If any one school has benefitted the most from the satellite camp boom it very well could be North Central College. NCC and head coach Jeff Thorne and staff just ran these last two camps exceptionally well. From the organization to getting a ton of kids on campus plus getting the players at NCC involved, for me this was a major win-win for NCC on several levels.
This version actually drew more kids than I expected to be honest. With nearly 300 kids in attendance along with nearly 200 at Lake Park earlier in the day...I just wasn't sure how the attendance would be effected at either camp. Glad to see both camps drew well.
(note: always do my best to get around to see as many kids as I can but can and will miss as many or more than I see. Also note I'm focused a bit more on longer observations for 2018/2019 kids at this stage but always note of any 2017's that standout and I usually won't watch a ton of kids I've seen already this summer).
Now Who Stood Out?
Underclassmen (all 2018 unless noted)
QB Quincy Patterson Solorio- Quincy has already added a few early offers and just off of his on the hoof look it's pretty evident to see why. Patterson is a pure athlete and has terrific size, frame and God given physical tools. Patterson at this early stage still has a ton of work to do from the overall QB standpoint but again I see Patterson either developing into a big time QB or even an ATH type.
TE Zak Levi Highland Park - really good sized kid who also ran well and looked solid in drill and positional work. Didn't know this kid at all but is definitely worth more research on.
RB Justin Hall H-F- simply will be one of the top overall athletes in this state in 2018 class. Played DB last fall and will play RB this fall. Hall has speed, quickness, burst, great balance and vision and is just a hard working kid. Already drawing major D1 offers and interest.
OL Nolan Eike Batavia- no idea what's in the water in Batavia these days but Eike has great size (6-foot-5 plus) and length. Still needs to add weight and also needs to improve his overall pass pro technique but the overall raw tools are there.
DL Mark Thigpen Neuqua Valley- again a nice player here. Battles all comers in one on ones and showed some flashes.
OL Finn Marino Mather- another good sized kid (6-foot-5, 260 plus) here. Runs well and is pretty mobile for his size. Struggled at times in one on ones yet Finn also learned alot going against several elite level defensive linemen. A name to watch for sure here.
OL Verdis Brown III Mount Carmel0 Brown is already getting major offers and deservedly so. Big kid huge frame and is just a mauler. Brown looked very comfortable inside on the offensive line in one on ones and once he got comfortable in one on ones was as good as anyone here. Just off his raw size and tools along Brown III will be highly sought after.
DB Tyrik Henderson Glenbard North- already reviewed Ty at Lake Park...didn't disappoint here either.
WR Nicholas Calcagno Naperville North- really good sized kid who also runs well. Showed good hands in positional group work and will just get bigger and stronger.
DB Joshua Flowers Glenbard North- in case you haven't figured it out Glenbard North is loaded with talent and especially in the secondary. Flowers was able to hang with the top group of DB's at this camp. Shows very good overall speed and skills, can flip his hips well and also has good ball skills.
LB Ryan Selig Lakes- I had a chance to see the linebackers late in positional work and I like what I saw from Selig. Selig is technically sound, runs well and also has good size.
QB Drake Davis Bureau Valley- overall like Drake's game a lot. Can make all the throws has great arm strength and accuracy. Size will be an issue with bigger schools and recruiting but overall this is a terrific player.
DB Derrick lee Waubonsie Valley- much like Tyrik Henderson was also at Lake Park earlier in the day. Lee is also at the very top of the DB group here in Illinois. Lee will become a major level offer kid soon.
DT Noah Shannon Oswego- was simply one of if not the best underclassmen I saw at this camp. Shannon checked in around 6-foot-1 305 pounds and has all the tools to become a big time major level BCS defensive tackle. Shannon has the size, great strength and quickness for his size. Shannon is also well advanced in defensive line play and showed a variety of moves. Shannon also showed has great leverage and hands and was just eye opening. I would be stunned to not see Shannon add at least a handful of offers sooner rather than later. Was impressive as heck.
WR Myles Pettaway Montini- Class of 2019 kid has really good size, size and just was very fluid. Not bad for a 2019 kid. I felt Pettaway did well against older kids here in one on ones.
WR Jeremy Puckett Nazareth- another 2019 kid who passes the eyeball test. Didn't see him in one on ones but did like what I saw in positional work.
