Was wondering why NAZ is still in 5A after winning the championship in consecutive years. Can someone explain.
Thx.

Jenny explained perfectly. It’s the same reason MC isn’t in 8a. Next year you get rid of them….IF they can get past Franny

I mean the SF is dumb in any iteration - don't get me wrong - but it's also super dumb that it's measured in fixed calendar year periods instead of rolling. What's the justification?

Don’t try and apply logic to IHSA rules pertaining to Catholic schools.

I don’t know this, but it’s also the opposite two years of the cycle for the CCL/ESCC divisions. So this season is season one of the CCL/ESSS two year cycle for the blue, green, orange…..

Really is the height of stupidity.

In theory Naz can lose to SF this week and have back to back titles and not get success factored.

JC could beat Morris and then lose to SF and then, by virtue of finishing runner up twice in a row within that arbitrary two year window, they would be success factored up without a single state title.

So Naz could go back to back and face no success factor and JC could win zero titles and wind up in 6A the next two years.

Really, really weird application of a really weird rule.

The part that gets me is Naz and JCA could go to title and get bumped up to 6a for 2 years but no matter what happens in the next 2 year period they can’t stay in 6a. Gotta love the IHSA.

I have been saying this for a while. The IHSA has to make some common sense adjustments to these rules. But they probably won't.

AND what about playing the Post Season chess match? I could see Naz and/or JCA petitioning up to 7A if this happens.

So from what I take of this is that Rita plays same CCL Schedule as this past year? You are full of information, Jenny! Thanks.

However, my funniest possible scenario (for me) would be:
- both Naz and JCA get success'd up to 6A for 25/26 seasons
And
- ESL decides to NOT petition up to 6A and stays in 5A for the 25/26 season. :)

I am not familiar with the rules you are citing, but wouldn't ESL be in the same position JCA is in if they win Saturday...consecutive years in the championship game. Why would they not be forced to play up?

An even funnier scenario.....

Since Antioch petitioned up to 6A this year they are stuck in 6A next year. What are the chances the stars align next year by the football gods and Antioch draws Naz or JCA in round 1 for the 6a playoffs o_Oo_O

Haven't thought about this in the past but it really doesn't make sense for ESL to petition up. Each year 6A south brings no one to the table for them. If they were 5A they would at least traditionally get JCA, Morris and SHG. With a title game vs a great 5a north squad.

ESL is a lot more dangerous than any team(s) in 7A, especially with MC success factored up to 8A.

And hopefully you'll note that I said dangerous NOT better.
MC needs to win Saturday to be success factored up next season. While I hope that happens, I am a lot less confident than I was at this point last season.

I can see this team making a lot of noise in 8A.
You don’t think winning the 8A title is a much bigger challenge than 7A? There is LA, LWE, York, Marist, MS, NC, … it seems so much deeper than 7A. I agree MC would be highly competitive in 8A and a threat to win it at every year, but 8A is a different beast.

You are right, of course. The competition in 8A is outstanding. But MC has played three times in the 8A title game, winning once decisively, which is a respectable showing for a factored school. What I am considering, though, is that this year's Caravan is loaded with juniors and underclassmen who are not only starting but playing well. We'll lose Jack Elliott but gain Emmett Dowling, who, under Jordan Lynch, should develop into a facsimile of his brother. Blainey Dowling, you'll remember, helped MC beat Loyola in '22, one of the best games I have ever seen. Since Loyola took state that year, it is not outlandish to believe that, had MC played Loyola in the 8A finals, MC might have gone home with the trophy. That was an exceptionally good Carmel team, and next year's squad could be as good or better.
