Team: Wheaton North Falcons

Biggest Question?

Wheaton North and head coach Joe Wardynski has been treading in the 4-5 record pool on and off over the past several seasons, yet North had a major breakout this past spring. The Falcons posted a 5-1 record and captured a share of the Dukane conference after beating Batavia in week 6 at NIU Husky Stadium. The Falcons are also being considered by many as the conference front runner this summer with several key starters from the spring roster back this fall.

The Biggest Question? Can the Falcons win the DuKane Conference and make a deep post-season run?

It's a very difficult question on both fronts, yet if anyone has a slight leg up to start the season it's Wheaton North.

TheFalcons offense welcomes back senior QB Marc Forcucci who had a very impressive spring season. Forcucci has also increased his recruiting stock this spring and summer and has looks and offers from various FCS level schools. The remaining skill position group is also experienced and keep an eye out on senior RB Brayton Maske, senior WR Seth Kortenhoeven plus senior TE Casey Morrison plus an offensive line that welcomes back 3 returning starters in senior OT Greg Fortinopoulos, senior Adrian Hible plus junior Nathaniel Stevens.

The Wheaton North defense also brings back 4 returning starters and keep an eye on juniorILB Ross Dansdill, junior DB Kaiden Libby plus senior LB Rex Kroger and senior DB Jackson Moore. The Falcons will also look towards a strong underclassmen group to fill omn at a few key positions most importantly reloading defensive line that was a strength in the spring season.

Besides the Falcons returning talent, the Dukane conference top contending schools also graduated a ton of talent from the spring season. St. Charles North will need to replace 15 graduated starters. Batavia? The Bulldogs also have quite a bit to replace this summer while Wheaton South and first year head coach Sean Norris will also have a strong core of offensive starters back but will need to replace 9 starters on defense this summer.

But the question at hand is....can the Falcons win the Dukane and also make a deep run in say Class 7A? Sure. The Dukane will again be a 3-4 team horserace and for now I would also give WN a slight advantage in the conference. Class 7A? 7A will most likely again be a pretty wide open race and Wheaton North will be as strong as anyone in the 7A field this fall.
