Week 9 is upon us. 6 West Suburban Conference Schools have already clinched playoff births - Downers South as the Gold Representative, Addison Trail (6-2), Willowbrook (6-2), York (7-1), Glenbard West (6-2) and Downers North (6-2). Realistically, there is only 1 more team who will likely be playing a 10th game - Lyons (5-3). With 5 wins, they would probably be in, but will improve their seed with a 6th win this week versus Proviso East. Hinsdale South has a very outside chance, as they currently sit at 3-5 and 39 playoff points. They are in position to move to 4-5, and could earn as many as 6 more points, but I don't think that will be enough.

The game of the week in Week 9 is the battle for the Ole Oaken Bucket between Hinsdale Central and Downers North. This hasn't been quite the season the Red Devils needed with their young team, but to close out on a win would be somewhat fulfilling. At 3-5, they only have 36 playoff points. The loss to 3-5 Bolingbrook in week 2 is looking worse and worse, as they take on Lincoln Way East this week, and will likely not make the playoffs.

In our game, it is close at the top of the standing. Realistically, @Fishwater41 will have to take a flyer and go against a game @brucealmighy picks in order to tie for the regular season championship. I only see one game that is even a remote possibility in, but won't try to influnence anyone's picks.

Good Luck everyone! Here's to praying for a healthy and safe week 9 for all players.

It is an unfortunate fate for Hinsdale South. They will likely finish ahead of Addison Trail in the final standings. They beat Addison Trail 24-0. Looking at the scores of other games against common opponents, it is easy to deduce they are at least 21 points better than Addison Trail. And yet, they will miss the playoffs while Addison Trail will comfortably qualify.

It is purely the result of scheduling. The current records of Addison Trail's three nonconference opponents are 1-7, 2-6 and 0-8; whereas the current records of Hinsdale South's three nonconference opponents are 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2. This resulted in three wins for Addison Trail and three losses for Hinsdale South.

Please note I treated the cross-over game as a nonconference game since the result is not included in the conference records. (And, of course, they each played a different team in the cross-over game.)

Unless they meet a Chicago Public League team in the first round, Addison Trail is likely to be one-and-done in the playoffs. Nevertheless, they deserve credit for a nice turn-around season.

It truly is unfortunate for Hinsdale South. With the way the WSC is set up for crossovers, AT will have Proviso West again next year. If their first two games remain the same, they could very well be 6-0 next year too. All while Hinsdale South gets DGN again. Perhaps HS may need to look at getting away from Wauconda and Riverside Brookfield.

Sorry for the delay - it's been a wild life over the last 4 days.

Week 9 went - almost - exactly as we all thought it would. Deep down, even the two incorrect picks (that's right, only 2 wrong picks - one for AT, and one for HC) on the board were looked at as long shot picks, trying to make a move in the standings.

Unfortunately, we had the lowest participation week of the entire season, with only 9 players. However, of those choosers, 7 went a perfect 7-0, and 2 went 6-1.

I'll put together a full season look at the numbers, and give out the regular season final standings in another post. I'll also continue through the playoffs for as long as a WSC team is playing. If not for anything but to stay engaged.

"Unless they meet a Chicago Public League team in the first round, Addison Trail is likely to be one-and-done in the playoffs."

Talk about living a charmed life. Addison Trail draws a Chicago Public League team (Lincoln Park) in the first round. The Blazers are probably about a 10 to 14 point favorite, which translates into a 75% to 80% chance of winning the game. This is just what they needed to stay alive.

However, the round of 16 should be the end of the line. Even though there are many more difficult assignments in that round then Glenbard East, Glenbard East should beat Addison Trail fairly easily.

AT will talk about this team for years, I'm sure.

Honestly, if this seasons success helps revitalize the program, I'm all for it.
