I’m excited for the latest chapter in the rivalry. I’m not on the inside at all, but it seemed to me that Maine South was the bar against which LA measured itself as it was building its program to the current state. Even with some nice LA wins in the interim, the final 5 minutes of the 2010 quarters will haunt me to my grave.

Calpreps says LA by 15. I don’t buy it as I think the MS quarterback can do some damage against the LA defense. Could be a high scoring affair. I think it’s a pick ‘em.

This should be a good one!

My first year when we moved to Park Ridge was 2016 when we beat Loyola for our last title.

Took my 6 y/o to the game yesterday and the Hawks offense was just rolling. I know that Loyola is a different level but the offense looks so dangerous with Purcell leading. The first TD toss was a beauty but overthrew just a few deep balls later in the game.

One game at a time but this should be a good one. I'm biased towards the Hawks but I don't see this one being a 15 point game.

Correct. And now LA is the bar. Hollywood leads the playoff series 5-4. That 2010 semifinal will go down as a top five game in MS history. I think it lasted 40 minutes. That 2 point conversion for LA was one of the best calls I've seen a team make. The current teams I'm sure will hear the stories all week about the bad blood between the two teams. Good luck!

Yes it brings me back to little over a decade ago when everything was still right in the football world. And in 2011 everyone was waiting for the next installment, including me, and Stevie ruined the party.

Fortunate to have had 2 MS sons play against LA over the years, including twice in 2016 - one loss at LA and one win at Univ of IL. MS Def will likely be the reason we either win or lose in 2024 since both Offs are very capable at scoring, and have big men up front. Will be great to watch this rivalry again on Sat at 1:30, and hope LA coaches once again see the Red Herring vs Hawk talent of our team. Prediction MS 38 - LA 28, pre-party at Meiers, post-party at Stormys.

Oh man your son was on the team that beat Palatine in 2016. Was a great game that day.

Yep, he was the one who ‘unfortunately’ injured their all-state LB on a MS kickoff. No intention to injure, just a big hit and losing that LB was arguably the turning point of the game.

Man that was a big hit. It was a football play, no big deal. I would say the turning point was putting jarvis at nose. That absolutely changed everything. Also, the td at half. Could have been 7-7 going into half. Coaches were trying to sub in the taller corner and before they could call timeout they threw it up to that tall receiver.

Jarvis and Skoronski both were on that team. Jarvis’ dominance on both sides was unreal, as well as the older brother of today’s Kokosoulis. Similar # of college-bound MS talent then as today, just not as elite (yet) but some with very high ceilings and they keep getting better together. MS QB Coach was that team’s starting QB, and his wisdom will be critical now.

Both of you are correct but I would have to say the turning point was the week prior against ND.

Actually, I think the turning point came two weeks prior when Palatine's quarterback Oles, broke his collarbone late in the game against Notre Dame.

Get to Meiers early ! I think this is a defensive battle for sure and defense wins you Championships. I like the Rambler chances in this one. But Main South is Main South and I am sure Coach Inserra will have the Hawks ready to go. The fact MS made a change mid-year in the QB must mean they really like him. It has been a while since these two programs have played a game like this and glad to see it happen - given the great games of the past. For either team not a walk in the park.

Well, it was a payback hit. Cortez had a tendency to head hunt on kickoffs and nailed somebody on MS earlier. Both hits were fairly blind sided, but if you’re gonna do it gotta expect to get it back.

MS with a favorable path to this point. Defense is suspect, think LA will roll. LA far better team now than earlier in the season.
Or maybe the teams they struggled with early are pretty good. Looking at the last couple of games, I see the same team that was good from the start. Having your state champ QB is always a plus.

I think both can be true.
Early losses were to really good teams and they seem to be playing much better football of late.
Absolutely. Lost to two really good teams. I think we all agree that the best coached teams/programs improve the most as the season progresses. And Loyola is one of them. Their big win over MC a few weeks ago is proof. And MC will most likely win 7a.

That was a pretty darn good NN team who only lost to two quarterfinalists when we played them. You are correct the defense has been suspect at times. It will be a tall order to beat Hollywood on Saturday. But I do know the MS staff will have them ready.
Hopefully they can execute.

LA beat MC last year and both won state. MC and LA both have more losses this year compared to the last couple of years. They also played a very tough schedule this year.

Came in Week 4 against Barrington, a loss, but hasn't lost since. Purcell, a good Irish name. Jameson Gold, a whisky as smooth as your girlfriend's inner thigh.
Depends on which decade you were referring to with the smooth inner thigh if you are a man of the '70s and '80s things weren't so smooth if you know what I mean! 😂

Both MC and LA are much better teams than they were at the start of the season. Hell, MC is not the same team that lost to Loyola a few weeks ago. Everything is magically coming toether for the Caravan.

After watching that MC-LA game it is going to be a tall order for the Hawks to win. Hope it happens!

Don't look back to the Carmel game. MC was off that night. You can and should take encouragement from the Marist game. Your new gunslinger is ready for a duel in the sun.
