The only CPL team to win a state championship in football, Phillips deserves a lot of respect for the success of its program. With an enrollment of 528 when they won the 4A championship in 2015, they petitioned to move up to 5A and won another title in 2017, the year they beat Loyola and established their credibility. Eager to test themselves in an even higher class, they petitioned to move up to 6A, where they made it to the quarter finals in 2018. This year, for scheduling reasons, the IHSA told them that they could move back down to 5A or move up to 7A. Much to their credit, Phillips opted to play in 7A, where they have earned a 9-1 record. Granted, they haven't slugged their way through the CCL Blue, but they did beat a decent Normal team to make it this far. The Caravan won't be looking past the Wildcats, no more than they took a victory over the Panthers for granted.

No way MC takes them lightly. How many former MC players are now on the Philips roster? I have no problem with them transferring, it's totally their right to leave. Just wondering what the actual # of rostered players for Philips started at MC.

If i kid transfers of his own accord than that's fine. But if the kid is recruited off of another teams roster I do have a problem with that. Getting a kid to transfer who may be sitting at another school waiting his turn or is not playing because of academic/discipline reasons is not hard. What teenager doesn't want instant gratification? But on another coaches part it's p*mpy.

That I know of only 5 total left for Phillips in the last few years and 2 were dismissed from MC, they didn’t transfer. 1 other was on his way to being dismissed. That I know of 2 are on the current roster, 1 would have been a starter, the other one would have been a back up. They haven’t had anyone leave for Phillips since Lynch took over. Not saying it was Coach Franks doing that they left, like I said 2 got dismissed from the school, but it seems to have definitely halted after losing those 5.

I think Phillips is definitely outmatched against MC unfortunately. I would love to see them pull off the upset but Normal did a number on some of their starters with quite a few going down with leg injuries. Going up against a top 3 in the state team is tough enough as is, not being at full strength is a recipe for disaster.

a decent Normal team......ummm no? Who cares how a kid ended up on a Phillips roster from MC? Players recruit players, teams success draws players. Kids left MC for more playing time after seeing the writing on the wall post junior year, just like kids have left Phillips for similar reasons. Yes transfers in hoops & football has gotten out of hand, but who can fault a family for moving to programs where they feel may give their child a better opportunity to shine. Mom and dad has say so to you know, coaches aren't going to schools signing transfer paperwork...oh the school a kid leaves signs off also otherwise ineligibility occurs.

MC wins by 20pts+ Phillips offense isn't creative enough for a Lenti led MC defense unless they been playing possum. Defense and special teams would have to help Phillips (not extra points; they go for two which could be a problem too)

Some Key Kids left MC Terrence Taylor was a absolute monster and then why did MC let
Billingsley get away he got a ride to Alabama.
I like Lynch but I’m

Phillips has proven to be a force in any class, but the path to the 7A trophy goes through MC. Okay..... cue the Naz fans, I'm about to take a beating lol

Good morning, I don’t know if you are a spokesperson for Sports, Alumni of the school or A Man that just loves football but either way if you think for a second MC is going to run all over Phillips defense thats Dead. You seem like a Film guy well go back and look at it they not giving up points when it comes to run. Now unless MC can get a pass Attack like that Naz I think it’s goin be a long game. Let that running QB put the rock in the air and let them Wildcats intercept the ball. I was at GBN game Saturday and that DL of MC was suspect in the first half #28 was
getting 3-5 yard a play and you know that’s facts. MC made adjustments 2nd half and was victorious but what happen still happen. I want to see a good game regardless. But really your commentary is Hilarious, these threads make my day at work go by fast.

I've been to four Phillips and three MC games this year, live updates from both....Lynch is a capable thrower, Big brother Lynch is a capable play caller, MC points will use misdirection/swing routes, and TE delays to get their points against that match 70 defense. Eventually the o-line will wear down the faster and smaller d-linie. I did say Phillips strong point is defense and that will be key to their victory, however MC offense is a bit more advanced than what Phillips have seen this year. Oh, Phillips punt and extra point game could be a factor

Well, I won’t say names, but again, some of these young men did not transfer, they were dismissed, MC let them go because of discipline, grades or both

SR had a couple leave. One was not going to see the varsity field till his senior year. Good player but got to start a year earlier. He left on his own but a couple of years latter said to his friends he was contacted. The second was sitting because of grades not because he was not smart enough just lack of effort. When a opposing coach combs thru social media looking for kids on other high school teams that’s underhanded.

