Changes need to be made!!

It actually is ended... the private schools are not dominating like they used to, now that things are more equal they are winning a % of the state titles that the numbers say they should.. the advantage has been taken away and you guys aren't happy..

Luckily, the powers to be in Bloomington are neutral and able to make quality decisions.
Just to be clear, the original point of this thread was sarcasm! I have never once complained about the SF or the multiplyer in regards to JCA.

HHS,

You're citing a one year snapshot, No conclusion can be drawn. We are complaining because the IHSA is discriminating against a selected class.

You are right, public schools are discriminated against, have to rely on what the bus drops off, not allowed to recruit.

Why do say public schools do not recruit? When my son was playing football in Catholic grade school, the public high school coach often talked to players at practice and after games. He knew many of the players where considering Catholic high schools (we live in an area which regularly send boys to 5 different Catholic schools) so he had to convince them that the public school was just as good academically and athletically as the Catholic schools.

I imagine there plenty of calls and meetings in Park Ridge as the coaches try to get the kids to go to Maine South rather than Loyola or Notre Dame.

They do not want to recruit, but when the private schools do then they are forced to react

Again with the socialist ideals. We live in a competitive world. Sometimes even public school coaches have to work for their pay like the privates.

Not Socialism at all, simply against the IHSA rules, they would prefer to follow them but at time need to get down and crawl with the snakes.

jwarigaku - stop trying to be sensible with that guy. Anyone who thinks the IHSA is NEUTRAL and makes QUALITY decisions is beyond hope. I also question how much of his swill he himself actually believes!

Didn't we just see the best set of title games the IHSA has seen in 30 years??? Its funny, the public guys think the IHSA is doing swell

HHS,

There is nothing in the IHSA rule book about going to Youth games, its above board and perfectly legal. Going to practices I believe is a different story unless the rules have changed. In any event if you have permission from the parents for contact you are again operating within the bylaws. Sometimes you need to put forth effort to get your desired outcome. It's not a socialist society where "ideally" everything gets split up equally.

Check your rule book, not that cut and dry... and what you say is going on, that's not all that's going on

Now he speaks for all "the public guys." What a vast network. This guy's really connected.

Correct, I am super connected... to this new thing called the internet, reading other boards and the public school fans love the SF and how well its working..

Hey BBCHS77 I have to ask, what do you do for a living?

Actually its a little bit more involved than that. Here are some examples from the By-laws that were given by the IHSA:

123) Q. May a coach initiate contact with a prospective student-athlete?
A. No. (By-law 3.073)

124) Q. May school administrators initiate contact with a prospective student-athlete? A. Yes, provided the contact is made only with the understanding that the young person is a prospective student, not a prospective athlete. (By-law 3.073)

125) Q. May a coach or school official who is approached by a parent distribute contact information for the school? A. Yes. (By-law 3.073)

So in essence you are correct but the parent has to initiate contact.

Keep reading through the entire bylaw, I think about midway through you will get to the question about the legality for a coach, public or private, to attend youth games and it is legal, you will also note I ts not legal to go to practice somewhere in that Q&A. I know the Public school coaches do go to practice and further also talk to the 8th graders before they move onto the next level while in school during the day. Please go enjoy your state title it was well earned.

Never said that it’s wasn’t legal to go to games. If that was the case all the coaches that attend Burros, Wildcats, and Falcons games down here would be busted. (Usually about six or seven schools represented)

I was talking about your statement about coaches talking to kids with parent permission. Incomplete because the parent has to initiate the contact not the coach.

So does the public high school coach have tacit approval to talk to the kids during the school day?

And you're splitting hairs, most parents that see those coaches at the games are very happy to introduce themselves and start the conversation about Their kids.

It shall also be a violation of this rule to induce or attempt to induce or encourage any prospective student to attend any member school for the purpose of participating in athletics even when special remuneration or inducement is not given.

Schools are not prohibited from conducting academic recruitment programs, programs which may include information concerning the school’s extracurricular offerings. However, such recruitment programs must be designed to provide an overview of the academic and extracurricular programs offered by a school and are not to be used as a subterfuge for recruiting students for athletic purposes. Such general recruitment programs permissible under this rule shall be carried out under the following guidelines

#### I can just see it now... Johnny walks off the youth field after scoring 4 TDs... Montini coach says "Hey, we at Montini have a great English department, want to go there?"

I certainly agree that every time the system gets tinkered with it gets worse. So let’s be careful what we wish for because we just might get it.

In a different sport, NASCAR keeps changing the rules every other year and is just a train wreck now. losing fans every year because their product has become pathetic. I used to watch two or three NASCAR events every week. Now I barely watch because they keep tweaking and screwing it up more and more.
Can we get a ruling? Is this the first NASCAR reference ever on Edgytim?

Jwarigaku you are trying to draw me into a fight and I’m not biting.

You know what I am talking about and rules are rules.

Yes rules are rules but you're not willing to admit that for every bad private apple you have three or four publics doing the same or worse. My kid got read the riot act when he told the public school coach he was going to Naz and he wouldn't let it go.

Pick on another school instead of Montini. You really do like to stir the pot don't you?
Gene K, what I don't understand is why a bunch of grown men continue to beat this dead horse over and over and over and over again. You'd think they would have something better do. It's pretty obvious, they don't.

You have talked about one instance and extrapolated that out to three or four

I’ll say what private school supporters have said for years.

Prove your accusation.

For the people who say kids aren't paid more if they are good at sports financial aid wise, I have to disagree. While it might not happen at all schools, it definitely does happen. The most recent I can think of is a pair of twins couldn't go to a private school due to the financial burden. Financial aid was offered, but still not enough. So the boys went to their public school football practice for a couple days before...look at that! More money was found! I'm pretty sure their test scores didn't jump up over night, and their financial situation had not changed either.

I'm the guy that believes in open boarders for all, so I think a family should be able to chose and move where ever when ever they want. I just get irritated when everyone seems to want to point solely at Privates as not following the rules. If you must know, in the Naperville area we would have coaches from surrounding public schools within a radius of about 20 miles because we were travel teams. I won't individually out coaches because I believe they were trying to put the kids interest first.

You assume that additional financial aid was found because they were athletes. Of course, there is no way you could ever prove that. But, hey, it makes a great narrative to embellish/extrapolate upon if you are already inclined to believe that private schools are shady.

In the private school world, it is not uncommon for families to be offered financial aid and to decline it and enroll their kids in either a different private school or in the public school. This frees up financial aid funds that the school can use elsewhere. It is also not uncommon for parents to receive a financial aid award and then ask for more. In some of those cases, the school takes another look and is able to provide additional help (especially if there are other funds budgeted for financial aid that are not going to be used).

So this money freed up in two days? That's some great turnover.

So, within two days, the school somehow heard through the grapevine about the kid attending the public school practice and decided to cough up more dough? That's some assumption.
