RIP Coach Grant Blaney

Him and Sam were legends back then - met in the playoffs. Blaney Adams Leese Lazier Samorian Scheonwetter - true legends back then. RIP coach
 
Here is my writeup for them before the Buffalo Grove/Glenbrook North playoff game in 2002.

And now, Glenbrook North High School would like to honor two legends in Illinois High School Football. Please help us welcome tonight’s honorary captains.

First, from Buffalo Grove, coach Grant Blaney
  • Coach Blaney won the 1986 6A state title with a 14-0 record
  • Was runner up in class 5A following the 1978 season
  • Coached the Bison to the 6A semi-finals in 1984 and 1985
  • Compiled a 111-54 record from 1974-1989 at Buffalo Grove
  • Has been honored as the Mid-Suburban Conference Coach of the year five times and once as the Illinois Coaches Association State Coach of the Year
  • Elected into the Illinois High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1990
  • Starred at center and linebacker for Iowa State University
  • Has been happily married to wife Barbara for 48 years
  • Please welcome Grant Blaney

And representing Glenbrook North, coach Harold “Sam” Samorian
  • Coach Samorian won the state’s first 5A title in 1974 with a 12-0 record
  • Compiled a 112-79-4 record from 1964-1985 at GBN
  • Elected into the Illinois High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1986
  • Was elected to the Illinois State University’s athletic hall of fame in 1990
  • Also elected to the Illinois High School Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1984
  • Currently serves as a trustee for Illinois High School Football Coaches Association
  • Please give a big GBN welcome to Coach Sam Samorian
