As first reported weeks ago on the EDGY Nation side.....Chicago State is moving forward with football and has launched a search for a new head coach.

Have some names as good candidates for the Cougars? Post them here.

Whoever they get, they can't make them any worse than their basketball program.

Pat Fitzgerald. Got to start over again sooner or later, too young to be retired and helping a high school. With Money not being a factor in his life what does he have to lose? It's a challenge. Nothing but a couple occasional wins would be expected of him, He can recruit a good staff too. I know it won't happen but stranger things have.

Probably get a young guy who is currently a coordinator at a current Illinois state school.

I don’t think this is a very attachable job and is a massive battle for success.

Why? That’s my question. I wish them luck though.
My guess is it's a shot to try to generate any sort of buzz and to try to broaden the overall appeal of the school and athletic program. Enrollment is way down and football is a sport that can and will bring in and attract a wider base of students.....now do I think it will work? Need to see it before I believe it....also no one seems to talk about Roosevelt making a move up to D2 which in some ways is significant as well......and I've been hearing about Lewis also adding football for what 30 years now.....but I guess time will tell.

Seems like a hail mary for enrollment increase but again I wish them luck.
That is very interesting about Roosevelt moving up to D2.

Lewis is in a prime location to add football. The talent base within 20 miles is incredible. I can see a host of coaches who would want this opportunity. Look what Gordie did at St. Francis.
For CSU, it’s the intimate Hail Mary. They will need Mary’s prayers.

Roosevelt went 1-9 in there first year of D2 but outside of 1 or 2 games it looks like they competed well. They made the jump up from NAIA too. I know the higher the class they more attractive it seems to recruited players but I'd rather go 7-3 in NAIA then 1-9 in D2.

Agree

I saw Roosevelt play in Detroit, and they are really small in comparison to one of the lesser teams in the conference. That being said, I expect them to get good fast. They’re really aren’t any D2 options in the area and the GLIAC is arguably the best conference in D2.

GLVC may be a better fit

Probably is, but the GLIAC wanted that Chicago market. They will likely have to replace grand Valley within the next 3 to 5 years too

Interesting call. That would be a coup for CSU and would help to get their program off to a running start.

Hard for a D2 program to make a splash in the Chicago market with NU, ND, and U of I well ensconced, no matter how good that program becomes.

Going to a CSU game played at either Gately or Eckersall could give pause to some folks. Unless, of course, one is hardened as a result of being part of the Mt. Carmel faithful.

They wouldn’t be recruiting the same kids. The Michigan D2 schools don’t seem to have that problem and there is way more competition from Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, and a handful of FCS schools for recruiting

There is very little fan interest in D2 football, unless it’s GV. however, having a team located in Chicago is going to add to the recruiting interest conference wide.

I think he was let go at a time when the nation was being extremely sensitive to all allegations. I'm not saying he was 100% innocent in the allegations but I don't think he should be done.

The judge consolidated the players' case with Fitzgerald's, since both are suing the school. A trial is slated for later this year. Northwestern loses either way.

Think CSU has bigger things to worry about, like not losing their accreditation! They couldn't even handle a baseball program...with a brand new on campus field

Fitz will be coaching at a big time college again eventually. My guess is Iowa.
My guess is all the legal action needs to settle. But like you I cannot imagine his coaching itch has been scratched fully.
