What team do you root AGAINST? Why?

Belleville West (they always started sh!t for ESL)
West sucks! Althoff and West were only 1.5 miles seperated down Main Street. East, West and Althoff all shared Towship Stadium, located on West's campus. They would set their schedules and we played mostly Saturday games and we were in the carppiest lockerroom. We never showered there - pack your stuff and get back to sanitary at Althoff.

It was a stated goal each year for Althoff to shutout West. They did not score varsity points against us while I was in high school.

I still remember their RB, Kevin Rumph (RIP), who was talking some craziness about getting 100 yards on us, ending the game on the sideline with 0 yards on 10 carries.

What HS team do you root for

Mt Carmel has won 15 state championships. Of these, two were at the highest level at that time; twelve were one level down; and one was two levels down. We've lost five state championship games: two at the highest level at that time, and three at one level down. We lost in the semis in 1987 to East St Louis in the highest level. In the seven years from 2006 to 2012, we competed in 8A playoffs.
But the lower level championships don't count, remember?

ICE Week 5

For the ICE experts, I have a question...over the summer I went to a summer basketball tournament in Braidwood and I was blow away by the facilities On another thread there was a discussion about the importance of facilities and success, with all of the facilities that Reed-Custer has, how are they not more competitive in football?
I’m surprised that they fell so fast. When they had those really good teams a couple years ago, not only did they have good skill kids, they were outstanding up front.
They weren’t bad last year, but they dropped a couple really close ones and kinda gave up at the end, losing to Lisle.
I’ve said it before, but I felt fairly confident that the success of those ‘21 and ‘22 teams would have launched a new era over there, but clearly that isn’t the case.

What HS team do you root for

Besides the obvious, I have a soft spot for Evegreen Park, where I was a substitute teacher while home on leave; and Elk Grove, whose games I'd attend on Friday nights while having their hot dogs for dinner back in my single days. I always pull for St Rita whwn they're playing someone else.

You knlw what might be a great thread: teams you can't stand. (It's likely I might have caused some folks to not like you-know-who.)

Glenbard West question

I’m most familiar with bgyfl. Park ridge falcons are bgyfl but they aren’t dominant. From what I understand the other Park Ridge team that was also named the Falcons but now is something else, is likely taking a lot of the top bgyfl park ridge program’s talent. Weird story there.

I would say the top bgyfl programs: Palatine, Downers, Wheaton. Tri-city usually has a TON of kids at each level but not the most dominant. Elmhurst Eagles are down. I think they lose kids to Bears each year. Bears has a decent amount of Elmhurst kids. It’s a feeder team for IC. Arlington Cowboys is not good, they’ve gotten decimated by the Arlington Dawgs, feeder for Hersey in Pop Warner. Glen Ellyn has some talent but you don’t see them at the highest level very often. They tend to be in d2(between lowest and highest levels of bgyfl).

Your old school bgyfl programs like Bartlett, Carol Stream, Lombard Falcons and Bloomingdale tend to dominate the D2 level. The talent isn’t great. Rarely do they get bumped up to the gold d1 (highest) level. When I was a kid Bloomingdale was unreal. Now? Not so much. Still some talented kids but not enough to dominate.

Sad to see the Hanover Park Hurricanes, a once dominant bgyfl program is no longer in bgyfl. Man when I was a kid they were an awesome program. As others have said demographic changes have shifted that area.

Another once proud program was Bensenville Bandits. They used to be great in the 80s and 90s. Went to KC a few times in pop warner. Bensenville was a blue collar town. Now it has also shifted with less kids coming out and when a kid is really good they end up at IC. Bandits are gone and been replaced by Bensenville Raiders. They were asked to leave by bgyfl after not winning more than a game or two in the entire organization.

Now that I think about it, all of those programs that are down tend to follow the trend where their high schools are these days.

Carol Stream down- GBN down
Bloomingdale down- lake park down
Hanover park gone- lake park down
Bartlett down- Bartlett HS down

Palatine, Wheaton and Downers all very good if you look at the standings of the top teams in each division. Biggest issue is that they all feed into different high schools so the talent doesn’t always get to the same high schools.

Maybe the difference between those programs is they feed into multiple hs and will just have more kids

Wheaton rams - wws, wn, west Chicago
Downers - dgn, dgs
Palatine - palatine, fremd
Tri city- scn, sce, Batavia and Geneva
Last I heard carol stream was having trouble fielding teams.

I know oak park has a good amount of kids but they lose a lot to Fenwick

ALTHOFF v TOLO 53-52- GAME Althoff

Here is an acticle and some points from it:
Unity head football coach Scott Hamilton said Althoff Catholic (4-0) was the best team he has coached against in his career.

Unity quarterback Dane Eisenmenger finished with a career and program best of 543 yards. Eisenmenger completed 27 of his 42 passes against the Crusaders. Receiver Tre Hoggard amassed a program-best 266 receiving yards, breaking a 34-year-old record.

Unity's offense also reset the mark for the most yards in a game from 639 yards to 666 yards, of which 543 were produced by their stable of seven sticky-fingered receivers.

To date, Friday night's game was the highest-scoring game ever played at Hicks Field.

Althoff was led in scoring by 5-foot-11, 188-pound Oregon commit Dierre Hill Jr. Hill ran for 255 yards and caught four passes for 48 yards. The senior scored five touchdowns, the last on a nine-yard pass to set up the Crusaders' game-winning two-point conversion with seven seconds left in the non-conference contest.

Hamilton told the team after the game that, having coached over 400 games, there has only been a handful in which he thought every player on the field would have to play at their absolute best to even have a chance of winning.

"I give a lot of credit to our kids. I just don't have enough great things to say about our kids, our coaches, our plan, and how the kids executed. We just wanted to keep throwing punches at them and see what we could get."

What HS team do you root for

Marist scored late in 4th. Ensuing kick Naperville did not field kick properly and it bounced past the return man where Marist recovered right around the 1 or 2 but rolled into the end zone where it was called a touchback. Otherwise Marist would have been inside the 2 going in for potential lead. NC came down and scored game winner on this drive. Great game none the less.
Thanks. I don't remember that (but my memory is crap). I can totally understand how that would be controversial.
