Linked is a quick thumbnail of what was passed by the NCAA on Friday. Also expect them to vote on and pass an early Signing Period that will be in Mid December.

CSN: NCAA passes recruiting reforms

So what does this all mean for recruits and parents etc.

Earlier Official Visit period

Earlier official visits was a no brainer since so many kids/families are already driving across the country. Also NCAA wouldn't pass earlier official visits without an earlier signing date which is expected to be voted on and passed in June. Mid December is expected to be the football early signing date.

Also the whole early visits/signing benefits both Northern located schools (Big 10/ACC etc) and also school that have more stability especially in it's coaching staff.

Perfect example? Northwestern. Northwestern can now bring in kids for official visit from say Texas or Florida now in say May/April as opposed to say January....a much easier sell in June. Also a staff like Northwestern has been in place for years and gets a ton of it's pledges who early commit...the early signing period now allows schools to technically wrap up a large part of it's recruiting class in December and avoid it's kids getting tempted until Signing Day in February.

Shortened Summer One Day Camp Time Frame

Now the biggest negative for kids/parents? The just passed shortened camp timeframe. FBS schools (D1) now only have one 10 day period in June to host and attend camps only held on NCAA campuses or approved NCAA facilities for evaluations a big change from last year's 2 15 days periods in June and July. Also gone are the third party satellite camps such as last year's Lake Park satellite camp sadly comes to an end this summer.

The shortened time frame also jams in so many camps into the same time kids (especially seniors to be) have a much smaller audience of coaches and opportunities to be seen. This also impact poorer families since the satellite camps no question cut down on travel expenses. Kids and families will need to be very selective in what camps they attend starting this summer to say the least. Also...the need for Power 5 schools to now attract even more top level sophomore and juniors to be will increase even more now than ever before.

A big part of the shortened calendar in the summer was based on a large part of getting college coaches off the road and allow them an actual dead period and basically force them off the road....a positive for college coaches no question.

Also important to note...while the new camps rules and time frame effects FBS (D1) schools....FCS (formerly 1AA) are still allowed to host camps in June and July which is a positive.,...and I fully expect those FCS level camps to draw much bigger numbers because of these changes especially the July camps.

Stricter rules in hiring IAWP's

IAWP's? Stands for Individual Associated With Prospect basically eliminated schools hiring a prospects coach/handler/AAU coaches to anything position other than a full time coaching position. Schools had been hiring various IAWP's in consultants or strength coaches etc and this rule makes it very clear that any IWAP's can only be hired as full time coaches only.

Limiting scholarships to 25 per team in any recruiting class

Basically a rule that eliminated schools "over-signing" any one year's recruiting class. Also basically cuts down considerably schools who more heavily "greyshirt" players. Greyshirting is when schools brings in a recruit in a class, make them pay for the fall semester or even "sit out" that semester then they are added onto the follow year's signing class scholarship totals.

Longer summer dead period

Again this will take effect for the Class of 2019 and gives coaches more opportunities to take an actual vacation/break in the summer months as opposed to being on the road all summer. The new dead period time frame will run from all of August and a large portion of July.

my son just got an email advising the Gately Chicago Showcase June11 was cancelled due to new NCAA rules, does anyone know if other showcase type camps will be cancelled such as Lake Forest, etc...??
