The 2025 season in Class 8A will feature Lincoln-Way East, Mt. Carmel and Loyola.
Obviously, we already know that MtC and Loyola will play each other which means somebody has to lose.
Given that these teams seemingly try to schedule elite-level competition in early-season games, it's certainly possible — and I am just making this up; it is not a prediction — that L-WE could go 9-0, Loyola could go 7-2 and MtC could go 7-2.
The point is that it's conceivable that all three teams could wind up in the same half of the 8A bracket next October, which means one of the three would have to beat the other two teams just to earn a spot in the finals at ISU.
Some on this forum were really unhappy that Montini vs. Byron was a second-round game in 3A this fall. Imagine L-WE vs. Mt. Carmel in the quarterfinals, with that winner drawing L-WE in the semifinals, all of which is prelude to the "survivor" clocking some unlucky opponent in the grand finale at ISU.
Could that scenario move the IHSA off the current seeding system? And if it does, what is the replacement?

I'm pretty doubtful it end ups being some last stand. It impacts an exceedingly small % of IHSA membership.

You don't need to imagine it as it just happened (and as @Snetsrak61 stated, not too many actually cared). An 8-1 CCL team played a 7-2 CCL team in the 2nd round of 8A this year. The winner met LWE in the semis. Assuming LA and MC continue to seek out new challenges in weeks 1 & 2 and continue to play each other every year in conference play this scenario is in fact quite predictable. I'd assume a majority of the 8A community are more than OK with such an outcome.