I’m a St. Rita guy first and then a CCL guy second. This week I’m a CCL guy but pulling big time for MC.

so if a kid or opposing coach knows the situation why not have someone inquire. we say its about the kids alot, is bettering their athletic situation not included in that? Would the JB kid who left MC be an Alabama recruit had he stayed, how about the kid who came to PHillips and now at Pitt? These rosters of top city public/privates are big, from an offensive perspective its only one football. If one is 3rd or 4th string behind kids like Irving & Brown in the same grade how can you be seen by colleges with limited film?

I believe Simeon beat up on Phillips earlier this year. After watching film of PR/Simeon, MC will have a running clock on Phillips. CPS, strike or no strike, is not having one of it's better years.

I like what Phillips has done as a program, but moving up to 7A after only barley making 6A quarters the year prior seems...well, silly.

they Did not beat on them.....it was 14-6 turnover fest in a driving rainstorm for both. defense for both teams showed up, offenses were bad

Billingsley was sold on the fact that he would be a feature in their offense. Obviously, everything worked out for him. Again, why did you let 4 star recruit Dominic Bass leave? Get my point, kids and their families make the decisions that are best. Wish them well, and move on...

From a football perspective that's strange for DB, top national recruit as a freshman, leaves Phillip for MP , isnt he at
Prep school on east coast now?

If the kid makes the decision fine. But if the coach makes first contact that's pimpy. CCL schools have to fill seats. Once he's in school its hands off. Some Suburban coaches are famous for poaching. Phillip's coaches took that to a new low by showing up at the end of practices. Irving was asked to leave St. Rita before classes started, moved on to Morgan Pk., then to Hillcrest. He may have left on his own later when KB started in front of him.

Another fun fact... I talked to Nate Turner at the Rice game, and his son is currently on Phillips roster.

Should be fun Saturday, as always! It’s fun to see posters hibernate after being proven wrong. Only to reappear during August claiming they can’t be beat. Albeit, no trophies hoisted during the previous year to support such nonsense....

I was at the Simeon game with some buddies, and had a guy tell me Phillips beat Detroit Cass, suggesting this as a quality win. Looked them up and their record was 6-5 at the time.

Not sure, but to respect his privacy let’s not speculate. All I know is he’s no longer there....

I heard the road to the 7A title goes through WSS or Batavia..

Rice-SR-Marist and MC recruit Junior High Schools - Phillips recruits the CCL Blue and Green

Catholic school isn’t cheap, Phillips doing parents a favor snatching kids away from them programs. If they can’t afford the education or The environment doesn’t feel quite right There is a place for you on Pershing Rd.

Indiana and Wisconsin is the pipeline for the Catholic League I was a the Casino and saw that MC van pull up next to me I said Damn bruh where you headed he told me

I know this thread would lead into the transfer battle and apparently now a battle of Catholic vs Public education, can you give us some info on Phillips Football team? I know they are athletic, but it seems like they don’t have the the big name guy that they have had in years past.

Ronald Pledger Cornerback/receiver is prolly the best player 6’3-6’4 he’s pretty fast has good hands. Besides him No real standouts like last year. Majority of the team is Juniors including QB Antonio Brown

I’ve been telling people you can’t run on that Defense of Phillips they make you pay.

You really sound like a fool! Phillips win!

Phillips don’t need big names they are making names for themselves

Yeah, "Phillips win!", and I sound like the fool?

I'm sure you thought the same thing last year when you traveled up to Cary. Good news is this is a shorter drive home.

Phillips gonna try 8A after.

Fox Valley is pretty tough. Cary did win 6A so it ain’t a bad L. History is going to repeat its self for MC they haven’t had a championship since 2013, And even back in those days the Championship were mostly 5A so don’t hype MC up as if they been running 7A or 8A!
