The only CPL team to win a state championship in football, Phillips deserves a lot of respect for the success of its program. With an enrollment of 528 when they won the 4A championship in 2015, they petitioned to move up to 5A and won another title in 2017, the year they beat Loyola and established their credibility. Eager to test themselves in an even higher class, they petitioned to move up to 6A, where they made it to the quarter finals in 2018. This year, for scheduling reasons, the IHSA told them that they could move back down to 5A or move up to 7A. Much to their credit, Phillips opted to play in 7A, where they have earned a 9-1 record. Granted, they haven't slugged their way through the CCL Blue, but they did beat a decent Normal team to make it this far. The Caravan won't be looking past the Wildcats, no more than they took a victory over the Panthers for granted.
