Michigan and Iowa both released statements that at this point they plan to move ahead as scheduled to play HS football in the fall. No talk of a delayed start or shortened season, start on time and full slate of games. Hope that Indiana and Wisconsin follow suit as that would put pressure on Pritzger and the state of IL. With better positivity rates and higher % of ICU beds and ventilators in IL, no reason we can’t play football if all surrounding states are playing

As much as I hope you are right with Illinois being pressured....nothing I've seen during all of this will take the governor off his schedule....and again as much as I don't want to admit it....it's worked so far compared to many other states....

Agree Edgy that Illinois has done a good job, we have flattened the curve and we have healthcare capacity to handle 3-4 times the amount of cases currently. Pritzger's Phase 4 states kids can go back to playing sports. High School Kids have had "unorganized" practices for the last two months, youth kids playing in baseball, lacrosse, and hockey tournaments as well. Kids are not getting it from playing sports, the teens that are getting Covid are getting it from parties and being irresponsible socially. Pritzger has claimed that Illinois has the best Covid numbers in the midwest, better then Indiana and Wisconsin. In your opinion, how could he justify not allowing kids to play football (or other contact sports) when all the surrounding states are allowing it and have much worse numbers?

Allowed and actually playing a season are two totally different things...and the way things are regressing outside of the high school sports (see college sports/football in particular) world tells me we won't see things greatly improving anytime soon. I would rather make a decision now than stringing us all along.

I would not get too excited about this. The statement, Michigan's at least, addresses a best-case scenario plan. MHSSA has also has stated they may delay the season or move it to the spring if they are not able to start on August 10th, which they may not given the stages some Michian counties are in.

I guess the IHSA can come out with a statement saying if everything is perfect the season will start on time, but it will do very little to actually guarantee a full season.

Totally get it and agree w/ you. Was hoping w/ the news of Michigan and Iowa committing to high school football this fall, and Indiana and Wisconsin most likely doing the same, thought what was offering some hope that Illinois would follow suit. Did not want to make this a political discussion, just hope that info helps our case to let the boys play football in Illinois!

It is also only July 18th a lot could change in the next few weeks. I have already seen several schools reopening plans change in a few days.

I don;t see how schools that are going to remote learn for the start of the year for safety reasons. Are then going to allow all of these athletes on the campus at the end of the day!! Seems naive to me.

You just answered your own question. JB claims to have better numbers by pushing his plan. Letting kids play contact sports jeopardizes HIS success rate. There will be no fall football.

One thing I’ve learned in the Military and the Police, you can have the perfect plan but Murphy’s Law always comes into effect. If you don’t know what Murphy’s Law is, just Google it. As of right now teams are practicing so I’m thinking they plan to play too...

Or maybe teams are emulating George Costanza. Just like he assumed he got the job and took the Penske file, if teams practice they can assume they’re playing.

In the USA the life expectancy in 78.4 years old and median death age of Covid cases is 80 years old. Who are we really protecting by closing down schools? Kids are being damaged to try to protect people who are already in the bonus years of life. Ask you pediatrician how bad this has been on kids they are being inundated with young kids showing signs of mental illness.

Mental health issues and substance abuse use among youth has been alarmingly trending up for years. The article linked below stated, "From 2007 to 2016, pediatric ED visits for all mental health disorders increased by 60% in the United States."

While I am sure a global pandemic did not help matters, COVID-19 is not the root cause of these issues. Moreover, playing football this fall and in-person instruction is not going to address these issues for many kids.

If Michigan and Iowa jumped off a cliff, should Illinois follow?
They are doing little to stop thugs, rioters & looters & not saying anything about all of them trying to destroy statues & fight police so let them have football.

Ever been involved with a hot craps table?
Yes and that was definitely a full contact event. It was nuts.

That was at the Harrah's Casino in Reno. I hated Reno (not at all like Vegas) but I'll never forget that grouping of about 16-18 consecutive rolls at the craps table. One full lap around the 16-18 players involved, all great rolls. Harrah's ended it by closing the crap table. The Casino took a bath that day.

