IHSA Top 50 Programs

100 wins is 100 wins ... and when has PR ever played above their weight class? Woeful Huntley does not count.
And 6.5 wins a year vs 8 wins a year? And 21 of 27 years in playoffs vs 26 in 50? Keep ignoring that you lied and said there's multiple schools with less wins than althoff above them when there's only one, with better numbers in half the time. Go back to counting your D1 players and we can lol about your weight classes, 1a quarterfinalist.

We see it differently.

I guess you should have beat the best them

Top 10

JCA
MC
ESL
Providence
Loyola
SHG
Morris
Maine South
WWS
Geneseo
All.... That is a pretty cool list you pondered and came up with. I can confirm one and they are under 10. Should produce even more interesting replies when that particular school gets listed. Ratsy

Who cares who you play in the regular season? As long as you're the last team standing at the end.

Great, Althoff has played and beat some larger schools, so what? Did they get a trophy for beating an 8A team in the regular season?
8A = Belleville West LOL

Camp Point Central = better than Althoff

RE: Morris - tons of credit for being a bridesmaid. Respect the program tons, but not sure they get a top 10.
Will be close. I can see them being in the 10-15 range, but can still make the argument for top 10.

Using your logic they will definitely be top 10 since they regularly played above their weight and challenged themselves in the regular season.

Let's say it plainly, Althoff's 50 years of history is better than PR.
The issue for Althoff is consistency, which I think the IHSA is weighing heavily. Althoff has had too many ups and downs through the years.

Last year was the 2nd year in a row that Althoff made the playoffs, but in the 3 years prior, not including the COVID season, they went 7-20. They won back to back titles in '89 and '90, but in the 4 years after that they went 16-20. Then made the playoffs in '95 and '96, but followed that up with another 4 year stretch where they went 15-20.

Want to be ranked higher, win on a consistent basis.

I think it’s cool that the top 2 will be revealed during the championships.

Anyone know if the top 5 is already set, or will the results of this season influence the top few teams?

I assume the top 3 are JCA, Mt. Carmel and ESL in some order.
Interesting fact. WHEATON WARRENVILLE SOUTH all time is
I like your list, but I'd also add LWE. They have made 24 straight playoff appearances every single year of their existence.
interesting fact Wheaton WARRENVILLE South all time is 5-0, vs JCA, 5-0 vs ESL and 1-2 vs MC. ALL games were in the playoffs and or championship games. Not bad for public school team!

At least one of the WWS-JC games was a regular season one. WWS beat JC fairly handily in week 2 of 2008.

It would be cool if one day they publish the formula or what matters most in these rankings maybe they have and i just haven't seen it.

From the IHSA site:

members were provided historical data on approximately 200 programs in each sport, which they voted on to whittle it down to the Top 50 list.

“The raw numbers don’t always tell the true story in Illinois high school sports,” said IHSA Assistant Executive Director Matt Troha. “We could have used a formula to name the Top 50 programs, where state championships are worth a certain number of points and postseason wins are worth a certain number of points, but I really don’t think that would have truly reflected the history of IHSA girls volleyball and football. Given the geographical format of IHSA tournaments, there are many programs who never won a state title, likely because they continually ran into another program on our Top 50 list in their geographic area. On the flip side, other programs certainly benefitted from class expansion, winning multiple state titles in short periods of time. There are always going to be programs that have garnered the utmost respect of opposing coaches, regardless of what the numbers say. We asked our committee members to use their lived experiences to tell us what programs belonged on the lists.”
