NIU received an early 2018 verbal commitment from Danville 2018 OL Julian Pearl (6-foot-7, 245 pounds). Pearl, who played TE and DE for the Vikings and head coach BJ Luke has a ton of upside and I'm expecting several other schools to continue to pursue Pearl. Pearl also is a standout basketball plater for the Vikings this winter
Pearl doesn't have a specific Hudl 2016 highlight but linked is his Hudl page and below is one game highlights
My Take On Julian Pearl? I had a chance to see Pearl live earlier this season against Peoria. Pearl as you can tell is a very tall, lanky and pretty athletic multi-sport kid. Pearl played TE and DE yet with his overall size, length and frame getting to say 280-290 pounds won't be a big reach for him. Pearl runs well, has good overall hands and ball skills and is a very raw kid with a ton of potential and upside.
Early commit to NIU? I have no doubt that the Huskies are going to have to fight off several schools to retain Pearl here. Pearl as you can see below has very limited tape yet once college coaches stop and see him in person the offers will flow.
Pearl overall? I would rank him to start as a mid 3 star with some real upside over the next 12-18 months. I would not be shocked to see say mid tier Big Ten caliber offers to also flow in this spring. Danville High was just added to several coaches agenda's for this spring.