I'm pretty confident they made that table into firewood right after closing it. :D

You have to understand. Reno isn't a gambling and shows and entertainment place like Vegas is. But outside gambling and entertainment, there is a hell of a lot more to do in Reno if your interests are wide. I love that place. I love Lake Tahoe and there a lot to do there alone. But, I am not a big gambler, never have been, which is why Reno fits my needs more. We are outdoor people. So, hiking, riding horses, going out on the lake and doing much more outside is what we want. Plus, Reno has some very good town festivals. We have gone to the casinos at night. I like it, but for me, I have no idea how someone could spend all day there. Of course, if you're winning, I understand. But, in the end, you probably won't.

With all that said, for me it's, "to each his own."

Quick funny story about my one and only Reno trip.

A friend at work talked me into to trying Reno so I set up a trip for mid March. Oh stupid me, thought Reno must be the same climate as Las Vegas so I packed nothing but shorts and light T-shirts for the trip.

Yeah it was snowing the 1st day I got there and I learned the hard way that it's right by the Lake Tahoe which was still open for Ski season in March. I got some really funny looks walking around in shorts and a T-shirt with everybody else wearing heavy winter coats. That was a harsh Geography lesson. o_O

I took my Vegas trips mainly just for gambling, not much for sites and shows.

I mainly play craps but dabble in other games. 22-27 years ago I took around 4 trips per year of 7 days each to Vegas gambling or about 140 days total gambling over a 5 year period (before I got married & my daughter was born). I kept very close tabs on my money throughout those 5 years. I cannot say I came out ahead but I can honestly say I didn't lose a single dime either. So I consider that a Huge Win and got lots of comps for gambling so the trips were dirt cheap. Each trip only cost a few hundred dollars after comps and really enjoyed those trips.

Sure there were some trips I lost 2-3 thousand dollars but their were some trips I won 2-3 thousand. It all worked out to exactly even within $100 total after about 20 7 day trips to Vegas over 5 years. Contrary to that, the local Casinos like the Joliet Riverboats were money grabs. I could never go to those and have much success. you're just pissing your money away and the comps are almost nonexistent.

Oh yes. Going to Reno in March? Better pack the warm gear. Going in May can be dicey too. That's usually when it rains most. We have been there several times. I have no reason to go to Vegas because I don't gamble. Not that kind of gambling, anyway. It looks like you did make out. One thing I did like about the gambling were the free drinks. Yeah, there are lots of stuff they "give" away. I did enjoy myself and I really didn't lose much either. I have never been to the local boats. No interest.

If you ever do get back to Reno, go in July or August. Hot days, dry heat and cool nights. It's nothing for the temp to go from the mid 90s during the day down to the low 60s or 50s at night. As soon as that sun goes behind the mountains in the evening, the temp starts to drop and sometimes like a stone. For instance, I just looked at my Sun Times and I see the high in Reno today will be 98 and the low will get down to 66. I don't much care for the stifling humidity we have here. But, it is what it is.

We went in July a few times. It was near 100 at the beach in Tahoe. But the water was around 55 degrees. That lake is 1500 feet deep and as you know, the water is melted snow from the mountains. Well, me being me, I never ever test water before I jump in whether it's a pool or the ocean or gulf. I just run right in and take a dive. I tried that at Lake Tahoe. That water was so cold it was a shock and took my breath away. I stayed in it for a while though. It wasn't easy.

I think Reno is a blast to fly into. Up in those mountains, that aircraft bumps around quite a bit as the landing approach occurs. And the landing is usually a little rougher than normal. I love listening to people freaking out when it happens. LOL!

Spent a month in Reno after high school graduation - a great place! Worst sunburn ever - napped in a hammock in Tahoe ... only the frigid melted mountain water made my skin feel better. Mo more water skiing after that - could not put on the wet suit.

Oh Damn, you're going to make me tell another story of the flight during my one and only Reno trip. But not right now, it's a pretty good story. :D

Tell it when you get the opportunity. :) But if it's not about people getting the hell scared out of them, forget it. LOL!
