Cyclones' toughest foe? It's SHG
Thirteen games into this season, Sacred Heart-Griffin has yet to find an opponent that has offered a challenge. The Cyclones get it over early, too. They have outscored opponents 283-28 in the first quarter and 542-62 in the first half. That's an average halftime score of 41.6-4.8.
The Cyclones had running clocks - a 40-point lead in the second half means the clock stops only for scores and timeouts in high school football - in each of their first 12 games, which of course can do no worse than tie a state record. Could it possibly happen again in Game 13?
Sure enough four plays later Anthony DiNello rumbled 3 yards for the touchdown, and Colin Boyd's conversion kick made it 49-7 and meant the second half would be played without stoppage.
"We're definitely conscious of it," Bowman said about the Cyclones' streak of running clocks. "We talk about it."
"We had shirts made this week for the playoff game (with) "Start the Clock" on the back. We always pride ourselves on scoring a lot of points and not letting a lot being scored on us. It's always exciting getting that and it makes the games go quicker."
