Montini 35, St. Viator 14 FINAL

Not quite as sharp as last week IMO, but the Broncos play well again and cruise to a win.

Close game in the first half until Montini kicked a late FG to make it 10-0. Had a takeaway and a TD in the final 30 seconds of 2Q to make it 17-0. Then returned the opening kick of the 2nd half inside the 10. 24-0 soon thereafter.

Montini is now 5-2 with Ignatius and Laurence left to play.

Maine East 30, Niles North 7 (Final)

Maine East defeated Niles North 30 to 7 Thursday night. That was Maine East's first conference win in 12 years. They last won a conference game in 2012 when they beat Maine West.

The victory Thursday night was also their third overall win of the season, which they also last did in 2012.

With Highland Park on the schedule for next week, it is possible they might win a second conference game and fourth overall game this year.

It has been a wonderful season for the Blue Demons.

Feeto's Friday Upset Special....

Week 7 already, and I've got to admit I'm having a tough year picking Upsets. Hopefully I can turn the tide. This week we'll visit a CCL Crossover game out in the Western Suburbs. This week's pick is..... The unranked Redwings of Benet Academy over the very hot, top 25 ranked Friars of Fenwick. The Friars are coming off a nice win over a good St. Laurence team. They are having a great year at 4-1, and have beaten a couple of quality opponents in Montini and Larry. Benet is a good team, and I watched them play well vs a healthy MC for the 1st half. If they can play some pass defense, they can beat anyone. I'll take the Redwings at home tonight. Final score..... Benet 24 - Fenwick 21. That's this week's upset. What are your thoughts and who is your upset?

Brother Rice Grad, Jack Lausch, Leads Northwestern to Victory vs Maryland

Way to go NU!!!!

Great game management by Lausch, with zero turnovers.

WB6 Week 7 preview

Sterling (4-2) @ Quincy (6-0): Last year Quincy won 35-33. The two teams still undefeated in conference play will sort that out this Friday. Quincy has been on a tear this season, putting up points in bunches and has yet to truly be challenged. QB Braydn Little has been stellar as he seeks to move up the IHSA record boards, but has been prone to turn the ball over when pressured. Sterling has won 4 straight with tough defense and getting just enough out of the offense. If Sterling wants a chance in this one, the offense has to figure out how to stay on the field and get the ball into the endzone. Sterling has never lost in Quincy, but that might be about to change.

Prediction: Quincy by 2 touchdowns.

United Township (3-3) @ Moline (4-2): Last year United Township won 42-28. Two teams that are still in the hunt for post season bids. Moline has looked balanced and tough in it’s four wins combining good defense with a hard running game. UT has lost two heart breaker close games and has looked good on defense, but the offense has only gone as far as the running game has taken it. If UT can find a way to break some big plays early, they stand a good chance at controlling the game. If one should be a good one as both teams need this win.

Prediction: Moline by a touchdown.

Thornridge (2-4) @ Geneseo (3-3): This is a “get it right” game for the Leafs who have been 1-3 in their past 4 games. The defense has played well, but their veer option offense has been held in check. This game will be a chance for Geneseo to get a much needed win against a struggling Thornridge team who is coming off a 67-0 beat down by Crete-Monee. Look for Geneseo to grind down the visiting Falcons and pull away after the half.

Prediction: Geneseo by 3 touchdowns.

Galesburg (1-5) @ Rock Island (0-6): Last year Galesburg won 24-7. Two teams who’s season has not gone the way either of them wanted. Rock Island hasn’t looked truly competitive since it’s week 2 loss to Dunlap. Galesburg has shown flashes at times of having a competitive football team, specially with Jamar Range at running back. I think Galesburg has the edge here, but if Rocky can put a full game together, they can get their first win of the year.

Prediction: Galesburg by 2 touchdowns.

For all of you crybabies

Ty to all who have helped with the massive flooding near me in East Tennessee!!!! There is a school who lost their football field, field house & a bunch of other things. They have had football games cancelled. So in order to get all their games in & try to make the playoffs 11th,15th,18th,21st & 25th they have games & here many of you cry about the old sat, wed, sat games lol.

SFA Florida is a Farce!

They show 6-1 on MaxPreps. They played on 8/16, 8/23, 8/30 and show 9/5 as a win over Varsity Opponent 1-0. They played again on 9/13 - so they took the 9/5 week off to avoid a beating.

So I looked at their other opponents:

Ambassadors Christian Academy 0-7

Hudson 2-5

American Heritage 6-1, who plays little academies and charter schools.

Ridge Community 4-2

Ambassadors Christian Academy 0-7 (second time they played)

Avon Park 1-5

What a shame they pulled that BS stunt. Did neither ESL or LWE do ANY research? I am sure I will be blocked because of this. I think we should all pile on this fool.

If the PLAYOFFS started today.... (Week 7)

Every Monday(-ish), I bracket the 256 playoff teams using the IHSA Playoff Outlook. This is NOT a prediction. These are NOT my opinions. It is simply the most logical way the playoffs would be bracketed, using the IHSA's specific system, if today's standings were the final standings.

Each week I usually have to add/subtract teams to get a true 256. The Outlook doesn't adjust for a conference champion/representative falling below the cutoff. It also rewards forfeit victories before the week that match-up would've been played. I take care of that before proceeding.

The cutoff on the Playoff Outlook is 3-3 with 27 playoff points. 18 teams have that record. 12 of those teams are in the playoffs, and 6 are out. The next tie-breaker used was wins by defeated opponents. Here is the sliver of difference between these teams:
-- Teams 257 thru 262 -- Morrison (1A), Niantic-Sangamon Valley (2A), Staunton (3A), Litchfield (3A), Rockford East (6A), Guilford (7A)

My adjustments....

Check the forfeits first. None that I noticed.

Next, let's check to see if every conference has at least one team representing it in the playoff field. Praise Jesus, THEY ALL DO!

NO ADJUSTMENTS!

Maybe I'll edit some notes in here on Monday
