November weekends.
