Chicago State is moving forward with football Head Coaching search

Agreed.

BUT, where are all the D2 athletes from Wisconsin currently going with no D2 school in the state other than Parkside (which has no football program)? It does make me wonder how WIAC schools would do if they did move up to D2. Take Whitewater for example. Take all those football kids who would go to Whitewater regardless of whether they were D2 or D3, give a partial ride to the best of the best of them, and then enroll some D2 talent from within the state and from surrounding states who would have otherwise gone to other D2 schools. In a scenario like that, they would probably be pretty darn competitive within all of D2, don't you think?
I think a lot of the Wisconsin kids go to Minnesota D2’s. The drive around the lake is a killer to go to the Michigan D2s

I don't see how Chicago State will pull this off. Good chance that no local high school coach will take the challenge. IMO it might work only if they hire a well-known local name, and the best high school coaches like Lynch, Lenti, Racki, Zvonar, and Inserra aren't about to make the move to college. That leaves Fitzgerald, who’s tainted given what happened at Northwestern.

Then there's the not-so-small matter of finding places to practice and play. I saw talk here about Eckersall and Gately, but are they equipped and suited for the demands of college football? I don't think so. Maybe Eckersall because of its size, but certainly not Gately.

This is the very definition of a football Hail Mary. CSU is trying to stay open, but unfortunately I don't see it happening.

Jeff Thorne would be a great fit as well.

This is still one of the dumbest football ideas I have heard in a while.

Its a waste of money, resources and time on a project that has no chance of success. Just for reference, the men's basketball team has not had a winning season since the 2008-09 season.

And this is for a school that has less than 2,500 total students.

Agreed. They built a beautiful turf baseball field, then cut baseball 4 years later citing cost-cutting. Ugh.

Is that turf field still there? Can they throw some portable bleachers up and make it their new on campus football field?

Not if the want to be D1. There's minimum seating requirements I believe for all D1 stadiums.

Where are they getting the money for all of this ? If they want to get more students enrolled, why don't they look into a two year technical program to get job skills to the next generation. We desperately need more tradesmen. The school could partner with local unions or businesses. I wish the school well, just wondering about the whole process

Looking at the basketball season they just completed the largest home crowd they drew was 525 and the smallest was 101 so I don’t see anyway that even home games aren’t a $$ loser. The over under on this program existing has to be in the 5-6 year range.

If this is part of a proactive long-term strategy to turn things around at CSU, then I can buy that and even give them credit for it. Unfortunately, I don't think that's the case. I think it is much closer to a reactive grasping at straws and desperate times calling for desperate measures.

I would put the over under at zero

Looking at all the FCS stadiums in the country, they start around 2k and there are a lot between 2,000 and 7,000.

Yes, they would need to make their seating meet the "permanent" definition on their baseball field, but I don't think capacity would be an issue. Gately is way bigger than is necessary.

I say, play on the baseball field for now. Then use Gately or SeatGeek if the FCS playoffs are ever achieved (I know that is a pipedream at this point). As far as I can tell, the facilities requirements at FCS only kick in for playoff hosting and they are fairly nebulous at that.

Has there ever been a football game played at SeatGeek? NIU was going to play BYU there, but the game was moved to NIU.

Looks like John Carroll and St. Norbert played there in 2013 in a D3 game.

If I am not mistaken, there was one year or several years where the Preseason Prep Bowl was moved from Soldier Field to SeatGeek (or Toyota).

A google search also tells me Fenwick played BR there in November 2010 for the Catholic championship for the right to play in the Prep Bowl.

It's always a good day when we can get a Blue Streak mention on the Edgy board!
