St Francis Needs Game!

This is an interesting concept. However, the Gold and Silver already have 2 mandatory cross overs. I’d assume WSC leadership would go with 1 and 1 cross over per division, as opposed to a 2/1 crossover, which would make it a locked conference. However, for natural crossover rivals like DGN/DGS, HS/HC, PE/PW and York/Willowbrook, this would end up with many Gold teams never facing Silver teams.
It’s a very interesting concept. But how about…
If WSC absorbed metro public’s and added the DVC now you could realign along enrollment size and have 3 strong divisions. Merge the Proviso’s and poach Fenton. This gives three 8 team divisions and allows for one non-con.

Largest (gold?)

Morton 8000 kids
Merged Proviso 4400
LT 4100
NV 3475
Leyden 3400
OPRF 3400
York 2900
MV 2900

Middle (Silver?)

DGS 2800
NN 2700
HC 2700
NC 2600
WV 2550
GW 2400
DGN 2200
AT 2000

Smallest (Bronze?)

WB 1900
Dekalb 1800
RB 1700
HS 1400
Add Fenton 1400
Elmwood 1000
Ridgewood 900
Westmont 500

maybe poach Glenbard South (1200) and drop Westmont. Could be fun…

If this were adopted they would also need to implement a system of relegation and promotion each year. The last place team in the gold division would be relegated to the silver division for the following year. The first place team in the silver division would be promoted to the gold division for the following year. And then, of course, a similar process would take place between the silver and bronze divisions. This would provide more competitive balance as Morton, Proviso and Leyden would likely play most seasons in the silver division, while Glenbard West, Naperville Central and Hinsdale Central would play most seasons in the gold division.

Interesting thought, but for a conference view and not just a football view not sure it schools would like it.

It would be like Taft all over again for the big Golds...dominating the Big Shoulders 1 year only to get beat down by the Red Bird or Prairie State the next year.

After the crap shoot of a season thus far, SF ends with 4 good matchups upcoming.

VS 4-1 Aurora Christian Friday night. Hopefully it's a good one.

To finish it out.

What am I missing? I see three lopsided wins and a good matchup with IC.

I don't think Morton, Proviso and Leyden would be dominating the silver division any time soon. They would be competing with teams like Waubonsie Valley, Hinsdale South and DeKalb in the silver division. Perhaps, though, instead of losing 49-0 to the top teams in the gold division they would only lose 35-14 to the top teams in the silver division. The gold division would still likely be sending five of its eight teams to the playoffs every year. Having attended Maine East years ago, I can say that it is difficult building enthusiasm (and thus participation) in a program when the team goes 0-9 or 1-8 every year. High school is meant to be a learning experience, even in the sports programs. A lot more learning takes place in a competitive environment than in a noncompetitive environment. In a competitive environment actions have consequences. That is not nearly so true in a noncompetitive environment.
